The connection between geometry and architectural form, that had already begun to be questioned from the crisis of the Modernity, presents new possibilities after the intervention of digital media during the process of architectural design. Starting with the dialectic established between Frampton and Banham, when the further reviewed the book The Architecture of the Well-Tempered Environment and with the concepts structural frame and pragmata, which summarize the positions of both respectively, the present article aims to analyze the state of the relationship geometry-form in the contemporary architecture. To this end, six manifestoes written between 1995 and 2004 will be taken as sample of the most relevant concepts developed in this period, considered as a key to completely understand the transformation from analog to digital design applied to architecture, until reaching the paradox that defines this geometry-form relationship currently.

The theories developed concerning the relationship between music and drawing by the composer Pierre Boulez and the artist Paul Klee offer the possibility of exploring sound using graphic tools. Following their intuitions, to resolve the problems set by representing a soundscape, the use of spatial intermediaries is proposed: imaginative machines that enable the structure in the sound dimension of a landscape to be made visible. The piece Casa de la lluvia and the design methods of the Spanish architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg sustain the belonging of these artefacts as necessary means for formulating the definition of the soundscape as a perceptual space, along with its application in order to achieve a deep and sensitive knowledge that finds an outlet in a natural relationship between the individual and the landscape.

In the sixties, several Netherlander architects produced work identified as Dutch Structuralism. A lack of internal cohesion and divergences among the different authors, have led to a reading of their work from a more purely architectural perspective, with some of the aspects that are characteristic of the social sciences, being relegated to a less relevant position. Those aspects, are however, considered of the utmost importance to correctly comprehend some of the buildings and writings. Since the boost that this subject has received in the last years has been strictly focused on the compositional side, it is considered imperative that a transversal-nature review of the theoretical principles and influences is made, to provide the basis for future assessments.

In Le Corbusier’s Carpenter Center, we find uncommon frameworks for architectural conditions. In abstraction, certain operations in the design process emerge that allow for detailed readings revealed through the pragmatic strategy of stacking horizontal structures, which transcends the properties of both verticality and horizontality and leads to lightness. The optical lightness, rooted in the generation of form resulting from applying operations involving plane symmetry groups along with Le Corbusier’s five points of architecture, makes it possible for a construction in exposed concrete and glass to be understood as light, in a traditional sense.

An ancient Japanese legend tells that an exceptionally beautiful princess named Orihime, the king of the stars’ daughter, was dedicated from sun to sun to embroider wonderful fabrics close to the Amanogawa river side. She did not have time to meet anyone because of her commitment with the labor. Worried about his daughter’s sick obsession with work, the king arranged a meeting between her and Hikoboshi, a handsome shepherd in charge of caring the king’s stars, hoping he would serve as a dis- traction for his daughter. When they met, they both fell in love and soon they got married. However, after the wedding, Orihime became unconcerned about her work and Hikoboshi did the same with the flock of stars. Therefore, the stars scattered through the sky.

Access Google Maps and search for Manhattan. Down to the low East Side, in Loisaida, you will discover an amazing green network of gardens all over New York ́s grid. Since the sixties, several urban agents, citizens, neighbours, artists and architects, such as Matta- Clark or Fuller, have reinvented Central Park ́s city. Currently, about fifty self-managed and independent community gardens consti- tute an informal collaborative network that combines ‘affection’ and ‘dissidence’. These gardens create unexpected low-tech, codi- fied and connected areas, or ‘affect-dent’ areas. These vernacular and kitsch architectures transform the city giving new meanings to public space. They hover between popular ornament and mate- rial optimization. Community gardens face the real-estate market and the mediatic invasion of the public from the private sector. ‘Affect-dent’ spaces appears as a reference of contemporary archi- tecture of the common.

Both the Cistercian abbeys and the buildings of the PPO in Vitoria, Salamanca and Pamplona designed by Julio Cano Lasso and Alberto Campo Baeza, share a characteristic that makes them very close to contemporary sensibility. Their approach to a basic geometric scheme allows them to introduce the characteristic of perfectibility, of possible modification and extension over time, without losing coherence, identity and unity of departure from the use of typological hybridization mechanisms. They are buildings that present themselves as a frozen state within an evolutionary process. Like the monasteries of the European Middle Ages, they are perfectly capable of absorbing, without changing their essential structure, enlargements and reductions. They are structures designed to be able to mutate without losing the legibility of their original typological genes, both when they are constructed in different locations and when once built, undergo modifications or extensions..

The discourse of modernity in Spanish post-war architecture was simultaneously followed by the visual record of the architectural works in which the night image plays an essential role. The research is based upon the acknowledgement of the American influence on Spanish post-war modern architecture, and through a deep comparison between night photographs of two of these pioneering works: Catasús House by Coderch, and Banco Popular Branch Office by Ortiz-Echagüe and Echaide, versus their equivalent ones in the United States, the Kaufmann House by Neutra and the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank by SOM. Thus, it may be probed, not only the fidelity to foreign model but also, the originality of the emerging Modernism appeared in the second half of the fifties in Spain.
