Resumen
Devotedly read and persistently criticized trough time, novels give rise to controversies and contribute to reflections and dialogues between authors and readers in different times. This work discusses this genre and its evolution, from the end of the 18th century, in Europe and America, to the early and mid-20th century. Which particular relationship did female readers of the past establish with novels? How was the debate about the aesthetic and moral value of a literary work handled? These questions will be explored attending to crossovers between literature, plastic arts and cinema in Argentina.

Resumen
This article explores the pathologization of popular beliefs in Argentina, at the turn of the of 19th century. It studies pathologization as part of a wider process of social control that fostered the identification of the “other” with the unconscious. For that, it analyses essays and articles that were published between the decades of 1880 and 1910. In these texts, catholic fanaticism, millenarian movements, quackery or popular sorcery, all reveal disturbing contact points with female hysteria, and with others forms of individual and collective pathology. Finally, this work analyses the way in which spiritualism approaches popular religiosity in a reading that puts into question former positivist interpretations.

Resumen
In the regional context of democratization in the access to cultural goods, a core aspect of Clarice Lispector's and Sara Gallardo's journalistic production reveals a common thread in the commentary and appropriation of aesthetic resources of the 1960's avant-gardes. The appeal to art as a reference to assess daily life is a communicational decision that operates, from the formal and thematic postulate, as the axis of their critical interventions in journalism. The article analyzes and compares the foundation for their artistic choices, as well as the discussion spheres where they hold their aesthetic contest and discuss the scope of the new modalities of cultural interaction.

Resumen
Drawing from a body of informal writing authored by Buenos Aires policemen between the late 19th and the early 20th centuries, this article deals with informal chronicles of detective investigation. It argues that in the context of the expansion of a literary imagination about detection, in the late 19th century, it was hard for policemen to build up a professional voice about the work of public detectives. Ultimately, their discourse was never completely free from the influence of literary voices. Moreover, the article reflects on the complex relationship between the police force, detective literature and police cultures.
