This study aimed to evaluate the spatial distribution and performance of the microregions of Rio Grande do Sul in milk production, between 1995 and 2020. Specifically, regional specialization, spatial concentration and sources of growth were analyzed. For this, the Location Quotient, Location Gini and shift-share methods were applied. In terms of regional specialization, there was a reduction in the number of specialized microregions, especially those located in the Southeast, Southwest and Metropolitan regions of Porto Alegre, simultaneously with an increase in the number of highly specialized microregions, which are located mainly in the Northwest mesoregion. The changes in the degree of regional specialization occurred associated with the increase in spatial concentration, demonstrating that the more specialized regions became more productive, either by the adoption of new techniques and production processes, or by the favorable dynamics and structural conditions, with impacts on income generation and maintenance of the activity. The evidence corroborates the growth in milk production supported by productivity gains associated with a reduction in the herd and an increase in technology and specialization. Key words: growth; specialization; milk production; Rio Grande do Sul.

Although the relationships between gender and work are widely explored in the literature, they are not investigated with the same frequency by cross-cultural approaches, that is, through a perspective that considers the possible influences of national culture on individual values, attitudes, and behavior. This study aimed to verify, quantitatively, the differences between Brazilians and Americans regarding the understanding of gender inequalities at work, discussing such differences in light of the cultural characteristics of the countries compared. Data from 2,596 Americans and 1,762 Brazilians were submitted to statistical correlation and mean-comparison tests. The findings indicated that, in Brazil, there is a greater tendency to accept gender inequality at work, a result that proved to be compatible with sociodemographic characteristics and Brazilian cultural background, under the influence of patriarchy and high power distance, and American cultural background, characterized by the union of the people in search of equality and freedom for all. Keywords: social development; inequality in organizations; brazilian society; american society; cross-cultural study.

The Entrepreneurial Ecosystem [EE] approach suggests the contribution of various actors to venture creation. However, the way in which the interaction of actors occurs is still inconclusive. Articulating constructs derived from social networks and institutionalism, this theoretical essay formulates propositions that position entrepreneurial culture and social networks as key factors for the articulation of EEs. In the proposed model, entrepreneurial culture is represented by the main types of information transmitted by role models to potential entrepreneurs. Networked firms go through the entrepreneurial process in three phases: discovery of opportunities, securing resources, and gaining legitimacy; influencing a diverse ecosystem. It is argued that network-related EEs influenced by local culture allow for greater contextualization of entrepreneurial activity. Keywords: entrepreneurial ecosystems; networks. culture; institutions; local development.

This research presents an analysis of the concept of Anthropocene, as a new terrestrial era. Furthermore, it analyzes the idea of sustainable development from this new global era, as well as reflecting on a viable conception of the Science of Law, alongside Natural Sciences, capable of facing this new and challenging planetary framework. The text presents three sections, which addresses the Anthropocene, epistemological and environmental issues, in relation to the meaning of sustainable development, as well as describing a legal perspective for a new ecology. As a conclusion, the thesis of a Law for nature is defended, capable of placing itself alongside natural sciences to, in dialogue with radical ecology movements, mediate the production of shared knowledge, with a view to reformulating the normative foundations of environmental law. Keywords: anthropocene; sustainable development; natural law; quantum law.

This study evaluated the impact of the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (PRONAF) on the socioeconomic development of municipalities in Paraná. To this end, the Propensity Score Matching method was applied, considering, for the year 2019, the municipalities that included the highest number of family farmers in PRONAF (treatment group) compared to those that included the fewest (control group), in order to investigate the effect of this inclusion on the Ipardes Municipal Development Index (IPDM — a proxy for socioeconomic development) and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita (a proxy for economic growth). It is emphasized that the method used allows for causal inference, highlighting that the analyzed effect is not limited to the direct beneficiaries of PRONAF, but also considers the indirect impact on the overall development of the municipality. As a corollary, an initial analysis revealed a heterogeneous spatial distribution of Pronaf’s resources and projects among the municipalities of Paraná, with a decrease in such investments over time. Regarding the effects of the policy on socioeconomic development, a positive and statistically significant impact on both the IPDM and the GDP per capita of the analyzed municipalities was identified. Keywords: family farming; PRONAF; socioeconomic development; propensity score matching; Paraná municipalities.

