Resumen
Introduction: student scientific journals reflect undergraduate scientific work. The analysis of the published scientific production allows to recognize the strengths and weaknesses. Objective: to describe the scientific production on immunohematology published in Cuban student scientific journals between January 2014 and December 2020.Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out through a bibliometric analysis of the articles published in Cuban RCE, related to immunohematology, in the period between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2020. A universe of 24 articles was studied. Descriptive statistics, Price index and number of corrected citations were used. Results: 3,05 % of the articles published were related to im; munohematology. Revista 16 de Abril was the most productive (50 %). The Artemisa province contributed the largest number (29,16 %). Articles with 3, 4 and 5 authors predominated (25 % for each one). No interprovincial collaboration was observed and all were published in the Spanish language. 91,66 % corresponded to clinical sciences. Original articles predominated (41,66 %). The highest Price Index was found in case/clinical case presentations (0,6). Only 12,5 % of the articles received citations. Conclusions: the scientific production on immunohematology in Cuban student scientific journals is scarce. Strategies are required to reinforce the visibility and impact of research, as well as the strengthening of interprovincial collaborations and the availability of studies in other languages.

Introduction: cleft palate predisposes to ear infections, hearing loss, speech and oral communication. Objective: to characterize the otologic affectations and speech disorders in children operated on for cleft palate. Methods: observational, descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study in 31 patients operated for alveolo-palatine clefts in the Maxillofacial Surgery Service at Pepe Portilla Provincial Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Pinar del Rio, between 2014 and 2020. A non-probabilistic intentional sampling was carried out, comprising a sample of 20 patients. Evaluation by Otolaryngology and Speech Therapy was carried out, as well as the review of clinical histories. Descriptive statistics was applied. Results: patients who presented incomplete fissures reached 55 % and 50 % of them received mixed feeding. The analysis of the quality of the surgical-orthodontic intervention assessed 75 % as good quality. Sixty percent of the patients presented ear infections, being of a very frequent type in 20 % of the cases; 35 % presented some degree of affectation of the auditory sphere and 80 % presented language disorders, the latter being mild in 40 %; and 55 % of the patients presented phonetic-auditory affectations, where 50 % of the cases presented good level of school learning and social-emotional adaptation. Conclusions: patients who underwent surgery for alveolo-palatal fissures presented mostly mild language and auditory alterations, with very frequent ear infections and phonetic-auditory affectation that influenced on their school-learning and social-emotional adjustment.

Resumen
Introduction: diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia, due to defects in insulin secretion or insulin action, or a combination of both, with great impact worldwide. Patients with diabetes mellitus are hospitalized 2.4 times more often than other patients. Objective: to identify epidemiological factors associated with the hospital stay of diabetic patients at the "Dr. Agostinho Neto" General Teaching Hospital between January and December 2021.Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out at the "Dr. Agostinho Neto" General Teaching Hospital from January to December 2021. In the statistical analysis, the variables age, sex, toxic habits, body mass index, physical activity, type of diabetes, glycemia figure at admission and comorbidities were extracted through the SPSS 23.0 statistical package. Descriptive indicators were obtained, as well as totals and percentages. Results: patients over 60 years of age (49,1 %), male (53,1 %), with type 2 diabetes mellitus (66,8 %), sedentary (76,4 %) and obese (42 %) predominated. The comorbidity with the highest incidence was dyslipidemia (27,9 %) and alcoholism (52 %). No association/risk was found between these variables and hospital stay. Conclusions: among diabetic patients, those with older age as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus were more prone to prolonged hospital stay.

Resumen
Introduction: Acute respiratory infections constitute a serious health problem as they are the main cause of infant morbidity and mortality in the world, mainly during the first year of life. Objective: To clinically and epidemiologically characterize complicated community pneumonias in children admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the "Pepe Portilla" Pediatric Hospital. Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out on 80 patients with pneumonia complicated by pleural effusion, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the "Pepe Portilla" Pediatric Hospital. Results: children from 0 to 4 years of age were more affected (77,5 %), with a slight predominance of the male sex (60 %). Fever and polypnea were present in 15 % of the patients' symptoms. Streptococcus pneumoniae (8,7 %) was the predominant germ in pleural fluid. The combination of antibiotics and fibrinolytics (91,3 %) was the predominant therapeutic combination. Sepsis was the most common complication (22,5 %). The length of stay with most patients was < 10 days (81,3 %).Conclusions: the most affected age group was 0-4 years of age, the predominant sex was male, the predominant symptoms were fever and polypnea, Streptococcus pneumoniae was the microorganism responsible for the appearance of this disease, the use of antibiotics plus fibrinolytics was necessary, sepsis predominated as the most severe complication and the hospital stay in said unit was less than 10 days.

Resumen
Introduction: cardiovascular health in the elderly constitutes a line of research of great value for the improvement of health services in primary health care. Objective: to identify the cardiovascular risk in older adults of the clinic No. 25 of the "5 de Septiembre" University Polyclinic, of Consolación del Sur, in the period from November 2019 to September 2022.Methods: an observational, analytical and prospective cohort study was carried out. The sample consisted of 176 patients by simple random sampling. One-factor analysis of variance, Student's t-test and Mann Whitney U test were used as inferential statistical tests, in addition to the Kaplan-Meier curve to predict event-free evolution. Results: 36,4 % of the adults were aged 80 to 89 years and 72,7 % had a moderate cardiovascular risk. A significant statistical association (p<0,001) was identified between age, sex, blood pressure, weight, height, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio and waist-to-height ratio and cardiovascular risk. The presence of sedentary lifestyle, left ventricular hypertrophy, atrial fibrillation, family history of diabetes mellitus and ischemic heart disease, being a smoker and consuming alcohol were associated with increased cardiovascular risk (p<0,001). Follow-up up to 18 months identified the presence of cardiovascular events represented by 27,3 %.Conclusions: a moderate cardiovascular risk determined by the presence of different factors was identified in older adults, with the occurrence of early cardiovascular events in those at higher cardiovascular risk.
