Resumen
The paper presents the results of ethnographic and linguistic research based on interviews and analysis of written sources. Our primary task was to define the role that Polish language was playing in old periodicals published in Brazil, how it was changing, and how it has been functioning today. Linguistic analysis of texts written in the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century shows that the variant of the Polish language in Brazil had a crucial meaning in identifying and uniting Polish emigrants. It was the language of education and culture of the Polish Diaspora in Brazil. The analysis of contemporary ethnolinguistic data shows that the Polish-Brazilian dialect, although different from the everyday language used in Poland, is highly valued and has been part of the cultural heritage practiced on a daily basis by descendants of Poles.

Resumen
Brazil was the first country in Latin America that after World War I recognized Poland’s independence. This was a great success for the Brazilian Polonia, especially for Kazimierz Warchałowski. His energy, obstinacy and dedication led to effects in which few previously had believed. This meant the completion of the fifteen years of his stay in Brazil. He had known during this period preeminent Brazilian politicians, such as Rui Barbosa, the presidents Venceslau Brás and Nilo Peçanha. Their engagement in the Polish cause was also a sign of Brazil’s growing aspirations to play a more important role in the international arena. World War I brought Independence to Poland and, to Brazil, a place at the Peace Conference table in Versailles. All Brazilian postulates were accepted there. Thanks to the involvement in the war Brazil saw a growth in its international significance.

Resumen
In the article, we ask about the reasons and sources of the religious-social revival that appeared on the Brazilian backlands (sertões) at the turn of the 19th century in the form of numerous millenarian and messianic movements and communities. There were different responses given on the questions of the reasons for the phenomenon. In the first section, we follow their evolution. In the next we consider that question from the perspective of the encounter of European culture with the cultures of the New World, understood as the process of the mutual interpenetration and the creation of a new religious mentality. In the final remarks, we make an attempt to determine the nature and extent of the relations in which the contents coming from different sources were constituting the religious and mental groundwork of the phenomenon discussed.

Resumen
As a consequence of Globalization, Chilean society has experienced several changes and has acquired and adapted new practices and ideas of Hindu inspiration, which have been incorporated to the traditional and official customs, mainly Christian – Catholic and Evangelical. This has created new religious forms (and secular ones), that are eclectic in its origins and expressions. In Chile, during the second half of the 20th Century, several movements and communities that define themselves as Hindus or that practice, directly or indirectly, their own manifestations inspired in Hinduism, such as yoga(s) or meditations (among many others), are born and coexist. Considering this, the aim of this paper is “to historize” this process of receptions and adaptations of the “practices and beliefs” of Hindu origin in Chile during the second half of the 20th Century, and at the same time, it intends to conceptually explain these phenomena.

Resumen
Between 1893 and 1924, the archbishop of Salvador (BA), Don Jerônimo Tomé da Silva, an enthusiast of Brazilian modernization and an advocate of Catholic orthodoxy, wanted to regulate devotions and feasts in accordance with the canonic constitutions and codes. Lay people, in brotherhoods and third orders, by means of negotiations and resistances to the new rules, attempted to keep their activities with no clerical interference. This paper identifies and analyzes the strategies and tactics used by clergymen and lay people to adapt to the innovations of the 20th century, particularly the new norms, which could cause changes in Catholic practices and rituals.
