This study aims to analyze scientific articles from the Scopus (Elsevier) and Web of Science (Clarivate) databases that address the motivations of family farming in adopting biofertilizers. The methodology applied was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), using the Methodi Ordinatio (MO) protocol for the selection, ranking, and evaluation of studies. A total of 30 articles were analyzed, revealing three main dimensions of motivation: economic (cost reduction and increased profitability), ecological (environmental sustainability), and social (community influence and access to information). The main gaps identified in the literature include the lack of research on technology transfer, the scarcity of opinion studies with family farmers, and limited analysis of the social impacts of biofertilizer use. It is concluded that the adoption of this technology is driven by interconnected factors and that further academic investigation is needed to support public policies and sustainable practices. Keywords: decision making; family farming; biofertilizers; Methodi Ordination.

This study identifies and examines new succession models established on rural properties as a form of generational transfer, replacing the traditional succession model widely discussed in the literature. The research was conducted in the Northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, using rural properties with ongoing succession processes as units of analysis. In addition to the traditional succession model (defined as the model in which the successor inherits the management and assets of the property from their parents, resides on the property, carries out its activities, and is responsible for supporting their parents in old age), four other models were identified: 1) the son lives on the property while the parents reside in an urban area; 2) the son lives on the parents' property, but in a separate house; 3) the son lives in a rural area on a different property; and 4) the son lives in an urban area but performs activities on the parents' property. Although these models differ from the traditional succession model, the young people involved are considered by their parents to be successors, and they similarly recognize themselves as such. Keywords: rural producers; successors; cooperativism; young.

The objective of this study is to describe the integration of farmers into supply chains and the effects of Covid-19 on family farming markets in the municipality of Sarandi-RS. This is exploratory research, with a non-probabilistic and convenience sampling approach. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire administered to 24 farmers between May and June 2022. For analysis purposes, respondents were classified into three groups based on their integration into different supply chains: global chains, local chains, and hybrid chains combining global and local elements. Most respondents reside on their own property, employ both family and hired labor, and use both global and local supply chains to market their products. The findings indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic had a more severe impact on farmers engaged in local supply chains (e.g., selling at fairs and schools), preventing them from normally selling their products, which consequently led to a decline in production, commercialization, and income. Keywords: pandemic; diversification; production flow; agri-food systems.

Since 2019, the liberalization process of the Brazilian natural gas industry has been accelerating. In 2021, substantiating the ongoing changes, Law 14,134, known as the “New Natural Gas Law,” was enacted. One of the main concerns of the “New Gas Law” was the harmonization of federal and state regulations. In this regard, the State of Espírito Santo has been standing out. The Petrobras divestment process, also initiated during this period, allowed the Espírito Santo government to create a natural gas distribution company whose concession contract complies with the changes introduced in federal regulation. Therefore, this article sought to analyze the impacts of changes in the regulatory framework of the natural gas industry on the economy of the State of Espírito Santo. The main conclusion is that the new regulatory framework defined by Law 14,134 is insufficient to unlock investments in the Espírito Santo natural gas industry. Keywords: regulation; liberalizing reforms; natural gas; transaction cost; investment.

Regression models are widely used in Economics, particularly when the data involved are rates and proportions. The Unit-Lindley regression model is defined for data restricted to the (0,1) range. In regular problems, inference based on asymptotic theory can be unreliable when the sample is small. This is the case of the maximum likelihood estimation and the Wald test. Corrections of biases in the maximum likelihood estimators and adjustments made in the test statistics are a widely used way to solve such problems. In this article, we obtain an expression to the correct the bias and a formula for the second-order covariance matrix for the maximum likelihood estimators in the Unit-Lindley regression model. Numerical evidence shows that the corrected estimators are less biased and that the Wald test based on second-order covariance is more accurate. Finally, an application to economic data is presented, in which the Growth Rate of Real GDP per capita is modeled as a function of openness in constant prices. Keywords: bias correction; modified Wald test; second-order covariance matrix. Unit-Lindley regression.

This research seeks to draw attention to intimate partner violence in sexual diversity in Latin America, specifically in Mexico and Colombia. Its objectives are to examine the extent of this situation, review the experiences of external discrimination and internalized heterosexism, and explore their association with the risks of intimate partner violence for diverse sexual diversity groups. To this end, an online survey was developed in Mexico and Colombia (n=824), collecting data on various types of violence and associated factors. Disparities in the prevalence of violence and discrimination according to sexual orientation and gender identity were identified. While the relevance of internalized heterosexism and external discrimination as risk factors for intimate partner violence is corroborated, significant associations are also found with other variables, such as experiences of violence during childhood. Limitations of the study are noted and the importance of understanding the specific experiences of sexual diversity in order to effectively address intimate partner violence in the region is highlighted.

The issue of homeless people in Chile and Latin America has been framed as a masculinized issue, rendering women who spend the night on the streets invisible. This article examines the experiences of homeless women in the city of Temuco, Chile, considering the impact of gender stereotypes in the practices, displacements, and relationships that are formed when sharing spaces and distributing roles. Through a qualitative research methodology, interviews were conducted with women who sleep on the street rather than in night shelters. The main conclusion is that patriarchal systems and the traditional gender role distributions are replicated in the population living on the street, determining  homeless women’s specific ways of inhabiting the urban space. Due to the insecurity and violence they experience when on the street, women have limited freedom of movement from the place they consider their home turf, and fewer possibilities to develop connections and obtain the necessary income to eventually get off the streets.

Analyses of health issues facing indigenous populations often overlook their internal diversity, leading to descriptions that homogenize the various ethnic groups. Recent studies of the COVID-19 vaccination in Mexico have shown lower vaccination rates among indigenous-language speakers. To provide a context-based analysis, this article describes the factors and barriers that determined the effectiveness of vaccination coverage in two Zapotec communities in Oaxaca, southern Mexico. Retrospective interviews, ethnographic studies, and statistical analyses of official COVID-19 and vaccination data revealed that, despite their geographic, demographic, and cultural similarities, vaccine acceptance varied substantially in both communities. The article proposes hypotheses for some of the sociocultural, political, and organizational factors at the community and governmental levels that may have impacted these contrasting results.

The rise in the dissolution of civil unions has underscored the importance of studying the different risks faced by those who opt for a marriage or a cohabitation union in their first relationship. This article takes a new approach to this topic by distinguishing between divorces, marital separations, and cohabitation dissolutions. To this end, tables of union dissolutions were drawn up based on marital and cohabitation union cohorts from 1984 to 2016, categorized by the type of union and dissolution. Survival models (Cox’s proportional hazards models) were also estimated in order to examine the factors influencing each type of dissolution. The results show that the probabilities of divorce and marital separation are similar, while dissolutions of cohabitation unions show a different trend. Those who divorce or separate in a marriage form a selective, urban group with higher educational levels, and at an increased risk of dissolution when they first marry at an early age. In contrast, cohabitations unions present the highest levels of dissolution, regardless of the age of the first union, and their socioeconomic characteristics are associated with shorter marital durations. Of the variables analyzed, only the number of children consistently affects all the duration models.
