Introduction:  Suicidal behavior includes suicidal attempt and consummated suicide.  804 000 deaths by suicide were registered in the world in 2012.  In Cuba, suicide is the ninth cause of death and the third one in the group of 10-19 years of age. Objective: To characterize suicidal behavior in Cuba from 2011 to 2014. Material and methods: The sampling universe was composed of all registries of mobidity by suicidal attempt and the registries of mortality by suicide, taken from the database of the Direction of Registry and Statistics of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, from 2011 to 2014.  The variables were: sex, age for the attempt, skin color, occupation, and the method used for suicide. The accumulated morbidity and mortality rates were calculated by groups of ages per 100 000 inhabitants, the crude-, adequate-, -and sex-specific rates, the man-woman cause of mortality, and the attempt-suicide relationship.  The relative change (percentage) was calculated, as well as the percentages according to the variables. Results: 53 764 suicidal attempts were reported, for an accumulated rate of 126.2 per 100 000 inhabitants.  The female sex was 37 617 (70 %). The attempt-suicide relationship was 9.1. 5942 deaths by suicide were reported, for an accumulated rate of 14.8 per 100 000 inhabitants. The occupation that predominated was the retired one (29.8%), and the most used method was hanging (76.4%). Conclusions: The female sex is the most affected in the attempt, and the male sex is the most affected in the suicide. The attempt-suicide relationship decreases as age increases. Keywords: suicidal attempt, suicide, self-inflicted lesions, suicidal behavior.

Introduction: During children’s growth and development, disharmonies may occur at the level of facial-skull. Among these is Class II Division 1 Syndrome, being mandibular progress one of the alternatives for its correction. With this aim, Dr. Bimler designed a device that allows a better adaptation of the patient. Objective: Describe the skeletal cephalometric changes that occur with the use of the Elastic Modeling, in the treatment of Class II Division 1 Syndrome. Materials and Methods: An observational, descriptive and retrospective study were carried out, the work universe was made from 33 clinical records, all of them belong to patient with this anaraxia, treated with Bimler appliance Type A. Results: The total profile angle diminished its initial average from 14.6 to 11.8 mm., the maxillary depth increased in 3,2mm; the Jaw Diagonal and the Suborbital Facial Height increased too in 11.1mm and 4, 3 mm respectively, whereas the skeletal ledge decreased in 1.6 mm. 80% of the males and 72.3% of the females had transformed their profile to straight. Conclusions: With the use of Elastic Modeler Type A in the treatment of Class II Division 1 Syndrome, cephalometric variables show favorable changes towards the correction of skeletal disharmonies, resulting in a significant reduction of the skeletal ledge, which contributes to the more orthognathic profile of patients.  Keywords: Class II Syndrome, malocclusion, Cephalogram, appliance, Bimler, cefalometrics changes.

Introduction: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic systemic disease with repercussion at the oral level. Highly sustained blood glucose levels lead to decreased salivary flow, decreased peripheral vascular response, which contributes to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar, to the development of caries, halitosis and periodontal disease. Objective: To determine the association of oral disorders and type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in children and adolescents. Material and Methods: An observational case-control study was conducted with a group of children and adolescents with type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (Group 1) aged 3 to 18 years and a group of children and adolescents without Diabetes Mellitus (Group 2) of comparable ages and sex. Results: Patients with diabetes were more affected by xerostomia (37.8%), ulcers (55.6%) and periodontopathies (71.1%) than patients without diabetes. These results were statistically significant, unlike dental caries Behavior of oral hygiene where the differences were not statistically significant. Conclusions: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is related to oral alterations, so diabetic children and adolescents present a greater frequency of periodontopathies, xerostomia and ulcers than children and adolescents without diabetes, thus not occurring with dental caries or oral hygiene. Keywords: Diabetes type 1, oral alterations, children and adolescents.

Introduction: Treatment of chronic periodontitis is prolonged by persistent inflammation in affected tissues. Regenerative medicine shows encouraging results. It is the first time in Cuba, according to the reviewed literature, that the combination of platelet lysate and autologous mononuclear cells is used in this treatment. Objective: to show the effect of the combination of platelet lysate and autologous mononuclear cells in the treatment of periodontitis. Presentation of the case:  A 44-year-old female patient diagnosed with periodontitis who had been treated for 1 year without surgical procedures due to persistent inflammation. She is referred to the periodontics consultation of the "Dr. Enrique Cabrera" General Hospital to receive treatment with regenerative medicine. Treatment with autologous platelet lysate was considered, once the scaling and root planer had been completed, the affected gingivae were prefixed with the platelet lysate. At 7 days after the lysate is applied, the gingiva shows no clinical signs of inflammation, and a noticeable reduction in the number of affected teeth and the depth or elimination of periodontal pockets and tooth mobility. Bone defects with a mononuclear cell implant were surgically treated one month later. When evaluating at 6 months, radiographic signs of trabecular organization, definition of the cortical bone, and bone formation in the area of bone defects were found variably. Conclusions: The combined treatment of autologous platelet lysate and mononuclear cells shows a satisfactory evaluation in the treatment of chronic periodontitis and reduces treatment time. Keywords: Regenerative medicine, autologous platelet lysate, chronic periodontitis, autologous mononuclear stem cell
