In this text we try to establish a close up between what Merenda represents and her name as the main idea in the novel, and in her relationship with Francis. The love story weaved between these two is the clear sign of what Miranda’s displacement represents as an equivalent subject from the jungle. She is the jungle, from here is confirmed her love relation with Francis, a double love, encounter with paradise, and the one with the beloved woman in a metaphoric fusion for him.

What happens when some family or community member makes (or it is suspected that he/she made) a reprehensive act? This paper is a comparative reading among the short tale “Anita la cazadora de insectos” by the Honduran writer Roberto Castillo (2004) and the drama Lizzie Borden by the Mexican writer Lucía Leonor Enríquez (2010). Both texts show a woman who is part of a family or community; and she makes (or it is suspected that made) a reprehensive act; therefore, her environment, family and friends, stay away from her. Both women lose their voice and suffer a social death. In order to understand this process, it is used in Luis Villoro’s theory “Estadios en el reconocimiento del Otro”; but in these cases the process is the opposite.

The armed conflict in Guatemala is known in the Latin American region as one of the most violent of the 20th century. The violent structures of political and economic domination, based on the deeply racist, classist and misogynistic colonial heritage, generated in that country a series of popular uprisings of the oppressed groups after 1960 in order to build a more equitable, just and supportive society. For this purpose, the role of the Catholic Church was then very controversial, among the most conservative and complacent sectors with the established order and the groups that joined the social protest movements. Following this line, the present work intends to study the role of social Catholicism in Guatemala and the representatives of Liberation Theology such as Ricardo Falla and other colleagues during the civil war, in order to better understand the power struggles, the disputes ideological and social tensions that this nation experienced.

The body does not constitute a central topic in the theorization of literary avant-gardes. Nevertheless, it is a topic that appears with certain frequency within the avant-garde canon. In virtue of the aesthetic heterogeneity and plurality belonging to both the European and Latin American isms, it is not possible, however, to talk about an avant-garde body instead of the different paths and avant-garde searches when approaching the somatic. Nevertheless, in this article we will take care of profiling some of the general characteristics of the avant-garde approaches of the bodily. Specifically, we will refer to the way in which the body is presented in some of the literary movements of the Latin American avant-garde. Finally, we will examine the avant-garde influence in the "Repertorio Americano". In essence, we will pay special attention to the way that certain Costa Rican authors who published in the magazine directed by García Monge replicated the ways in which the literary avant-garde, both Latin American and European, approached the topic of the body.

This article contemplates a strengthening of Natalia Mairena's thesis proposal, Jale al Puerto, by including natural, cultural and social inputs that were not considered in the first instance. Thus, such strengthening bets on the inclusion of women in the project, since at the country level the Cultural Information System of Costa Rica (2014) identifies various organizations of cultural management and production, many of these of women entrepreneurs; several of these are representatives of the province of Puntarenas, such as the Association of Vigoroneras and Cajeteras de Puntarenas or the Liga de Mujeres of the canton of Puntarenas. Therefore, it is recommended that an organized group of women from Puntarenas collaborate in the development of the proposals in conjunction with other public agencies, in order to benefit the integration of women in the economy of Puntarenas and manage a space for the empowerment of women in Puntarenas.

This research proposes a reflection about the vision of women from three key feminist epistemological premises: deconstruction, disassembly and elaboration through an analysis of the leading role of Laura in the novel Limón Reggae by Ana Cristina Rossi and the procedures of visibilization, denaturalization and historization. The study establishes the possibility of highlighting elements that are specific of the female character by constructing or destructing spaces, historical and cultural facts, life circumstances and other elements within a Costa Rican and Central American reality. All this will make it possible to reconstruct the female discourse from a more humanistic perspective in a society where women are faced with daily challenges that they need to overcome.

The position that Unamuno assumes throughout his work Del sentimiento trágico de la vida en los hombres y en los pueblos is striking in comparison with Nietzsche's position. In this essay, this particular theme is approached through a confrontation of both positions and the hypothesis is held that although they are not identical, they certainly have a methodological closeness, and not so much in terms of the ideas that are defended. For this purpose, we will resort to an exegetical analysis, taking as a point of reference the explicit mentions that Unamuno makes of Nietzsche in his Del sentimiento trágico de la vida en los hombres y en los pueblos, in order to, subsequently, demonstrate from them the methodological closeness of the authors, as well as to try to elaborate an evaluation of the criticisms launched by Unamuno against Nietzsche.
