The Civil War was a decisive experience in the evolution of María Zambrano’s thought. Understood and lived as a tragedy whose subject is the Spanish people, a personification of the most elemental of the human condition in its struggle against fascism, this experience abolished any idealistic reason. In its place, and in intimate dialogue with the poetry of Antonio Machado, Zambrano will elaborate a loving reason that takes up her reflection before the war and projects it towards a poetic reason that, already in exile and faced with the impossibility of a redemption from the tragedy, will have to be oriented towards a radical interiority.

This article examines how the exiled thinker Eduardo Nicol, in order to fill the vacant rostrum left by the philosopher-orator José Ortega y Gasset, elaborated the emerging contemporary problem of the relationship between rhetoric and philosophy. This question concerns both the what and the what-for of philosophy. Is there a rhetorical zero degree in thinking? And if it exists, will it be the optimum degree as  regards the social goal of philosophy? Nicol answered (1) by advancing on the phenomenological semiotics of Husserl (and Heidegger) to establish in human communication the simultaneous constitution of expression, meaning, and objectivity; and (2) by renouncing Ortega’s rhetorical brilliance as a paradigm of philosophical influence on culture. Yet in the first way Nicol did not draw all the consequences of his expressionism; in the second, he had to admit a rhetorical norm somewhat different from the zero degree, since humanity was in danger. Nicol’s case, in dialogue with all tendencies ofcontemporary philosophy, reasserts the central place that semiotics holds among them.

Max Aub is one of the Spanish authors who best analyzed the Europeanfascist movements throughout his literary work. Particularly significant is his early work "Sobre algunos mitos fascistas" published in Nueva Cultura (1936). Following this text, this paper seeks to expose Aub’s work as an intellectual committed to the antifascist struggle and cultural criticism. It also depicts the author’s ideas about fascism and totalitarianism at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. Aub focuses his reflections on the reconstruction of the fascist in which racism, biopolitics and the masses are key to understanding European totalitarian movements. An analysis that the writer will develop in his prolific narrative, building one of the literary corpus in Spanish languagethat, in a more complex way, tries to understand totalitarianism. As a result, Max Aub can be included in the great tradition of European antifascist thinking.

This article claims that the concept of transtierro, invented by the Spanish philosopher José Gaos during his exile in Mexico, constitutes one of his philosophical legacies. In order to found this thesis, we will follow three steps: 1) it is tackled the notion of philosophical legacy to show what is that specific kind of legacy, 2) it is drafted a brief conceptual history of transtierro, and 3) it is showed in what sense the transtierro can be seen as one of the philosophical legacies of José Gaos. At the end of the text, it is left open the possibility to continue thinking the transtierro nowadays.

This paper examines the question regarding the fictionality of infiniteand infinitely small quantities from the point of view of the ideality of the mathematicalobjects. It maintains the hypothesis that already around 1676 Leibniz deployedarguments for establishing a separation between the fields of mathematics and that ofconcrete reality, and that this split especially affects the status of mathematical fictions. Thus begins a line of development begins that culminates later in Leibniz’s conceptionabout the distinction between what is ideal and what is real.

In this paper, I aim to demonstrate that “The Origin of the Work of Art” involves an implicit dialogue with the Hegelian philosophy of art. Specifically, we will try to show that this debate with the 19th-century philosopher occurs on two fronts: the thesis of the end of art and the relationship between art and history. Two objectives emerge from this: 1. First, we will analyze the discussion between the interpreters about whether or not for Heidegger art has come to an end and we will try to propose an answer of our own. Our thesis is that for the German philosopher, even though on the horizon of the technical age it seems unlikely, as we will see, art is not something past but, as Ereignis, is still able to “set the truth into work”.

Republic’s alleged feminism has been profusely discussed. Some see in Plato an avant la lettre feminist; some dismiss this as a possibility but do recognize Republic’s proposal as important; and others dismiss any feminist character in Plato or in Republic. Based on the idea that the control of female reproduction and sexuality is par excellence the place of male domination, I aim to problematize the fact that, in Republic, the access of the female guardians to the administration of the pólis is based on the dissolution of the bond between the mother and her children. I will argue that, in this light, the ideal city of Laws is a more interesting text to tackle the problem of women due to the contribution of its perspective on mothers’ rights.

This paper tries to clarify the connections between old and new or contemporary Luddism. Time has carried a diversification of the notion of Luddism, representing different agendas and attitudes. Therefore, there is useful to describe somehow what differences they have. As a conclusion there is the possibility to defend an enlighted or reflective Luddism, able to make a rational criticism on the technological development and on the notions of innovation and progress. For that, some classical authors such as Anders, Illich, Mumford and Winner, among others, provide a useful theoretical approach.
