Resumen
At the turn of the twentieth century, Fernanda Francés was one of the most well known artists of the period in Spain. However, what we know of her career as both an artist and teacher is limited, and what is commonly believed about her multifaceted life sometimes bears little resemblance to reality. The goal of the article is to correct these lacunae and misunderstandings by supplying new facts that allow us to reconstruct her life and work. To this end, we have relied primarily on source materials from the period, especially periodical publications, where valuation is noted by critics as «true artist».

Resumen
According to Arnold Hauser, the purpose of history is the understanding of the present. His controversial Social History of Art (1951) culminated in «The Film Age». This interest in cinema dates back to his experience as distributor of films in Vienna (1924-1938), when he planned an unfinished Dramaturgy and Sociology of Film. This notwithstanding, his following investigation, Mannerism: the Crisis of the Renaissance and the Origin of Modern Art (1964), seems to disengage from the problematic of mass art and its medium, and some have interpreted it as a «retreat from Marxism». Consulting the archives of C.H. Beck (Munich), the Library of Congress (Washington D.C.), and the German Literature Archive (Marbach), this paper inquires why Hauser wrote Mannerism and not a book on cinema, chronicling his contact with Theodor Adorno, Herbert Read and Siegfried Kracauer. We conclude that the history of its gestation documents the pragmatic choice of an independent, exiled intellectual in a situation of uneasy economic precariousness.

Resumen
This article explores and discusses community-based tourism (CBT) and proposes a model intended to be exemplary for CBT cases throughout most of the world’s emerging countries. Further, this paper aims at establishing a connection between competitiveness and local CBT development, calling therefore the proposed model C-CBT. The authors try to establish the motivations to develop this type of tourism, as well as the drawbacks, grouping them into the C-CBT model. This model is then used as a comparative tool and applied to two territories in Colombia which have suffered from conflict in the last decades and have subsequently developed CBT. As for the field work in the two locales, it is based on interviews and observation carried out in the context of tourism development projects in both areas. The outcome is a clearer understanding of the factors that favor CBT initiatives and connects these with competitiveness frameworks, with the added interest that the presented cases come from a severely conflict-burdened country.

Resumen
This paper consists of an analysis of the translation of Beowulf made by Tolkien in 1926. The aim is to explore the modifications that his translation process applies to alliteration, kennings and archaisms, essential stylistic features in Anglo-Saxon poetry. These changes seem inevitable given 1) the differences between Anglo-Saxon poetic conventions and Present-Day English speech and literature, and 2) the needs of Tolkien’s target audience, his students at Oxford. Still, such changes pursue Tolkien’s main purpose, which, influenced by the ideas of New Criticism and Modernism, aims to maintain in translation the aesthetic value of the three stylistic features mentioned above. We follow Bassnett’s (1998) theoretical perspective to indicate that the traditional definition of ‘translation’ as a ‘copy’ of the original is not enough to qualify Tolkien’s translation: the innovations applied turn the translation into a new ‘original’.

Resumen
In Juan de Mairena Machado recommends imagining the poet before writing the verses. This paper looks into the meaning of this advice and its consequences for lyrical poetry. The concept of apocryphal, and its links with folklore, serves to reject the usual notion of poetry as an expression of the feelings of self. All of this outlines a poetics that acknowedges the others as the starting point for poetry. This approach shows that the invention of an apocryphal author overshadows the self in favour of the otherness that constitutes the human being. At the same time the apocryphal allows to explore those metaphysical positions that, according to Machado, are implicit to the very nature of poetry.

Since the last decade of the 20th century we have witnessed an increase in the production of these dictionaries, especially in Italy¾that is why we are going to analyse the ones produced in the last decades. Among the multitude of possible issues, our study focuses on the inclusion mechanisms of lexicographical markings and syntax. Our goal is to guide the user among the many possibilities or restrictions of use of the lexical units incorporated into the different bilingual dictionaries.

Resumen
This study analyzes the theatrical billboard for Luis de Belmonte Bermúdez during the 17th century, ascertaining which comedies were the most successful and where they were represented, always bringing them into relation with their publishing fortune. The work concludes that Belmonte never was a prolific or successful author. By collaborating with certain prestigious playwrights, some of his comedies could be performed with relative frequency. Finally, the study explores the possibility of Belmonte’s good relations with the aristocracy, given that his drama was staged on several occasions during the 1620s at court.

Resumen
English is no longer the language belonging to about 375 million native English speakers. It is also an international language spoken by more than a billion of second and foreign language users. The models used to teach English as a second or foreign language have traditionally been mainly native speaker models. However, in the last few years, a large number of researchers have suggested integrating a model of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) into the English classroom because it has several benefits for international communication, since international intelligibility is now the main goal. In this work, a research study has been carried out to analyze how Spanish students of English (B2 level) value some of the main tenets of the ELF model, such as the importance of confidence, intelligibility and the dichotomy native vs. non-native accent while speaking the foreign language.
