Linguistic mediation, an emerging and, in turn, flourishing communicative language activity that has been present in the CEFR since 2001, has contributed to offering a broader and more realistic dimension of the concept of communicative competence. It adds an intercultural factor to the communicative approach when establishing the “mediator” figure as a connecting bridge in situations of incomprehension among one or several users belonging to different cultures. The aim of this article is to provide insight into the concept of mediation and the distinctive features defining it, as well as the strategies that enable better practice. We will also focus our attention on the translation field as instrumental support¾more precisely, on the pedagogical translation (PT) and audiovisual translation (AVT) due to their effectiveness and success when the message is being transmitted and understood.

The starting point of this study is Pier Paolo Pasolini’s interview with Ezra Pound in the autumn of 1967 for a documentary by Vanni Ronsisvalle titled Incontri. Ezra Pound, broadcast by the RAI in June of 1968. To begin with, we present the exact context in which this documentary was produced. We then offer a description and analysis of the content of the interview, as well as an in-depth study of Pasolini’s critical observations on the American poet, which allows us to understand the relevance, significance, and evolution of the Italian poet’s reactions of attraction to, and rejection of Pound. A final appendix describing the documentary in its entirety is included, as a useful frame of reference for the interview studied.

Teaching methods have evolved substantially over time, as students’ learning styles and needs nowadays are different from those that students used to have in the past. That is the reason why the integration of technology in the language learning process has been progressively introduced in the classrooms. Mobile Learning and gamification are only some of the most recent trends. Gamification in education refers to the use of game design elements in educational contexts. The aim of this paper is to discuss the benefits derived from gamification in second language learning in the areas of vocabulary and grammar learning, language and soft skills development, and second language assessment. Some of the benefits found in this study include frequent and personalized feedback, development of social learning, and an increased motivation.

The expansive and disorderly growth of the contemporary Latin American city is a characteristic typical of intermediate cities, especially when they have experienced strong economic dynamism attracting important population growth. In this work we delve into various aspects of the growth of the port city of Manta, in terms of its territorial expression and the transformations produced in the urban space in the last decades, filling an existing gap in the literature on this city. We tackle the relationship between the increase in the surface area occupied and the growth of the population in key periods of the development of the city, through data and historical evidence with which the changes in the urban model are described. The economic dynamics linked to port activities, manufacturing and export fisheries accounted for the largest expansion of the urban surface, consolidating a pattern of low density supported through various new roads. The result is a dispersed, disordered and clearly segregated model of occupation where the limited urban policies have encouraged investment in real estate in the areas better provided with equipment, services and connectivity.

The 1953 Law for the Organization of Economic Education and Business Administration changed the role of commercial schools, which was materialized in the 1953 and 1956 reform of their curricula. The reform affected the geographic subjects. At the same time, the new subject “Structure Economic” was consolidated in Spanish universities. The article analyzes the circumstances that contributed to the disappearance of the Economic Geography subjects in the economic and business administration studies in Spain. For this, the academic scenario, the content of Economic Geography through published manuals, the relations between the Faculties of Economic Sciences and the Business Schools for the validation to Economic Geography and the conceptual revision of the subject for its recognition as part of economic science are studied. The article concludes with reflections on the real causes of the disappearance of Economic Geography in the academic training of economists and business managers.
