Chondroblastoma (CB) is a rare benign bone tumor that represents between 1% to 2% of all primary bone tumors. Because only about 4% of them are located in the talus, the literature is scarce. We present the case of an 18-year-old male patient who presented with a chondroblastoma located in the right talus. He had an uneventful recovery, with no complications at his last follow-up at 15 months. We also reviewed the published literature to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of chondroblastoma in the talus.

The vertebral location of a lesion compatible with an osteoid osteoma often requires a marginal en bloc resection. Our objective is to present the use of 3D printing technology for the development of specific cutting guides that achieve a safe and complete resection of an L1 osteoid osteoma. We present the case of a 13-year-old male who underwent surgery for an L1 osteoid osteoma, detailing the preoperative planning assisted by 3D technology, the surgical technique using 3D printed cutting guides, a real model of the lumbar spine, and the postoperative control. Conclusion: Before the surgical indication of a lesion compatible with an osteoid osteoma in the spine, we must decide between the possibility of an open intralesional resection or percutaneous and marginal en bloc resection. Different methods can be used for the intraoperative location of the lesion. In our department, we use 3D technology for preoperative planning of multiple acute and post-traumatic pathologies. This allows us to be precise and safe in the identification of intraoperative resection margins, minimizing the removal of healthy tissues and avoiding postoperative instability.

This paper examines the resurgence of ‘ollas comunes' in the context of slow disaster for COVID-19 in Puente Alto, a municipality in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Using the DROP model to conceptualise community disaster resilience, we investigate how local characteristics (namely, vulnerability levels and the natural, social and built environment) contribute to the development of these initiatives. First, using ArcGIS, we geolocate the ollas comunes in Puente Alto and create vulnerability maps at the neighbourhood scale; second, we use satellite imagery from Google Earth to examine the built environment; finally we rely on news portal and Instagram social media posts to investigate local social dynamics. We find that 80% of the ollas comunes are in areas with high vulnerability levels, where the pandemic dramatically decreased incomes, making it prohibitive for many families to buy food. Furthermore, we notice that certain patterns in the urban texture seem to favour a collective response to the crisis, aided by the strength of pre-existing social networks and the efficient use of social media. We build on these results to develop a critical discussion of the DROP model, and to argue for the importance of public policies supporting people’s right to access food.

The study presented in this article, carried out in the beginning of March 2020, that is, before the declaration of an emergency in the city of São Paulo, under the USP Global Cities Program of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo, aimed at proposing tactical actions and strategies to contain the spread of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the territory of the city, through the application of the Methodology in Projective Strategies – MEP. Based on this macro reading, we chose the Favela de Paraisópolis, located in the Capão Redondo sector, to simulate scenarios and develop possible epidemic containment strategies for Covid-19. This territory was chosen due to the characteristics of its population, its demands and its connectivity with the rest of the city of São Paulo. To contain an epidemic, it is essential to subvert the relationship between the reaction time and the containment actions supported by the territory. Given the special situation of social vulnerability, it is important that the territory is prepared for emergency action, by preparing a study on local public health needs.

This paper has analyzed the degree of specialization that the Chilean regions in the forestry and agricultural sector during the period 2005-2015. For this purpose, data from companies belonging to the sector has been used and a methodology is proposed that combines various tools of the regional economy to measure the degree of specialization and similarities between regions, and the econometric model of panel data to determine if the specialization degree affects the level of production in the sector. From the analysis it was possible to determine that there are differences between regions in terms of specialization degree on the sector, identifying a typology of four regions: regions that present a relevant role at the national level; regions that have achieved a high degree of specialization in the sector, but with a diversified economy; regions that present an emerging participation; and regions with a marginal participation in the sector, highlighting the regions of O'Higgins, Maule, Araucanía and Los Ríos for their high degree of specialization. The conclusion is that the degree of specialization in the sector affects the growth of the sector's GDP at the regional level. This information can be used to design decentralized sectoral public policies that take into account regional differences and are capable of adapting to the degree of specialization of Chile's regions.

San José, capital of Costa Rica, has been characterized by its centralized political and economic spaces. Despite this, after the 1980s, the city underwent a process of depreciation that favored the consolidation of an extended urbanization. In the mid-1990s, an interest arose to reinvest in San José, with the aim of including the networks of investment and attraction. This article develops a study about this historical-geographical process that served as the basis for the generation of a project to conquer the city in the early 2000s. For this, a documentary research investigation was carried out including a specialized bibliography, reports and public policies. It concludes that the formulated program lays the foundations for the creation of an exclusive city.

Wetlands vegetation systems have high vulnerability due to hydrologic changes. The objective of this study was to describe the spatiotemporal changes in the physiognomy of a wetland vegetation’s by variations on its water streaming. For this purpose, a model was developed based on remote perception of a high-altitude Andean wetland vegetation's located southwest of the Michincha salt flat (Tarapacá Region, 4100 masl.). We used flora-vegetatiom records, vegetation coverages was obtained from supervised classification of high and medium satellite images resolutions during the period 1985-2019 and trend analysis of the vegetational activity according to multiespectral Landsat’s index NDVI and WETNESS. The results showed important physiognomic vegetation’s changes on time, such us the replacement of a high Andean peatland vegetation's to a mixture of wet meadow and grassland at first, later, into areas with stubble and finally in units of wet meadow and grassland, remaining dead vegetation. The implemented model is based on multitemporal analysis of historical satellite images, validated with flora-vegetation observed records. These results allow us to understand the effect of hydric variations in high-altitude wetlands and guide measures according to its protection and conservation.

In this article, we expose and analyze the characteristics of the land reform in the provinces of Malleco and Cautin from 1962 to 1989 with special attention to the device that produced the greatest social and political agitation among peasants and land owners, although in opposite direction: expropriations. By digitizing and analyzing the 707 expropiations files of both provinces during the land reform, we conclude, among other ideas, that expropriation ambition of the Land Reform Corporation during Allende’s government pushed to the limit the legal framework by the intervention of a significant number of productive medium-sized farms allegedly occupied by their workers. The above was used by their former owners to defend the irregularity of land interventions during revisions procedures and contributes to clarify the outstanding legal-administrative success of the regional farmers in the restitution of their lands (47% of cases in the region vs. 28.7% of cases at the national level).
