A study was carried out between May and November of 2016 in the Student Residence of the University of Medical Sciences, Guantanamo based on the use of the educational potential of the extension activities and tasks that are carried out in that center, with the aim of Expose the results of the diagnosis made to the process of training and strengthening the value of responsibility. The population was 250 students and 25 workers in the area, and the sample of 100 students and the 25 workers mentioned above, being determined as indicators: manifestations of behavioral problems, violations of the "Carlos J. Finlay" Regulation, criticism and self-criticism, commitment, Consecration and level of response to assigned tasks, assistance and punctuality, concluding that the educational potential of the activities and tasks that are developed are not efficiently used.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en el servicio de urgencias de la Clínica estomatológica Ramón Guevara Montano, Baracoa, desde enero 2016 - enero de 2017, con el objetivo de determinar el comportamiento de los estados inflamatorios pulpares más frecuentes. El universo estuvo constituido por pacientes que acudieron a consulta con dolor asociado a estructuras dentarias y la muestra por 85 pacientes mayores de 15 años a los que se les diagnosticó un estado inflamatorio pulpar. Se trabajó con las variables; edad, sexo, calidad, intensidad, aparición, localización, tiempo de refracción y evolución del síntoma dolor, hallazgos clínicos asociados y clasificación del estado inflamatorio pulpar diagnosticado. El estado inflamatorio pulpar más frecuente responde a la pulpitis irreversible aguda siendo la caries dental la responsable principal de los estados inflamatorios.

History writing uses more and more elements that promote recognition of the historical experience of the other. The sensible narratives are incorporated in the historiographic production, establishing a connection among the historical agents. The testimony literature is constituted as a privileged register of these social paths, revealing particularities about the daily sensibilities of different groups, making a broader comprehension of the analyzed process possible. This text focuses on the literary works  O centauro no jardim , O ciclo das águas and  Os deuses de Raquel , by the Gaúcho Jewish writer Moacyr Scliar, identifying their contribution to the comprehension of the immigration History and the ways of adaption of the Jewish community in the South of Brazil, in the 20th century

The article aims to disclose the testimonies of Polish Jews who sought refuge in Brazil fleeing Nazi persecutions or as post-war Holocaust survivors. From the methodological point of view, referring to the studies on memory and forgetfulness in oral history, the authors focus on the biographical research of the interviewees, especially in the situations described and understood as ruptures – dramatic changes over the course of their lives as: Jews in Poland, refugees, and, finally, as Brazilians.

Cultural diversity is a common component at all levels of social life integration, from micro perspectives to macro scales, and ethnicity has been shown to be an important element for the societies’ promotion in different dimensions. In this context, the objective of this article is to carry out a survey of Polish culture’s elements to contribute in the configuration of six Brazilian cities, focusing on urban management tools and public policies to encourage and support ethnic manifestations and for the maintenance and / or material and immaterial historical patrimony preservation. This is a qualitative study based on content analysis to identify elements of Polish culture expressed in Brazilian municipal public institutions internet portals. As a result, (I) it was possible to delineate important aspects of the Polish people's historical trajectory at local social realities of construction expressed through the arts, architecture, customs etc.; (II) to evaluate public policies aimed at the cultural preservation of the Polish ethnic group within the cities analyzed; (III) and to intensify the understanding of a culture capable of influencing the configuration of the urban spaces and Brazilian’s municipal management. The conclusion is that, despite the lack of incentive of Brazilian and Polish governmental institutions, there are still important features of Polish culture manifested in the material and immaterial patrimony of Brazilian cities, which open possibilities of approximation between these two countries based on the ideas of industries and the creative economy

The State of Paraná in southern Brazil received thousands of Polish immigrants in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Immigrants and their descendants main­tained and cultivated Polish culture in the new land, exemplified in architecture, food, artistry, religious rites and the use of Slavic language. Bilingualism was and is still greatly practiced in the region and it is still the native language of many descendants. This current investigation comprises two layers of linguistic research developed by UNICENTRO researchers linked to the Nucleus of Slavic Studies (NEES). On the one hand, the structure of the Polish variety spoken in the region is investigated, comprising phonetic details through an acoustic analysis with the software PRAAT. The research demonstrates that the language is not precisely that spoken currently in Poland, but was brought by immigrants a century ago and which differentiated itself throughout time due to contact with the Portuguese language. On the other hand, we investigated the features of speech by descendants of immigrants from the theoretical perspective of Labov’s quantitative socio-linguistics for possible contributions of Slavic languages, Polish and Ukrainian, on Portuguese in the region mentioned above. A database of Linguistic Varieties of Slavic Speech has been elaborated (VARLINFE).

The article investigates the everyday life and festivity of the Polish community living in Itapúa department in Paraguay. The research also addresses the sense of national identity of the descendants of Poles who came to Paraguay in the years 1936-1938. It firstly presents the socio-economic conditions of the districts of Itapúa, Carmen del Paraná and Fram, where fieldwork was carried out. Due to the agricultural nature of the Poles’ emigration to Paraguay, the research was conducted mainly in a rural environment where agriculture and small entrepreneurship are the primary occupations. The research was based on two types of sources: induced (open interviews) and existing ones. Eighteen in-depth interviews were conducted with representatives of the first and second generation born in Paraguay, giving a picture of the life of four generations. The elements of everyday life and festivity presented in the article are the most widely discussed aspects of the life of the Polish community in the context of maintaining the national identity of successive generations of Polish emigres. The key concept of the analysis is family. The research concludes that changes in family structure initiate alterations in the self-definition of members of the Polish community

The Polish community in Argentina is the result of large-scale population movements, that began in the 19th century and completed in the second half of the 20th. Several decades have passed since that migration between the two countries stopped. Despite the time elapsed since the arrival of the last immigrant group, some of their descendants, who were born, grew up and were educated in Argentina, still maintain, in one way or another, the ties that bind them to the birthplace of their ancestors. This article, using different theoretical perspectives, analyzes how, in the current context, the descendants of Polish immigrants perceive their ethnic identity, what the characteristics of the links, real or symbolic, they have with the country of their ancestors are and what motivates them to preserve this linkage.
