Viral maps have gained significant space on social networks today. They enhanced the rapid and ephemeral dissemination of information. Understanding this dynamic is essential for geographers, as it refers to new perspectives regarding graphic semiology and the production of cartographic content. This research perspective, still open, has great potential for theoretical, methodological and practical discussion in the short and medium terms. Thus, the objective of this article is (i) to evaluate the level of interaction of posts with maps and without maps on 4 Facebook and Instagram pages and to compare the results with the content posted by the Viral Cartography page; (ii) compare audience interaction with posts considering the two social media platforms; (iii) to evaluate the potential for social engagement of 5 maps that dealt with issues that were in high demand in the media. This work has a qualitative and quantitative character in which likes, reactions, shares and comments on posts are evaluated. We concluded with the analyzes undertaken that viral maps are efficient and expanding tools for the propagation of (dis) information. Although ephemeral, they have significant implications for the interpretation of content and the formation of opinions. Thus, this field of investigation becomes very relevant and necessary for contemporaneity..

The process and social, economic and cultural change that brought about the Republic of Peru early 19th century, intensified in Tarapaca, the most austral province, from the implementation of nitrate leaching machines that through the exportation of soda niter, was inserted in the international market and in modernity. In this article the main question is if provincial elites got used to those changes and, particularly, the indigenous elite, especially the one benefited by the institution of chieftainship had achieved important positions of power. It is speculated that those elites persisted between 1854, year of the abolition of the indigenous tax and installation of de the steam nitrate machine, and 1874, the year before of the expropriation of the nitrate industry. On the one hand, the political-administrative position of the Justice of the Peace, who were the expression of local power for social control and, on the other, the presence of miners of indigenous origin in the industry mentioned, especially in nitrate family and business networks.

Northern Chile, and particularly the Precordillera and Altiplano area, has climatic conditions characterized by aridity, but not exempt from intense rainfall events and very cold temperatures. Aymara communities have settled in this area since pre-Columbian times and have prospered and developed agropastoral activities despite these unfavorable conditions based on the observation of natural indicators. Based on precipitation and temperature data and semi-structured interviews, we identified those indicators and the climatic/meteorological behavior they predicted in the case of the populations of Putre (Precordillera) and Caquena (Altiplano). Thus, it was identified that these natural indicators allow predicting with a certain confidence the wet or dry, or cold or warm character of a coming season, but present certain limitations when it comes to predicting the occurrence of local extreme events. In this sense, this work is a good step forward in highlighting the traditional knowledge of Andean communities, which appears as another example of their heritage value.

In the context of the UN 10-year Framework Programmes on Sustainable Production and Consumption (2012-2022), it is necessary to understand consumption patterns, mainly in urban areas.  The municipal geography of consumption establishes a radical change in understanding urban sustainability merely as a challenge of poverty and low consumption.  Through an Urban Sustainability Index, we identify patterns that reveal material processes and opportunities for wellbeing and levels of consumption. Focusing on the urban metabolism and indicators of impacts on intergenerational wellbeing, the index shows high levels of consumption in four municipalities and notable gaps in material and social conditions at the national and intra-regional scales. The article presents the municipal geography of wellbeing and consumption in Chile, in order to reveal the condition of urban sustainability to guide improvements in material and social conditions uncoupled from consumption.  It also warns of the particular paradoxes of the development process.

In Chile, the presence of slums or informal settlements is one of the expressions most commonly associated with urban informality. They represent a housing access strategy that has been used by vulnerable groups who, for different reasons, have been excluded from the formal housing market. The case study is 274 homes of Chilean citizens and immigrants who reside in 17 slums located in the districts of Lampa and Maipú, in the Metropolitan Region. Information was gathered to characterize these households socioeconomically and analyze their internal and external migration movements, as well as to determine the probability of action that they have in order to find a definitive housing solution. It has been concluded that immigrant households don’t choose to live in slums directly, but they usually take approximately three years. On the other hand, the previous housing situation of these households is marked by different types of informality, renting without a contract being characteristic, and their trajectories between districts are broad, unlike Chilean households whose trajectories occur within of the same district. Finally, it is determined that when the horizon of permanence in the slum is longer, the probability of searching actively for a housing situation decreases strongly.

Home ownership is a symbolic and material guarantee of social mobility for Latin American households, to the point that other housing tenure modalities such as renting are relegated from the market and public policies. For countries such as Colombia, the rental housing segment represents the housing solution for half of the population, a condition that has been strengthened in the last five years with the massive immigration of Venezuelans to the country's main urban centers. In Bogota, the high demand for rental housing in informal neighborhoods has stimulated the price of rents to rise, favoring landlords and, indirectly, the low-income housing market. This article seeks to expose the difficulties experienced by Venezuelan immigrant families in their search for rental housing in the city's informal neighborhoods where the cost of living may be more affordable, but they must face the lack of price regulation, as well as segregation and discrimination based on their country of origin, experiencing not only violence and discrimination by State institutions, but also the stigmatization of the inhabitants of equally segregated neighborhoods.

Water scarcity in the Brazilian semiarid is seen as a problem that can affect the quality of water in aquifers and reservoirs, especially salinization. This research aimed to evaluate the water quality of alluvial aquifers in the Riacho do Tigre Basin - PB, in the Brazilian semiarid region. The analyzes were performed in shallow alluvial wells, using a multiparametric probe. Five alluvial wells were selected in different environments, which were monitored, observing the values of pH, conductivity, temperature, total dissolved solids and salinity. It was observed that the water quality was worse in November and better in March, with an improvement according to the increase in humidity and water recharges. The results show that the most suitable water for human consumption is that of well 3 and the least appropriate is that of well 1, according to the values obtained. The data can serve as a basis for integrated management and management of water resources, offering ways to create multi-scale strategies in order to improve water quality through proper treatment, and thus, use water for different purposes according to the quality presented.   Key words: Semiarid Fluvial System, Water Quality, Alluvials Wells.
