The article analyses the potential that the technological disaggregation has for the generation of public policies that encourage innovation, as a technical tool for the assimilation of technology. Mechanisms that the countries of the region use to promote innovation and that allow the development of products in order to move from an extractive economy to one focused on innovative services are considered. The main problem found at the regional level is the lack of regulations and excessive bureaucracy that do not promote innovative and technological environments.

This work seeks to determine the degree of knowledge and practice of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in SMEs in Salinas, Santa Elena. This tourist destination in the new province of Santa Elena in Ecuador has a small but dynamic local business sector in order to contribute to the development of its community. Through surveys applied to SMEs, CSR indicators were qualitatively assessed. The results indicate that CSR is more practiced by the entrepreneur’s values than by a conscious and systematic effort, which limits its impact on the development of the community.

The article makes a critical analysis of the theoretical and empirical work on the relationship between entrepreneurial capital and economic growth. For this, a review of the entrepreneurship literature between 2004 and 2014 is carried out; based on the research questions on the impact of entrepreneurial capital on economic growth and the conceptualization and modes of operationalization of entrepreneurial capital, based on ten international indicators. The article suggests that entrepreneurial capital has a positive impact on economic growth, which is very sensitive to diversity, ambiguity and insufficiency of the different ways of operating it.

The aim of this article is to reflect on the organizational analysis based on metaphors following the line of Gareth Morgan and two of them are proposed that compare the organization, either as a machine or as a biopsychic organism, in order to have a better understanding of the adaptive dynamics that organizations have with their environment. The metaphor is an instrument that helps the understanding of contemporary organizations characterized by a high degree of complexity and that are being affected by a changing and increasingly uncertain environment. It also raises the idea of a double metaphor of the organization: as if it were a machine and a biopsychic organism simultaneously.

The article focuses on the lack of EGONG programs in matters related to transparency and accountability in the case of Ecuador, and how the existing demand is being addressed by the organizations themselves but it is not being visualized by the university sector. Three principal discoveries are identified: first of all, generating alliances was essential to addressing the limited supply of formal EGONG programs; the potential for the replication of knowledge was one of the objectives on the studied process, and the evaluation of the processes of the programs was fundamental to energize new programs.

Business ecosystems have become stronger in recent years due to the strengths they have in favor of the development of the entrepreneurial spirit and the creation of new companies; however, the literature on business ecosystems is still scarce. This research starts from the design of an enterprise ecosystem to determine the components that should conform it, how they should be related to interact in an organized manner and what the actions to be executed should be.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine-metabolic dysfunction that affects 6 to 10% of women of reproductive age. It is characterize by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism and the presence of metabolic complications such as obesity, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease and fatty liver. The objective of this research was to characterize the endocrine-metabolic and anthropometric profile in a group of patients diagnosed with PCOS. The population consisted of 81 patients who attended the gynecologic clinic of the Urban Outpatient Type II "Dr. Ramón Gualdrón"from Barquisimeto-Lara State, of which only 50 patients met the criteria of the 2003 Rotterdam Consensus for the diagnosis of PCOS. According to the results of this study, the endocrine profile of the patients is characterized by normal levels of progesterone and free testosterone and insulin in the normal upper range; lipid profile within normal parameters as well as average values of uric acid; the HOMA Index indicated insulin resistance. Regarding the anthropometric profile, the patients were mostly overweight with a waist/hip index indicativeof an android type fatty distribution. In conclusion, the endocrine-metabolic and anthropometric profile observed corresponds to SOP, in which the state of insulin resistance shown by the HOMA index constitute the central pathophysiological axis.
