Resumen
Introduction: the bony atrophy of the maxillary ridge is always a limitation to install dental implants. The Ridge Split procedure proves to be a successful technique to perform the management of horizontal defects, increasing the dimensions of the atrophic ridge to immediately install dental implants. Aim: to describe the clinical use of the Ridge Split technique as a treatment for bone augmentation in the horizontal direction of the atrophic maxilla. Case presentation: the case of a female patient of 61 years of age, partially edentulous, who seeks to recover her upper teeth was presented. The clinical examination shows only two teeth and the radiographic-tomographic examination showed severe bone resorption and pneumatization of the maxillary sinuses. It is planned to install two implants to make an over denture, using the Ridge Split technique and immediate installation of the implants. Five months later, a tomographic control was performed evidencing a horizontal increase of the alveolar ridge and it was rehabilitated with an overdenture, with which the patient's aesthetic and functional compliance was achieved. Conclusion: the presented case reveals that this technique increases the bone ridge in horizontal direction and allows to install the implants simultaneously. It is a predictable, safe and comfortable treatment, and shortens the treatment time, making it a viable alternative for the management of alveolar bone defects.

Resumen
Dental pain is usually managed by clinical interventions and pharmacological coadjuvants such as NSAIDs. However, its perception and modulation is mediated by different nociceptive mechanisms and these strategies can be insufficient. The multimodal analgesia refers to the use of 2 or more analgesic drugs that attenuate or blockade different mechanisms of pain, obtaining a greater clinical effect. Within this concept, pharmacological synergism plays a leading role, combining different molecules in lower doses to diminish also side effects. Since there are no standard prescriptions to be use in all the patients, multimodal approaches allow the clinician to make responsible effective combinations, individualizing analgesia as the pathway to success.

Resumen
Dental trauma, mainly from the anterior area of the mouth in the incisor teeth at the level of the radicular third, has the extraction of the dental organ as an elective treatment, depending on the severity of the lesion and the site where it presented. This paper reports two cases: one in a young 13-year-old male patient with dental trauma in central incisors, and another in an 18-year-old female patient with radicular reabsorption in central incisors. Both were treated using trans-endodontic implants on teeth 2.1 and 1.1-2.2 each case, respectively. The treatment approach proposed for each case provided good functional and esthetic outcomes. Clinical and radiographic results after 1 year were successful.

Resumen
Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) is an early childhood mental health disease characterized by impaired social interactions and communication abilities, and neurological deficits in the child’s developing brain. This disorder can significantly affect the pediatric patient’s behavior in the dental setting. An uncooperative 9-year-old Mexican girl, who was residing in a temporary home, was referred by a general dental practitioner to the Postgraduate Pediatric Dental Clinic with her caretaker, requesting dental examination and treatment. The patient presented with a previous diagnosis of RAD with intellectual/social disability. With the psychiatrist’s guidance, an exhaustive oral prophylaxis was carried out in the initial appointments, followed by diverse restorative treatments under the continuous application of behavioral management techniques. These restorative procedures included resin restorations and pit-fissure sealants, under local anesthesia and rubber-dam isolation, on the first four permanent molars. The entire treatment was completed in six weeks. The patient and her caretaker were provided with detailed educational and motivational strategies for improving the patient´s oral hygiene, and they also received nutritional advice. For control reviews and the reinforcement of preventive habits, future appointments were carefully scheduled. An interdisciplinary pediatric collaboration between the dentist, nurse, and psychiatrist was fundamental for improving the patient’s oral health and general welfare.

Resumen
Thymomas are the most common mediastinal neoplasms in adults. Patients with thymoma are frequently diagnosed with paraneoplastic syndromes and are generally associated with several autoimmune conditions. Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder, characterized by the lymphocyte-mediated destruction of the exocrine glands, which leads to the absence of glandular secretion, particularly salivary and lacrimal; hyposalivation can vary from a slight reduction in the flow of saliva with transient discomfort, to a serious deterioration of oral health and psychological distress. Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a chronic, autoimmune disease that shows predominant mucosal involvement, most commonly affecting the oral cavity, followed by the conjunctiva, the nasal cavity and the esophagus; intraorally includes scaly gingivitis, vesicles, erosions covered by pseudomembranes and ulcers. The objective of this work is to present the first case of a patient with a history of thymoma, which, jointly presented SS and MMP; also highlight the importance of multidisciplinary management for an accurate and early diagnosis, as this increases the efficiency and efficacy of the treatment strategy.