Gastronomy, food, and alimentation are increasingly recognized as essential elements to drive sustainable development in territories, playing crucial roles in local economy and addressing socio-environmental issues. This study aimed to explore how the use of regional ingredients in gastronomy can act as a catalyst for local development, supporting the economy, reinforcing cultural identity, and promoting environmental sustainability. The research was conducted through a bibliographic review of studies linking the use of regional ingredients in gastronomy and perspectives on local development. Works published in Portuguese over the last 20 years were sought. Gastronomic culture is influenced by various factors such as ethnic, religious, social backgrounds, miscegenation, climatic, and geological conditions. Research highlights gastronomy as a vital tool to valorize regional ingredients, promoting rural development and strengthening family farming. Community and government engagement is crucial to strengthen family farming and valorize regional ingredient diversity. Gastronomy plays a significant role as a local development agent, providing job and income opportunities by valorizing regional products. With the support of public policies and collaboration between civil society and private initiative, it can contribute to overall societal improvement. Furthermore, the analysis of experiences shows that local ingredients such as cassava flour, corn, and artisanal cheese are integrated into tourism strategies, certification, and territorial identity, reinforcing gastronomy as a vector for sustainable and cultural development. Keywords: Regional Development; Regional Food; Regional Cuisine.

This article presents the findings of a qualitative investigation conducted between 2019 and 2023 in the Quarta Colonia, a territory comprising nine municipalities affiliated with the Quarta Colônia Sustainable Development (CONDESUS), located in the Central Region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The main objective was to analyze the emblematic food of this territory using the theoretical and methodological approach of the Basket of Territorial Goods and Services (BTGS). For this purpose, a bibliography, documentary, and exploratory review was conducted, complemented by oral history: semi-structured interviews were carried out with fifteen families of Italian immigrant descendants residing in the region. Fourteen emblematic foods were identified as the main gastronomic assets of the territory, contributing to the enhancement of local tourism. Of these, nine of them exhibit greater touristic relevance: chicken risotto; breaded steak (beef or pork); agnoline soup; polenta; fortaia; cheese; salami; copa — All commonly featured in the “typical table” served at local restaurants and festivals. An additional five were recognized as potential emblematic foods: bigoli; talharim (taiadelli/taiadei); gnocchi; minestra soup; and morcilha (codeguim), as they carry the memories and identity of the communities descended from immigrants. Finally, the identification of a BTGS in the region emerges as an effective strategy for linking gastronomic heritage with the promotion of sustainable tourism development, by recognizing the agri-food knowledge of Italian communities as their leading product and primary territorial asset. Keywords: territorial development; gastronomy; gastronomic tourism.

Agricultural development changes the ecosystem with social, cultural, economic and environmental implications. These changes undergo constant evolution impacted by the dynamics in the development process. In view of this, the sustainability of agriculture in the municipality of Santo Antônio das Missões, RS, located in the Pampa Biome region, was researched. The first stage of the research was carried out through interviews with forty production units in the first half of 2020 and the second stage through online interviews, due to Covid 19, from September 2020 to April 2021. The study was also supported by thematic maps and secondary data. The evolution of agriculture, agroecological zoning, characterization of production systems were studied and action priorities were defined. As a result, seventeen types of production systems were characterized, thirteen family-based and four employer-based. The high numerical presence of family farming stands out, but extreme land concentration in grain production and beef cattle farming. There was a marked increase in soybean cultivation, a decrease in dairy activity and a significant reduction in beef cattle and sheep farming in the last ten years. Family livestock farmers and smallholders have difficulty reaching the level of social reproduction and growing types depend excessively on soybeans. Therefore, public authorities should prioritize family farmers in order to improve the level of social reproduction and develop strategies to reduce dependence on soy and impacts on the pampas biome. Keywords: family farming; regional development; sustainability.

The disorderly expansion of cities increases regional inequalities and contributes to the rise of crime in large urban centers. In view of this, this study investigated the relationship between the average homicide and robbery rates per 100,000 inhabitants and the value per square meter of residential property in Belo Horizonte in the period 2017-2021, using hierarchical models with spatial lag. As a result, the Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Data (AEDE) indicated distinct patterns of agglomeration for crime rates between the regions of the municipality of Belo Horizonte. In addition, the econometric results revealed that properties located in regions with higher homicide rates have lower square meter values in their built-up areas. On the other hand, the opposite is true for theft and robbery rates, which show a positive relationship with the square meter value of the properties. Keywords: crime; regional inequalities; hedonic prices; spatial hierarchical model; Belo Horizonte.
