The present work tries to briefly analyze the concept of tragic “humus” that Ortega was able to transmit – consciously or not – to his disciples, during the well-known School of Madrid. For this, and secondly, we maintain that this Orteguian“humus” can be revealed from the ideas of Hayden White. Thirdly, we propose how these Orteguian ideas were deployed in María Zambrano and José Gaos, and we maintain that they did so from their conceptions of poetic reason and a certain gigantomachy ofhistory – respectively –, which not only faithfully reflected those ideas but also took a step beyond the Orteguian proposal. Finally, we will try to show what are the Zambranian and Gaosian characteristics of this tragic conception of philosophy, which will go far beyond traditionalist European rationalism.

Resumen
In this article we will present some specific questions about the bookThe Principles of Science by Eduardo Nicol, and how that work had a notable impact on Latin American thought in the sixties. Our approach is based on the influence of Eduardo Nicol in Paulo Freire, something that happened in the years when Nicol travelled around Latin America explaining his works in several courses. We can find examplesof these courses in the University of the Habana in 1955 and in his visit to Colombia in the beginning of 1960. In that moment his publications, stimulated by Fondo de Cultura Económica, led him to be studied in different faculties in an interdisciplinaryway. We don’t have the ambition to expose all these ramifications of Eduardo Nicol’s theories, but we wil focus on a specific case, the presence of his book The Principles of Science in Extenção ou Comunicação? by the thinker Paulo Freire.

Resumen
This paper aims to analyze the features of Spanish exile’s obsession withits painful past, from the end of the Civil War to democracy. By delving further into the notion of “exilic temporality”, the contemporary debate regarding the role played by Spanish exile’s past on democracy will be addressed. The arguments developed in this debate will stemmed from a groundbreaking philosophical inquiry regarding the nature of melancholy. From this perspective, the recovery of a painful past by the exiles that returned to Spain will not be considered as an instance of a pathological and selfindulged memory. On the contrary, keeping a melancholic relation towards this past will be framed as a necessary step from which to cast a new light on Spanish transition’s deficits, with regards to the memory of victims who belonged to the vanquished side.

Resumen
The “Homo faber” trilogy written by Richard Sennett between 2008and 2018 should be understood as the paradigm of a non-revolutionary liberal neo-Luddism, closer to the epistemological horizon of pre-Raphaelites like William Morristhan to the anarcho-primitivism of the most radical Neo-Luddites like Zerzan orKaczynski. Deeply influenced by the architectural ideology centered on craftsmanshipskill and (the design of ) the way as a means of ethical-political construction of thecity, Sennett’s proposal is completely obsolete and unable to meet the technologicalchallenge we are facing. This article explains the points of contact of his work with amythical vision of the pre-industrial society typical of the Neo-Luddites with a doubleaim: to show the insufficiency and partiality of his proposal regarding the current socialimplications of the technique, as well as to prove its deeply ideological and Westerncentriccharacter.

Resumen
This article offers an approach to the fundamental lines of the phenomenology of the love consciousness by Joaquín Xirau. The objective is to show how loving can become the ontological, axiological and epistemological foundation of reality and, therefore, in the key of the subject-object arch of consciousness. If the unfolding of Modernity has led the existence of man to nihilism, the loving conscience is postulatedas a reasonable path to salvation. When the reality of the world is restored in its doubledimension, ontological and axiological, an experience of its plenary and organic sensecan be recovered.
