Resumen
The artistic and cultural coordinates that define the Modernist aesthetics in the Hispanic world have maintained its applicability over a hundred years. Cosmopolitism and americanism, hispanism, trascendentalism, aestheticism and syncretism constitute a genuine Hispanic American literary tradition defined from Modernism. The Magic Realism novels show the continuity of this legacy, reshaped by anthropological, cultural, religious, and psychological contributions. The reception of this tradition in Miguel Ángel Asturias “Hombres de maíz” is analysed in this paper.

Resumen
In this contribution, I offer an articulated vision of the commitments of text linguistics and text grammar, from the tasks that belong to each of these subjects for an accurate interpretation of a specific text. This paper focuses on the leading role of text markers in the articulation and organisation into a hierarchy of the inferior sense units, in the framework of the global sense of the text.

Resumen
It has been argued sometimes that discourse marker por contra should not have a place in current Spanish because of its being an unnecessary gallicism. In this paper we aim to show that this view is wrong on two bases: first, its meaning does not equal that of par contre in French; and second, discourse markers in Spanish such as por el contrario and en cambio which are claimed to be suitable substitutes, do not convey the same meaning.