Resumen
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to three different bulk fill composites which were previously aged. Materials and Methods: Three bulk fill composite materials were included in this study (Filtek Bulk Fill, Tetric N-Ceram bulk fill, SureFil SDR bulk fill). Each material group contained 12 samples (n=12); a total of 36 samples were bonded in the same way with maxillary premolar brackets (CB; Avex Mx, OPAL orth.). The same type brackets were bonded on each restored surface made with bulk fill composites. The SBS was examined after storing the specimens for 24 h at 37 ºC indistilled water, followed by thermal ageing (500 cycles between 5 ºC and 55 ºC). Data were analyzed statistically. The numeric data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Tukey HSD post-hoc tests at α=.05. Results: There were no significant differences among the composite groups (p>0.001). However, SBS values for control group were significantly greater than shear bond strenght values for composite groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: Bond strength of orthodontic brackets on bulk fill composite surfaces was not found adequate. Therefore, this situation leads to bonding failure during orthodontic treatment. The presence of bulk fill composites on the surface to be bonded during orthodontic treatment requires an additional armamentarium.

Resumen
Composite resins are excellent materials for direct restorations in the posterior region, satisfactorily reestablishing esthetics and function. Recently, a new class of composites has been commercialized, the so-called Bulk-fill resins. These resins may be inserted in the dental cavity in increments of 4 to 5 mm thick, and have the advantages of reducing polymerization shrinkage and clinical working time. The aim of this case report was to describe the use of bulk-fill composite resins to restore Class I and Class II cavities by means of two different restorative techniques.

Resumen
Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCL) are a current problem of multifactorial origin that is associated with the loss of vertical occlusal dimension, hypersensitivity, loss of teeth, fractures, and many other pathologies that affect the masticatory function of the oral cavity. Identification of the etiological factors of NCCL comprises a key piece for the solution of the problem. Based on clinical scientific evidence related with the diagnosis, a restorative treatment must be planned according to the loss of dental structure in order to return function and aesthetics. The purpose of this case report was to describe a 54-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with generalized NCCL combined with occlusal vertical dimension loss. The protocol of the treatment process is described.

Resumen
The purpose of this preliminary study is to evaluate the push-out bond strength (PBS) of experimental dentin posts (EDPs) obtained from human and bovine teeth sterilized by autoclaving and gamma radiation. Eighty-four mandibulary premolars were obturated and divided into three post groups: the glass fiber group (Fb) human EDP group (Hm) and the bovine EDP group (Bv). Three subgroups (n=12) were obtained for each EDP groups according to the sterilization methods; no sterilization (Cnt), steam autoclaving (Aut), and gamma radiation (Rad) a total dose of 25 kGy. All posts were cemented to root canals using a dual cured resin cement (Panavia SA). After the micro slices (1mm in thickness) were obtained of each subgroup, PBS test was performed. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple comparison tests (α=.05). The post type and sterilization method was significantly effective on the PBS values according to the ANOVA (P<.001). No sterilization apllied EDP groups showed significantly higher PBS values than the sterilized groups (P<.001). Bv_Cnt (9.42 ±1.31) showed significantly lower PBS values than both Fb (12.36 ±1.54) and Hm_Cnt (11.06 ±1.38) groups (P<.001). Both steam autoclaving and gamma radiation affect the PBS values and fracture modes of EDPs negatively. The bovine EDPs are not as effective as human EDPs with regard to the PBS to the root dentin.

Resumen
To describe the relationship of oral diseases and nutritional status in high school students. A total of 203 high school students were evaluated nutritionally and orally according to the World Health Organization (WHO). A descriptive analysis, frequency, average tables, and a statistical analysis (Spearman correlation test) were performed with SPSS ver. 22 statistical software for Windows. Nutritionally, 146 students showed a normal Body Mass Index (BMI), six had malnutrition, 41 had overweight, and 10 had obesity. In the oral evaluation, the average number of caries was 3.08 ± 2.78, malnutrition showed 3.6, overweight 2.75, and obesity, 2.9. The risk of caries can be increases the greater the age, height, weight, skin-fold thickness, and periodontal disease. There is no significant statistical correlation between oral diseases and nutritional issues; however, qualitative analyses of patients with dental loss or oral diseases express significant deficiencies in their nutritional health.
