Resumen
This article presents and analyzes discourses of a group of children considered “vulnerable” about the influence of social class in school success or failure, in which meritocracy plays an important role. First, we analyzed the concept of meritocracy and its relationship to modernity and education. Then, we described the methodology used with the children, which provided information through a game of social identities. The analysis was accomplished through Critical Discourse Analysis, as we were also interested in observing and analyzing argumentative interactions. The results identify three discourses (“the small Bourdieu”, “the pessimist critics” and “the American dream”) and a predominant place of meritocracy as an explanatory factor of school success in the unprivileged social groups. Finally, we discuss the meritocratic discourses and their heavy burden in unequal societies such as the Chilean one.

Resumen
Problems inherited from the last decades have led Timor-Leste to restructure its pre-secondary – EPS – and general secondary – ESG – curricula. Considering the importance of an adequate vertical articulation throughout the schooling cycles and before the conclusion of the first complete edition of the EPS, it is necessary to study if such a curriculum is aligned with the one of the ESG, in particular with regard to Science and Technology. This article focuses on the analysis of the EPS curriculum and the evaluation of its articulation with the one of ESG. Notwithstanding the décalages among the prescribed, the implemented and the appropriate curricula, it is relevant to have a fine-tuning at this level to ensure good quality education and training, essential to achieve the millennium development goals.

Resumen
The article aims to investigate patterns of association between social origins and educational destinations in primary, secondary and higher education, throughout the modernization of Brazilian society. The analysis is based on the research agenda on educational transition models and on the international comparative agenda derived from it. Results of the estimation of educational transition models are presented, using demographic census data from 1960 to 2010, and the main findings evidence different inequality parameters by educational level – relative decline in primary education conclusion, persistent inequalities in the completion of secondary education and increasing inequalities in higher education entrance.

Resumen
This article proposes to think about on the relationship between Psychoanalysis and Education as a field of knowledge produced through educational praxis. The subjective knowledge intertwined in the educational act and the social ties produced in daily school life are structuring dimensions to the practice and the training of education professionals, regarding the subject’s relationship with desire and knowledge. In contrast to the traditional view of “applied to education” psychology, a different reading of psychoanalysis has contributed to thinking about the social bonds produced in the name of education as an open path for thinking over the implication of the subject in the training and teaching profession.

This article aims to present the results of an investigation into the Programa do Livro Didático para o Ensino Fundamental1 do Instituto Nacional do Livro – Plidef/INL. It was a co-edition system between the public and private sectors from 1971 to 1976. Based on the field concept of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, we sought to define what the historical and social conditions were which allowed the existence of the Plidef/INL field. Data were collected from documents of the executive and legislative branches, as well as reports from national journals. The results indicate sometimes troubling relations between the Plidef/INL field and the political, literary and educational spheres of influence.

Resumen
This article aims to investigate the reflexive use of mixed methods, i.e., those that combine quantitative and qualitative approaches in the same research in order to conduct the empirical stage of the study. After describing the general characteristics and main criticisms, we present the least number of elements that we believe should be made explicit in the use of mixed methods to ensure rigor in research and epistemological coherence. Later, we present an illustration of the operationalization and application of mixed methodologies in educational research that addresses professional difficulties that arise in the daily work of specialized agriculture teachers.

Resumen
This paper presents the theory of social representations as a model of social scientific theory. In doing so, it attempts to reconstruct the foundations of the theory of social representations by focusing on intellectual resources that were available to Serge Moscovici during the time he was developing the theory. These resources shaped his epistemology, and firmly distinguished the theory of social representations from other social psychological approaches. The focus on these intellectual resources draws attention to two issues. First, in contrast to what Moscovici often called ‘one or two sentence theories’ in social psychology based on the manipulation of variables, the theory of social representations is built on a rich set of presuppositions. Second, an explicit recognition of presuppositions of social representations in their application in professional practices like education, politics and health, among others, enables a unique contribution to social sciences and humanities.

The text addresses the legal academy and its fragmentation, relating them to the hybridization of professionalism. It considers the social diversification of professors – with the incorporation of women and racial difference – as confrontations, encounters and negotiations of identity differences that generate hierarchies and decentralizations. The purpose of the article is to show how these globally widespread processes decentralize the teaching profile, while at the same time they engender the stratification that intersects gender and race with titling, regional location, institutional types and working conditions. Indicators of this displacement, which neither eradicate inequality and domination nor restrict the reproduction of a fixed hegemonic pattern, are presented. The article is based on secondary data on law courses, taken from the National Higher Education Census of 2012, Inep, and illustrates the analysis with qualitative material.

Our goal is to understand two main factors related to professional choice: the profile of individuals who choose different occupations and the resulting differentiation of remuneration of these people based on their personal characteristics as well as their occupational choices. Using data from Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios – Pnad – 2013 (INSTITUTO BRASILEIRO DE GEOGRAFIA E ESTATÍSTICA – IBGE, 2014), we have concluded that there are significant differences in the personal characteristics of individuals who choose traditional occupations in addition to how they are remunerated. Although women who choose to work in male professions earn a salary, which is comparable to that of men, the salary gap is only reduced in traditional professions (law, engineering or medicine).

This article aims to discuss child care strategies developed by families, related to institutional and/or family care – the sharing of responsibilities between men and women in this care – as well as the combinations of such elements. The results show that the strategies are based on the family and women’s care-giving, leading thus to high proportions of women leaving the job market. Such leaving produces consequences with regard to women’s present and future economic autonomy. Women, as a result, individually assume the burden of care.
