Urban sustainability in the metropolitan region of Santarém, Pará, Brazil in the years 2000 and 2010

Resumen
The objective of the study was to identify the sustainability scenario in the metropolitan region of Santarém, state of Pará, Brazil, for the years 2000 and 2010, based on the Urban Sustainability Indices System by three indices, 10 indicators, and 19 variables. Progress was made in the performance of the municipalities that compose this region in relation to the Political-Institutional Capacity Index and the Municipal Human Development Index. There was no improvement for the Environmental Quality Index. Investments in the quality of services, productive chains, spatial planning, and environmental management are necessary to improve sustainability levels in this region.

Resumen
Existing similarities and differences in the spatial distribution of tourist sights are identified. Three different media are used: institutional tourism materials, travel guides, and user-generated contents (images shared on Instagram). The analysis is based on data from Uruguay. The results indicate that there is only a very slight overlap between the locations captured in user-generated images and those of tourist sights promoted in institutional materials and travel guides. This situation suggests tourist space is more extensive and diversified than the traditionally assumed by studies conducted on the basis of a single source.

The irruption and deployment of a kind of creative artistic actions in and with the urban public space of the Historic Center of the city of Cordoba, Argentina at present are explored and analyzed. Developed by social agents belonging to the feld of crea- tive economies, the practices investigated constitute a set of actions that entail a transitory and ephemeral character and that allow, in addition, the possibility of carrying out an integrated reading respect to the instabilities in contemporary city.

PCK aspects of Green Chemistry in university chemistry teachers This paper aims to document the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) about Green Chemistry (GC) in professors from the Institute of Chemistry of the University of São Paulo, experts from traditional fields of chemistry and working in different undergraduate degrees — BS in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry Teachers Education and Industrial Chemistry. Data were based on a questionnaire of 44 items answered by 26 teachers. Analyzes of responses were individual and collective within the areas of expertise. In Grossman’s model conceptions of purposes for teaching green chemistry were related to three models for teaching GC described in recent literature — traditional, contextualized and socio-scientific. Results revealed a significant dependence between teachers’ content knowledge and PCK in terms of consistency between the purposes and strategies for teaching GC, understanding the difficulties of students and curriculum knowledge. Teachers from Organic Chemistry area, which has a closer relationship with the contents of GC, show a preference for a socio-scientific approach and show greater alignment and consistency between the different PCK components as compared with teachers from other areas of chemistry.

Solvent-free asymmetric organocatalyzed reactions: a strategy towards a greener organocatalysisAccording with the principles of “green” chemistry, asymmetric organocatalysis aims to become a sustainable strategy to catalyze a wide range of chemical transformations. Furthermore, during the last decade the application of solvent-free methodologies has transformed asymmetric organocatalysis into an even “greener” alternative, avoiding the use of volatile, toxic and expensive reaction media. In this article, we review some recent salient examples of solvent-free strategies that have converted asymmetric organocatalysis into a more sustainable synthetic methodology.

Green and Sustainable Chemistry: Nature, Aims and Scope Green Chemistry entails a philosophy which is summarized in the twelve principles enunciated by Anastas and Warner, and whose aim is an industrial chemical process based on clean and safe reactions. This philosophy applies as well to other industries and activities which are based on chemical conversions, or on use of chemicals. Study of the industrial chemical process allows the visualization of convenient strategies for its greening, which are to be accomplished by related research or development fields, such as use of renewable source materials, substitution of traditional organic solvents, use of catalytic and biocatalytic procedures, or selective activation of reacting molecules. Previous to the industrial process, although with much later effects on the environment, new chemicals must be designed to fulfill conveniently their function and to be easily recycled o degraded at the end of their use.

With the prospect of the fossil resources depletion, it is necessary to find new alternative sources of energy and raw materials. O objetivo geral desse artigo é analisar o papel da argumentação no processo de mudança conceitual de estudantes. Para isso, foi utilizado o referencial teórico de Lakatos na análise de dados de um processo de ensino fundamentado em modelagem para o tema interações intermoleculares. A coleta de dados ocorreu em uma turma de 2.◦ ano do ensino médio a partir de registros em vídeo, notas de campo da pesquisadora e cópia de todas as atividades escritas produzidas pelos estudantes. A partir dos resultados, propomos que o elemento núcleo da filosofia Lakatosiana exerce o papel de afirmativa no argumento, enquanto o elemento cinturão protetor é construído por hipóteses auxiliares, que podem exercer o papel de 3 elementos da argumentação: evidências, afirmativas ou argumentos. Concluímos e defendemos que o referencial teórico de Lakatos é viável como ferramenta para a análise da construção do conhecimento dos alunos, pois favorece a compreensão do processo de mudanO objetivo geral desse artigo é analisar o papel da argumentação no processo de mudança conceitual de estudantes. Este trabajo examina la utilidad del andamiaje insertado en el guion de una actividad de indagación para promover la participación del alumnado en la práctica del diseño de investigaciones. Los participantes son 61 estudiantes de educación secundaria de 2º, 3º y 4º curso que se corresponden con alumnado de 14, 15 y 16 años respectivamente cursando la asignatura de física y química. La tarea utilizada para el análisis se enmarca en el contexto de la industria láctea, en particular en un problema de precipitación de la leche fresca, para el cual los estudiantes tienen investigar las causas, a través del diseño y puesta en práctica de una investigación en el laboratorio escolar. Para la toma de datos se recogen las producciones escritas de los estudiantes, las cuales se analizan comparándolas con la respuesta de referencia para resolver la cuestión. Los resultados principales muestran una baja eficacia del andamiaje utilizado
