The principal purpose of this contribution is to analyze, from a combined historical-juridical perspective, the incidence of exilium within the Roman Army during a particular moment both very convulsive and of a growing importance of it: the final decades of the sixth century and the first one of the seventh; with the aim of trying to consider whether there was a direct cause-effect relationship between both phenomena..

Among the historical antecedents of Aragonese civil law, the influence, mainly, of Roman, Visigoth, Frank and Alto-Aragonese customs is detected. Traditionally, Aragonese law has wielded its anti-Romanism, since some of its most representative institutions are foreign to Roman law, in the same way that some Roman legal institution has not been accepted in historical Aragonese law, nor does it exist in its current law. However, we cannot ignore that the current Aragonese Law is the result of a historical trajectory in which the Roman-canonical incidence is more than considerable, which allows to sustain, without thereby abjuring its peculiarity and identity stamp, the overcoming of the antagonistic dialectic between Roman law and Aragonese civil law, even more if we take into account the need to rebuild European legal science against the hard work of unifying European private law..

This paper analyzes the legal regime of the discussores, officials present since the Later Empire, whose tasks were mainly of tax inspection and intervention, among others collected in the sources. Their main rights and obligations and the measures established by imperial regulations to prevent and sanction possible abuses are examined here. In the last section it is briefly analyzed the survival of these officials in the Byzantine Empire and in some of the kingdoms that followed the fall of the Western Roman Empire..

Within the framework of studies on accessibility, this article proposes to address the conditions offered by public transportation —understood as a structure of opportunities that provides access to urban goods and services—, taking the Greater Buenos Aires as spatial universe. Based on a Google tool that collects data from the public transport network in its multiple modes, an indicator is constructed (travel time to the city center) which allows working on a metropolitan scale and, at the same time, provide an account of the microspatial differentials configured within it, in a cross talk with urban expansion processes and the patterns of socio-economic spatial distribution. Thus, it is observed that the unequal way in which public transport networks are distributed configures a restrictive structure of opportunities for the population residing in peripheral areas of the agglomerate and in the interstices of its growth axes, contributing to the reproduction of socio-spatial inequalities.

Walking down a street is not the same as going out for a walk. One of the differences is that by going out for a walk it is possible to empathize with the city façades. Through a qualitative and comparative analysis of the perceptions and urban imaginaries of young adults, we propose to analyze how they understand walking through the different streets of the Lima neighborhoods of Lince, Jesús María, and Santa Beatriz, which are experiencing physical changes in their streets due to the expansion of the real estate market. It was revealed that the disposition to empathize with façades was related to an idea of life that was used as a differentiating factor, and which included attributes of location, visibility, variety, sense of community, and historicization. Therefore, when there was greater disposition to empathize with the streets, walking acquired a new character and people did go out for a walk.

Chilean real estate financialization is explored from the perspective of the subsidiary State, the programmatic development of housing policies and the leading role that indebtedness has assumed as a mechanism and as a possibility of social distinction. For these purposes, a general review is made of the general transformations of capitalism, in order to position the financial. Within this framework, housing has played a key role both as an asset and as a form capable of absorbing surpluses. Based on this, general statistics are analyzed at the banking and subsidiary level on housing and focusing on the documentary analysis of the texts that provide legal support and programmatic direction to them and to the current National Urban Development Policy. From this point, the subsidy instrument is discussed, together with the relationships it articulates with indebtedness, and the current paradigm of social integration is criticized. The conclusion presents a reading of Chilean neoliberalism, which, at least in its spatial and housing facets, depends on mechanisms of institutional viability for its survival.

In recent decades, Latin America has shown the impacts and effects of the process of housing financialization. This phenomenon, however, has not been homogeneous, as its development has been determined by the political and corporate trajectories that financial capitalism has undertaken in each region. In line with this observation, this article proposes a comparative analysis of the situations in Chile and Venezuela. These countries have represented distinctive models of development: while Chile adheres to neoliberal policies, Venezuela embraces the socialism of the Bolivarian Revolution. In order to carry out this analysis, a comparative methodology weas proposed based on diverse axes of analysis. The results reveal the trajectories and models of financial capitalism developed in Chile and Venezuela. It is concluded that both countries present different levels of integration to the dynamics of housing financialization: Chile evinces an advanced insertion, whilst Venezuela exhibits a limited integration to this process. The latter country, like an important number of cases in the region, would express the varieties of financialization present in Latin America, enabling a broader discussion about the characteristics that this process would assume in this geography of the Global South.

The article examines the process of verticalizing the municipality of Estación Central, focusing on the link between the tenure structure (ownership) and the deployment of a specific type of internal governance. Through a qualitative approach, the building is observed as an object of governance, inquiring into the elements that shape the internal governance of the five towers with the highest level of precariousness in the physical characteristics of the building, within the polygon with the highest real estate development in the municipality. The results indicate that the construction of the internal governance of the towers is based on the conformation of the real estate business triangle, a figure made up of the three areas of participation that real estate companies exercise in residential production: construction, investment (rent) and administration. This triad of spheres of participation not only represents the expansion of a business model, but also defines the basis of a particular form of governance, a scheme in which density of ownership implies density of power, revealing that, rather than dealing with the business of housing, we are dealing with the business of inhabiting.

Women play a major but undervalued role in the production of their habitat, especially if this is self-constructed. They struggle to secure land tenure, attract services and public facilities, and manage resources to consolidate their houses. However, women’s direct participation in housing construction is reduced because it is a task reserved for men. The Limones and Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhoods in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, share a story led by women who organized to build their homes and formalize their land. Using these neighborhoods as case studies, this work analyzes the way in which the layers of disadvantage that women endure in peripheral contexts promote the insurgence of counter conducts that seek to improve the built context. This qualitative work employed interviews, perceptual instruments, and temporal schemes, to collect participants’ narratives. Main findings suggest that, through acts of resistance, the women in these neighborhoods moved between the political and the ethical to participate in the production of the city, conquer the parochial sphere, make themselves heard in the public sphere, associate with other women, negotiate their roles, and reinforce their self-concept to proclaim themselves as self-help builders.

There is no doubt that the cultural and social understanding of gender has influenced the way that spaces are designed and used, imbuing them with imposed roles and stereotypes, according to the activities carried out in them. This research proposes a methodology for analyzing the housing unit in the collective housing project from a gender perspective. The aim of the work is to conduct a critical analysis of Spanish contemporary housing to offer a self-assessment tool to validate the design of egalitarian housing in accordance with a multidimensional approach. To this end, a series of parameters have been identified in order to visualize imbalances, inequalities or even subordination in the use of domestic spaces. Afterwards, the method has been tested in a series of case studies, the paradigmatic production of public housing in Madrid during the decade 2000-2010. The results show the shortcomings and contributions of the projects studied, which helps us to generate a catalogue of effective design strategies when it comes to proposing egalitarian housing that is sensitive to domestic tasks.
