Medicine in Germany during the nacionalsocialism period constituted  a social area of intense ethical and existential contradictions. In of the crimes of “lesa humanidad”, perpetrated by physicians obsequious to power and anxious for recognition, in the name of a “science of the race” and of “total war”, there also were attitudes and gestures of an opposition among those who continued –with great personal risk- to stay hold to a humanitary vision of their profession and of its participation in society. This article is a prolongation of the exposition initiated in the tenth issue of Revista Polis, and deals with the actions against crimes of the medical practice under the socialnacionalist rule. It is based on a systematic study of original sources and on recent investigations on the subject in Germany and other countries occupied by the nazi regime during II World War.

Within the context of Complexity’s Emerging Paradigm, education acquires a new meaning. Postulating new visions on the educational phenomena that transcends disciplinary conceptions becomes necessary, that is to say, a quest for a more sensitive and exhaustive educational practice, its axis being teaching how to research, integrating social and humanistic sciences, fomenting autonomous knowledge and producing citizens furnished with tools enabling them to interact with their environment in a creative manner as knowledge builders. Thinking on education as a path and as an art, and rethinking education from and for Complexity becomes an urgent task for XXI century educators.

Robledo Hoyos, Oscar
Universidad de los Lagos
Óscar Robledo’s essay transports us to a very different París to that of the postcards, one in which world’s missery lives side by side with the opulence of the ‘succesfull’. A beatifull and brilliant city in which the semiproletarized bodies of latin american students and so many other inmigrants walk arround; the same who  live in twelve square meters and who fight loneliness, hunger and precariousness through the heat of their bodies and almost frantic sexual encounters. Beyond common places and stereotipes, the description of the lifes of these beings inserted in one of the most rich cities of the world, is a cronical of underdevelopment in the core of a country who invented luxury. It is the story of so many dreamers eager for a culture which barely admits them with the indiference of those who feel themselves part of a ‘higher’ civilization.

Álvarez Guerrero, Osvaldo
Universidad de los Lagos
Osvaldo Álvarez gives us in this essay a profile of who was president of Argentina and a political thinker, Hipólito Yrigoyen. The central elements of his philosophical, social and political thougts are here rescued.Founder of the “Unión Cívica Radical”, Yrigoyen represents the best of a generation who tried to undertake a deep reform of argentinean society on the basis of a strong compromise with the nation, democracy, social change and ethics in all public issues. Inspired by the “krausista” way of thinking and the democratic model of the III French Republic, Yrigoyen rises as the figure of an austere politician, compromised with the developement of his country in a context of international cooperation, echoing the ideals of internationalism present in the XIX century.

The Latin-American Philosophy was born with the conflict about what is own and what is alien, that is to say a philosophy that did of its own statute of possibility the content to develop.  Therefore, a thought that far away from the metaphysical and epistemologic canons of  west europe, has tried since its beginnings to answer the two fundamental questions for our region ¿What we are? and ¿What can we be in the world order?  With all the political and identity load that these questions carry behind them.  The present article intends to foresee that ideology since the emancipators and the positivists of the end of the 19th century up to the revolutionary philosophy of the sixties.

Society is experiencing a series of changes on the relationship between institutions and community. In this context, the university, from its academic mission focused on education and research for the development of knowledge, is promoting greater involvement towards the needs of society, the so-called university’s social responsibility (USR). This article presents how, from a humanistic perspective, a community of social research  is established between the Research Unit Person-Centered Approach of the University of Valencia –Spain-, the Research Unit Prisma of the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga –Colombia- and the Albeiro Vargas Foundation (FAVAC) –Colombia- whose purpose is the care of elder. Through a participative research-action methodology, a basis for institutional cooperation for the promotion of psychological well-being of the elderly is created. The volunteering program by the UNAB, through their teachers and students, thus come up with a concrete action of USR whose first activity is the assessment of psychological well-being of the elderly in FAVAC.

This article analyzes the problem of Latin-American integration that has been raised throughout two centuries by different generations of thinkers, either intellectuals or politicians, creating a rich thought that is valuable by itself. However, the political project has not been able to be completed. Besides, facing this thought (since 1989 onwards) to an international reality even more complex, a question comes up due to its relevance. A re-reading is suggested about Latin-American thought in connection to the intellectual and disciplinary trends that have surfaced in (or about) Latin America in the last decades.Once the 20th century starts, we find a great volume of integrational thinker’s works drawn up in the region, but which are not equivalent to the socio-political Latin American reality. Although political agreements have come up in which the most relevant have been ALALC, PACTO ANDINO, ALADI, MERCOSUR, UNASUR, these have not been able to turn into an effective continental community. This contribution is studied thoroughly in the search for a new Latin American thought that takes into account the current internal phenomenon in the region (result of the comprehensive and decentralized processes) and the new ways of international action.

In this article the process of formation of the Latin-American nationality is analyzed, as well as the trails that help to discover the characteristics of our identity, recognizing crossbreeding as the defining element of our  being and doing as latin-americans.  The potentialities brought up by the cultural and ethnic diversity of the region are pointed out.  The integration of Latin America is seen as a challenge that our people should assume, starting from a conception that surpasses the purely economicistic vision and supports itself in the human and solidary dimension.  Finally the tasks that universities should assume in order to contribute to make this challenge come about are examined, such as the promotion of interdisciplinary studies and investigations on the possibilities of  designing a Latin-American project of Human Development, Endogenous and Sustainable, as well as contributing to create an integrationist  conscience and to establish institutes of Latin-American studies, among others issues.

This paper aims to analyze theoretical existing incompatibilities between the concept (and / or principles) of sustainable development and biofuels production based on the agribusiness model. In the first item we describe the main alerts issued through the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Report highlighting: a) the influence and role of human activities in the global warming process and environmental pollution, and b) the cost of opportunity in reducing CO2 emissions. In the second item we point out the major foreign investors interested in biofuels production, placing some reflections regarding this “profitably sustainable” business. As last consideration, we deny the absolute belief on free market as the best source for innovation and learning in order to develop viable and environmentally sustainable energetic alternatives.
