The physical punishment of minors has been a common practice in parental discipline for centuries. In recent times, different strategies have been developed for its eradication. Among them, raising awareness among the population about the risks, and proposing alternative forms of discipline. In this paper, we analyse the context and the persuasive features used in awareness campaigns issued at the institutional level in Spain for this purpose and its effectiveness. We have concluded that there is a need to promote the development of campaigns of this type through the media, providing them with greater reach in order to improve their effectiveness, and offering educational strategies as an alternative to physical punishment for the purpose of making these types of strategies real instruments in changing attitudes.

Do candidates use Twitter to communicate more directly with their electorate? In this investigation, we question the quantitative and qualitative way in which this social network was used by the main candidates during the Spanish electoral campaigns of 2011 and 2015. The aim is to establish whether there is a digital gap between the candidates of the “old” and “new” politics. Quantitatively, we analysed tweets, retweets, replies, followers/followings, and “likes”. Qualitatively, we analysed the informative, deliberative and participative way in which candidates used this network. The results show that there is no digital gap, and that candidates were far from proposing innovative strategies for establishing more direct communi- cation with voters.

Science communication offices (SCOs) are common departments in research centers and their work has been favored by the increasing availability of online tools. This work study the impact reached in digital newspapers by the Spanish Science Culture and Innovation Units (UCC+i), a specific type of SCO focused on the dissemination of scientific culture to citizens. A mixed methodology content analysis and qualitative observation is applied on a sample of 3619 news items from 19 Spanish digital newspapers between January and September 2016. Results suggest that UCC+i become a key actor to assure public visibility of research centers in regional and local newspapers. Also that digital media with low resources depend informatively on them.

The main purpose of this article is to analyse the framing elements of the way newspaper editorials dealt with two terms related to religions (“Benedict XVI” and “full headscarf”), using a corpus of editorials published in 2009 and 2010 by four Spanish newspapers, with a view to identifying the ideological framework adopted by these newspapers as they dealt with the theme of religion in the public square. The result shows a noticeable correlation between the ideological framework of the newspapers and the arguments put forward in their respective editorials. When focussing on the Catholic religion, the editorials analysed show radically different ideological positions, with a more noticeable polarisation between El País and ABC, and a less partisan and clearcut approach between La Vanguardia and El Periódico. On the other hand, when dealing with the issue of the headscarf and, by extension, with the Islamic religion, the difference in the approaches adopted by ABC and El País are less noticeable. And rather interestingly, the use of framing shows up some additional approaches in relation the headscarf in both La Vanguardia and El Periódico which are not to be found in the other two newspapers.

This article addresses the usefulness of audience metrics and the tools for developing communicative practices of Inbound Marketing in the digital environment. The objectives of this article are to identify what new indicators audience metrics are using, determine the data they provide for inbound marketing practices, assess how data allows contents to be tested and plan them. For this purpose, the central measurement tools were identified and the services they offer as well as the metrics that allow user behavior and emotions regarding messages to be detected, enabling content testing and planning accordingly to attract and retain audience attention and foster loyalty. The conclusions reveal how new metrics are reshaping the way in which contents are produced and distributed, making them indispensable tools for identifying the capacity to attract, retain, satisfy and create loyal users. Data analysis has become a tool in which practical aspects intersect with emotional ones, allowing the experience and the emotion beyond habit to be quantified, as well as enabling contents to be planned, adapting them to users’ requirements.

With drone journalism it is possible to obtain aerial images in situations that are difficult to cover, with perspective, speed, mobility, greater safety for journalists, and at a lower cost. In this paper, an attempt is made to analyse the opportunities offered by the use of drones for news production in Spain, where an emerging industry has been detected. This is followed by a debate on the circumstances and causes behind their slow incorporation into newsroom routines, such as the cost of investing in a technology with a short lifetime due to its constant evolution and high accidentrates, the technical and administrative complexity involved, thelack of specialized journalists, and restrictive laws which, until only recently, limited filming to rural areas.

The aim of this paper is to identify some of the narrative resources being used in immersive features to increase in the viewer the sensation of being inside the represented reality represented. In order to do, so we have used a blended methodology based on content analysis and in depth interviews with their creators, to perform a comparative analysis between 2 Spanish projects. The selected features are “En la piel de un refugiado” (“In the skin of a refugeee”), published by El Confidencial in 2016 and “Fukushima, vidas contaminadas” (“Fukushima, polluted lives”), also published that year by El País. Results indicate the coincidence in the use of some narrative techniques, but also great differences when using other resources. This fact certifies the experimental nature of this type of contents.

There is currently an essential social debate concerning the proliferation of fake news in the media and on social networks, primarily due to the deterioration that it poses to democratic systems in general and journalism. For this reason, studies on journalism and communication face the challenge of urgently reconceptualizing a phenomenon that has always existed but has recently resurged in the current media environment. In this context, theory and practice have emerged from the recent subfield known as news literacy. We briefly examine state of the art from a conceptual point of view. We review the recent and classic theories regarding fake news based on a review of the main bibliography on the subject. In conclusion, we propose a conceptual basis that can bridge the cited theories and the practice of news literacy in the broader framework of media literacy policies.

Immersive narratives are based on 360º recording techniques and virtual reality; both resources allow for creating the feeling of being there. Although virtual reality is characterized by interaction, immersion and imagination, in 360º videos the interaction with the environment is limited to the receiver’s choice of the angle of view. So, does the user have an active role or does he/she maintain his/her condition of passive observer in this kind of content? This study analyzes the strategies followed by the Radiotelevisión Española’s laboratory of innovation on its content in order to generate the illusion of presence. The aim is to link the immersion on stage with the conversion of the user into an active actor in the story.
