The integrated management of marine-coastal areas has emerged as one of the most promising strategies for the conservation of marine and coastal resources, based on experiences in North America and Europe. In the case of Latin America, there are several careers that train professionals in this area. In particular, in Costa Rica, programs are offered mainly at the postgraduate level, but there are no proposals that train professionals with holistic knowledge from undergraduate level that provide tools for solving problems associated with the coasts. The objective of this article is to visualize the importance of training professionals in the integrated management of coastal marine areas, from a contextualized curricular management in the southern zone of Costa Rica, with an international projection. The physical, socioeconomic and political characteristics of Costa Rica justify the need to train professionals in this mentioned area, through innovative curricular elements.

This work seeks to analyze the way in which the Costa Rican South Pacific region was articulated during the period 1940-1990 from the vision that built, developed and legitimized the regionalization model of the Costa Rican State and transnational agricultural companies such asthe United Fruit Company. or the Stone Forest. With the inputs of ethics and environmental history, we approach a more complex and precise way to understand the way and dynamics in which the definition of nature has been used in national and extractive regionalist projects oftransnational fruit companies. Based on the use of agricultural censuses, maps and plans of banana farms and cities, the processes that came to influence the consolidation of a regional, extractivist model oriented towards the primary sector of the economy, the sector of the economy, were identified. which has determined the past and present of the study area.

Living in society implies the determination of shared values that guide and inspire common life. Ethics training in universities responds to this human aspiration that, although theoretically necessary, entails multiple knots to clear. This article aims to identify the roots and opportunities of ethics training in the context of university teaching practices at the University of Costa Rica. The approach to this phenomenon is based on the analysis of university experiences both in its normative aspect and in the opportunities that arise in teaching practices in the context of ethics training. The relationships established in the article make it possible to determine the relevance of some teaching practices in the formation of ethics, understood as a social construction of values by individuals capable of deciding what is good for their particular and social contexts.

For the development of qualitative social research, it is necessary to use the appropriate techniques and methods according to the subject under study. The testimony constitutes a qualitative research technique used for data collection and is derived from the biographical method. Either an author or a witness participates in the testimony, whose voice reflects their own experiences and could even involve an entire community. It is, then, a reconstruction of facts from self-recognition and alterity. Testimony is studied in order to identify what is plausible and what is fictional in a primarily oral narration, which will later be transferred to writing. This article aims to analyze the theoretical approach of John Beverley in relation to the testimony in the light of the text Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia.

This paper aims to offer a brief overview of philosophical anthropology as a general contextualization for those who wish to begin their humanistic studies at the university level. In such way, it will allow them to question their starting points and establish a critical position in the face of the discourses about the human being that continue operating in society. Thus, an explanation of what is understood by Philosophical Anthropology will be proposed in relation to other expressions prior to the constitution of this discipline, to propose the epistemological status that gives it its raison d'être within philosophical thought and in relation to other disciplines that address the human subject, to conclusively offer some challenges that should be raised in order to offer a more integrative vision of the human being, in this case from the Latin American philosophy of liberation as a guiding parameter.

Family-owned SMEs are of great importance to the economy of countries. For this reason, in recent years more and more studies on this type of company have emerged. The resources and capabilities of family SMEs are valuable and rare resources to find in other types of companies. These resources are also difficult to imitate by the competition. If family SMEs know how to take advantage of them, they can be facilitators of good performance as well as financial, non-financial, and organizational effectiveness and stakeholder satisfaction. This study is a bibliometric review of existing research on the resources and capabilities of family SMEs that has been published in the SCOPUS database. The findings shows that, despite the fact that these small and medium-sized enterprises boost economies, research on the capabilities and resources of family SMEs is still scarce, concentrated in few authors and developed from a limited number of countries, and highlights opportunities to study characteristics of image, age, board of directors and CEO, and human resource management.

The article utilizes an epistemological framework (Khalifa, 2017) which facilitates loose definitions of the concepts of knowledge and explanation to contrast their scientific version with the philosophical one —specifically scientific knowledge with specifically philosophical knowledge—. Through this contrast, the particularities of explanation in each of these disciplines is revealed, as well as the kinds of questions that they aim to answer —open or closed— and the resources they use to do so —empirical or conceptual—. Based on the former, the main argument of this paper concludes that there are strong reasons to assume that the teaching of philosophy in itself promotes the teaching of cognitive and metacognitive skills that are not covered by the teaching of science, and that they are as relevant as the ones that it does cover. Furthermore, it is shown that there is a clear lack of quantitative studies to back this conclusion, and that it is important to fill this academic void moving forward.
