This article presents a study on the community perception of tourism and its sociocultural impact from the point of view of the inhabitants of the coastal communes of the Bellavista Parish and areas bordering the La Tembladera wetland, a protected area with a tourist high potential. The references analyzed discuss the sociocultural impact involved in tourist development, interaction and influences between rural communities and tourism. The records obtained were highly reliable according to the reliability analysis (Cronbach’s ). Within the analysis, the component that presented the most interactive relationships had to do with the personal safety of the residents, who said that this is not affected by the flow of visitors during the local tourist seasons. The analysis of the sociocultural impact of tourism shows us that this can be related to the perception that the residents of rural communities of Bellavista Parish have. Keywords: Community perception, tourism, sociocultural impact, personal safety, rural communities. In the West Central Region of Costa Rica, there are plenty of forests under public and private protection; however, they are increasingly exposed to fragmentation. This is the first report about species richness and the relative abundance of large and medium size terrestrial mammals, in Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve (ReBAMB) and Nectandra Cloud Forest Reserve (RPN). Our camera trap study was undertaken between April and August, 2008. After 1 620 trap-days, 11 species were identified, nine in ReBAMB and six in RPN. The recorded species in both sites were: Cuniculus paca, Dasyprocta punctata, Nasua narica and Pecari tajacu. Felids were only captured in ReBAMB. The peccary (P. tajacu) was the most abundant mammal within the studied area, in contrast with the apparent absence of species such as white-lipped peccary (Tayassu pecari) and jaguar (Panthera onca). The difference in species composition between both sites was probably consequence of habitat fragmentation, which especially affects RPN. Species as white-lipped peccary and jaguar could be affected, directly or indirectly, by poaching. We propose that a good conservation goal for ReBAMB and due to their ecological importance is to have at least a white-lipped peccary’s population for the next ten years.

Introduction: mortality prediction scores allow the interpretation of information derived from the clinical practice; which facilitates the estimation of success in diagnosis and the choice of a particular therapy. Objective: to assess the quality of hospital medical care through the scale of risk of pediatric mortality in intensive care units.Method: A  prospective, transversal and analytical study of technological evaluation and development was conducted. 680 children admitted from November 2013 to August 2015 were included in the study; the sample was taken intentionally, based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The SPSS 11.1 program for Windows was used to determine the data, and to calculate the descriptive statistics: measures of central tendency (mean) and dispersion (standard deviation). The variables were analyzed using the chi-square association test (X2). The specificity and sensitivity of this pediatric mortality score were calculated. A value of p <0.05 was considered significant for all tests. Results: 57.2% were male, 53.2% were under 5 years old, followed by 34.4% between 10 and 18 years, respiratory diseases (31.1%) prevailed, and it was the most common disease at admission. Out of the total of patients studied, 642 presented favorable evolution, 53.8% were eutrophic. According to the prognostic scale, 72% of the cases showed low risk of death. Conclusion: malnutrition increases the probability of death and that the prognostic score used is a useful and necessary tool because it predicts in a high percentage the risk of dying, which showed greater specificity than sensitivity.

Introduction: respiratory needs are the main determinant of the posture of jaws, tongue and head; that is why an altered respiratory pattern produces morphological changes of the palate along with the position of the hyoid bone. Objective: to determine the depth of the palate and position of the hyoid bone in mouth-breathing children from 9 to 11 years old. Method: an analytical research of cases and controls was carried out. The target group was comprised of 107 patients and the sample included 60 patients (30 mouth-breathing children group, and 30 nasal-breathing children in the control group). Lateral cephalograms were taken from the skull. Linear and / or angular measurements were used to determine the position of the hyoid bone; a slide gauge and an acrylic template were used to measure the depth of palate. Results: a mean palatine depth was obtained at the canines’ level of 5.28 mm and at the molar level of 14.00 mm in the mouth breathing group with 5.74 mm and 10.18 mm respectively in the control group. Negative measures with respect to the distances H-H’ and C3-Gn-H of the hyoid bone predominated. Significant differences were found between the two study groups at a significance level of 5%. Conclusions: the mouth breathing group presented a palatal depth greater at the molar level and slightly lower at the canine level than the control group. The hyoid showed a postero-inferior position in the mouth-breathing group.

Introduction: at present the study of stress in primary or main caregiver is considered of great impact in a general sense, which represents this figure for the patient. Objective: to characterize stress in the primary or main caregiver in pediatric onco-hematology service of Pinar del Río. Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 40 caregivers of patients with hematologic malignancies from May 2016 to January 2017. Observation, documentary analysis, interview, stress vulnerability test, IDARE inventory to assess anxiety and IDERE method for the diagnosis of depression was applied. Results: stress is reported in all cases, anxiety and depression reach high rates, and fear, nervousness, anger in addition to irritability are described within the most represented emotional manifestations, where health is of a great importance for children, with great impact on physical and emotional well-being of the caregiver, generating levels of stress. Conclusions: the quality and intensity of the feelings experienced during emotional stimulation seem to be the most peculiar and important characteristics in this whole process. The perception of health status is experienced by the caregiver allowing him/her to value the fact that behind a seemingly order there is a well-structured belief of disease and gravity, generating fear that is associated with anxiety and depression.
