The Constitution of Ecuador of 2008 established new rights for migrants, among which political rights stand out. This paper begins with a theoretical reflection on political transnationalism and state anthropology to examine the behavior of the migrant vote in the last decade and the profile of Ecuadorians who go to the polls. With data from the National Electoral Council and a multisite survey conducted as part of this research in several cities around the world during the presidential elections of 2017, the text supports the thesis that the vote from abroad is a central element for observing the deployment and reconfiguration of the transnational State.

This paper discusses the scope of relations between Brazil and Mexico during the terms in office of Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) and Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018). The starting premise is that neither country has cooperated beyond commercial relations of convenience. This question allows us to understand, in part, the reason why there is a heated discourse of rivalry between Brazil and Mexico, although both countries share issues of common interest in the formulation of their agendas on foreign policy.

Celebrities are able to mobilize a wide range of people on a global scale. In his Oscar acceptance speech, Leonardo DiCaprio urged his international audience to work collectively to combat climate change. Another example of celebrity activism is Daryl Hannah's support for biofuels and the campaign against the Keystone XL pipeline. The article analyzes the legitimacy of such celebrity power in international relations, along three criteria (political impact; broad participation; control and accountability). It argues that as long as celebrities' claims are vague and do not go further than UN consensus, celebrity power can be considered legitimate through the political impact. In addition, DiCaprio and Hannah contribute civil society perspectives to the international agenda - while, however, not necessarily voicing most marginalized positions. Finally, by urging governments to comply to international agreements, as DiCaprio does, he holds governments accountable on behalf of the public. However, both DiCaprio and Hannah claim to speak on behalf of affected people who cannot hold the celebrities themselves accountable for their political action. This lack of control is problematic if celebrities convey more radical positions which are not generally endorsed by the international community, as Hannah does when protesting against Keystone XL and promoting biofuels.

Since the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (nafta), reciprocal flows of goods, services, capital and persons between Mexico and Canada have increased exponentially. However, the tone of relations between the two countries oscillates between grandiloquence, deception and misunderstanding. It is therefore worth asking what characterizes relations between them: distance or proximity? From a historical perspective and exploiting notions of “high politics” and “low politics,” this paper displays how both dynamics are present and are inseparable in all dimensions of Mexico-Canada relations, although they follow rhythms that are distinct and sometimes even contradictory.

The organization and expansion of international sport during the 20th century was anchored mainly in the political and economic involvement of nation states, motivated by their representation in sports competitions through the intermediation of the National Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees. However, the political and sports-based conflict of the Cold War, the questioning of the hegemonic role of the state as the center of International Relations, as well as the crisis faced by major sports events, has led to the current undermining of the centrality of the role of the state in international sport.
