This article analyzes the role of gender roles and the industrial products supply for domestic consumption, specifically, processed foods, clothing and household appliances during the years 1953-1984. The aim of this analysis is to demonstrate the changes in the way of advertising these products and their relation to the traditional gender roles assigned in the home. The transformations experienced by women in education and paid work caused a tension in the traditional gender roles conception at this time, focused especially at women -who continue- in charge of the majority housework, under the discourse of facilitating household chores with the implementation of industrial products.

The publication of the prolegomena of the investigation of the 1921 war between Costa Rica and Panama invites the reader  to inquire about this scarcely known war. These prolegomena introduce the reader to a series of primary sources that shine a different light on the conflict. It defines it not only as a violent conflict, but as a forgotten war, with fallen soldiers, forgotten by the government. For example, it mentions that it wasn’t until 1961, that a plaque and a monument to commemorate their feat was unveiled at Morazan Park in San José.  These prolegomena analyzes the 1921 war from different perspectives including the literature that developed in the area as a result of the event. It also examines the role of the border and the southern area of the country. Press articles are abundant and take a privileged part in the investigation. In conclusion, these brief reviews of the writings of the war reveal the infinity of documents examined for a bigger investigation project, which goal is to recognize the significance of these events which haven’t been addressed with the importance they deserve.

enrique Lihn's novels mask behind a culture of show business, latent repressive acts. The author's narrative is crossed by the presence of intolerable situations generated by a fascist regime, which uses ideological rhetoric and simulation, to create cults for personality and forms of cultural vassalage. Batman in Chile is built as an artifact that shows the national locus horridus. Through kitsch, as a textual strategy, the author appropriates the language and formats left by the detritus of the mass media, while seeking to evade an environment of censorship and control over discourses. The world of the novel is a simulacrum of ideologies that fit the American model of life. A representation of the Chilean reality of the cold war period that exposes the spectacle and the mass media as ideological apparatuses at the service of the deformations of power and its rhetoric.

During the 16th century, Spaniards in Yucatán found a significant number of codices, or pieces of rough materials worked to produce the Mayan manuscripts. Most of these writings were burnt by Fray Diego de Landa, but before proceeding with their final destruction, he transcribed the necessary amount of information that centuries later gave Yuri K. Knórozov the clues to decipher the Mayan hieroglyphs. Throughout Spanish dominion, the Maya learned how to write its own language using the Latin alphabet while they forgot its own scripture system. At the beginning of the 19th century a large number of Mayan ruins of ancient cities were discovered, and soon Scholars started to wonder how to read the inscriptions sculpted in its monuments. This did not would occurred until the middle of the 20th century, when Knórozov discover the way to understand Mayan hieroglyphs.

This text shows the metaphoric manifestation of rain in The rain’s language (2000) by Julieta Pinto, as a direct correspondence with Lucia, the main character´s being and her becoming, and how the symbolism of her name is related with encounters and discounters surrounding her life. The girl/woman´s life is posed in a harmonic relation with nature and her existing divergence with the city´s world.
