Chagas disease (ChD), caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is an endemic anthropozoonosis in Latin America, linked to deficientssocio-economic and cultural aspects and is considered one of the neglected tropical diseases. We report a fatal case of Chagas disease reactivation with central nervous system involvement in a patient with HIV infection, whose diagnosis was confirmedby positive PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test of blood, with treatment response efficien with benznidazol and management and etiologic treatment was difficuldue to limited number of antitrypanosomal drugs and the occurrence of frequent and serious adverse effects

Background: The rise of infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram negative bacilli (MDR-GNB), added to paucity of newer therapy, have led to increase polymyxin B use, despite adverse renal toxicity profile.Aim: To determine the incidence and risk factors associated to acute kidney injury (AKI) and polymyxin B use, in patients with infections caused by MDR-GNB.Methods: A retrospective cohort, with a nested case-control study of adults who received polymyxin B for more than 48 hours at a tertiary university hospital in Colombia (2011-2015) was performed. AKI was definedby AKIN criteria. Results: Of 139 patients included in our study, 102 were male with median age of 49 years (IQR:28-64). Sixty-one patients (44%) developed AKI. Independent risk factors for development of AKI included: total polymyxin B daily dose (OR = 2.19, 95% CI, 1.04-4.64); length of stay at ICU (OR = 1.03, 95% CI, 1.00-1.06); nosocomial infection (OR = 6.43, 95% CI, 2.12, -19.47); and vasopressor use (OR = 5.38, 95% CI, 2.40-12.07). Mortality was higher among AKI-patients (58.6%) compared with non-AKI patients (25.6%) (p = 0.001). Conclusion: In this study, the rate of AKI associated to polymyxin B use was greater than reported in studies from last decade, and associated with increased mortality. AKI associated to polymyxin B use is likely multifactorial and aggravated by the critically ill state of patients sufferingnosocomial infections caused by mdr-gnb.

In the field of veterinary medicine, terminology management is not standardized, because different actors intervene, generating inconveniences in the information consultation and in the processes of information collection and diagnosis of diseases. This paper presents the process of developing the ontology network: specification of requirements, application of NeOn Methodology, reuse of ontological and not - ontological resources, applied to knowledge of diseases in cattle. For the process of development of the network of ontologies, we counted on the support of veterinary doctors, experts in Mastitis Bovina that contribute their knowledge; Using computer tools and technologies, taking into account that the development meets the characteristics and that the integration of the different resources is obtained EnBovinos. Applying different scenarios of the methodology, there are resources that can be reused and in the same way to deliver a network of ontologies that can be used in other projects

Objective: The objective of this article is to estimate the probabilities of transition between different degrees of functional dependence, as well as the predictive capacity of this dependence for general mortality of women and men living in Mexico aged 65 and over. Methods: By means of probabilities, transitions between different degrees of functional dependence are calculated and, with proportional Cox risks models, the relative risks of mortality are estimated. Results: The results indicate that women are more likely to move from mild functional dependence to moderate or severe functional dependence than men. Likewise, women and men with severe functional dependence, assessed at the baseline, have higher relative risks of mortality than the mortality risks of individuals without functional dependence. Conclusion: There are differences in the probabilities of transition to functional dependence, noting that women are more likely to move to higher degrees of physical restraint than men. In this sense, having physical limitations in the development of basic activities of daily living increases mortality risks among Mexican elderly.

An Artificial Neural Network (RNA) was developed with capacity to make short-term climatic predictions, trained with data at intervals of 15 min for 454 days in a climatological station located in La Hechicera Mérida-Venezuela (1896 masl). For training and validation, were used simulated patterns that contain daily variations of radiance and temperature. Three test functions were chosen such as the Sine, Cosine and the Legendre Polynomials Pl(x). The (RNA) e.g, can predict the interval (0,1] using only as input the interval [-1,0] of the corresponding derivative P´l (x)  of the polynomial. In the production phase with real data, it was found that the network is able to predict the temperature with approx. 5% error in the hourly range [12:15 to 06:15] pm, only with the temperature data in the range [6:00 to 12:00) am. Also, when predicting temperature from radiance (5%), radiance-radiance (16%). The use of (RNA) for the prediction of micro-climate in the short term is considered feasible, being able to extend its use to other localities, which could be useful for the development of disaster prevention plans, sowing periods, prediction of energy supply in wind and solar power stations.

This work specifies Autonomous Cycles (AC) of data analysis tasks, to optimize the Quality Of Services (QoS) on the Internet. The mechanisms to improve QoS on the Internet are important for Internet Service Providers (ISP). These mechanisms should be based on context analysis, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), the use of data mining and semantics, among others. The ACs of data analysis proposed in this work integrate these aspects, to perform tasks to improve QoS on the Internet, such as the task of classifying traffic on the network. In this paper the MIDANO methodology is used, to specify the two ACs that are proposed, one with the aim of improving the QoS on the Internet, and another with the objective of learning the traffic pattern in the network. In addition, this work implements the AC that improves the QoS on the internet. This AC monitors the state of Internet traffic, determines the behavior of applications, characterizes traffic patterns, generates traffic optimization rules, among other things, using DPI techniques, semantic mining, machine learning, among others.
