The aim of this paper is to sketch a theory of emotion. Our thesis is that emotional experience is a type of perceptual experience. Agents perceive emotionally the world whose objects and situations present to them as being relevant to their well-being and they do it by means of practical relations towards their environment. Our proposal attempts to avoid, in this way, the problem of some classical theories of emotions such as James’s theory of emotions as feelings and cognitivist theories of emotions (Deigh 2004). Moreover, contrary to what we call priopioceptive theories of emotions (Damasio 1994, Prinz 2004), our theory is an ecological approach, according to which the world belongs to the conditions of individuation of emotional episodes.    

Analytic aesthetic addressed the problem of the definition of art and found an alt ernative effcient solution in the Dantian concept of artworld. Nevertheless, the contextualist side of the Danto’s program must face the claim of a certain lack of specificity. This paper seeks to link that with the developments made by Goodman around art in order to provide effective visible elements to such claim. In doing so, it is expected to analyze the difference between execution and implementation as central instances of artmaking according to his functionalist reading. The relation between both accounts represents, thus, an innovation over the theoretical area in which is inserted as much as a considerable advantage over the contextualist treatment of the problem.

Thomas Kuhn’s philosophy of science has been used in several areas of biology, and here we examine the possibility of applying kuhnian philosophy to helminthology. We offer two possible interpretations of the history of that discipline. In our first interpretation, we only use the concepts Kuhn introduces in the first stage of his works. In the second interpretation, we use the concepts of disciplinary matrix and exemplar. According to the first interpretation, the pre-paradigmatic period of helminthology started between the 16th and 17th centuries, and continued up until the second half of the 19th century, when helminthology acquired its first paradigm. From the point of view of the second interpretation, the first disciplinary matrix for zoology was inaugurated by Aristotle, who also delivered the first exemplar for the study of helminths.

In this critical essay, I analyse Rivera Castro’s Virtud, felicidad y religión en la filosofía moral de Kant. In this work, the author highlights the significance of happiness in Kant’s Ethics, aiming at establishing its relation to virtue. My conceptual and methodological objections are intended to question her fundamental thesis on the scope and specificity of the motivational role happiness plays as component element of the highest good.

En su caracterización del contenido no conceptual, Christopher Peacocke realiza un esfuerzo constante por diferenciar el contenido no conceptual protoproposicional que propone del contenido de tipo conceptual. En este trabajo analizaré tales esfuerzos para concluir que resultan infructuosos, llevando al autor a lo que podría denominarse como una rotulación incorrecta del contenido protoproposicional como no conceptual. Para ello, reconstruiré la posición no conceptualista de Peacocke y señalaré, mediante los ejemplos que el mismo autor ofrece, la gran similitud que existe entre ciertos contenidos y procesos paradigmáticamente conceptuales, y los ejemplos de contenidos y procesos que el autor considera como protoproposicionales y presuntamente no conceptuales.

The paper addresses the relationship between contract law and Rawls’s theory of justice (particularly, the difference principle). It assumes that institutions can influence citizens’ attitudes (or social ethos). Thus, all rest being the same, the difference principle requires that, to the greatest possible extent, institutions favor an egalitarian ethos. This leads to the conclusion that the role of contract law in an ideal Rawlsian society may be other than promoting an efficient regulation of economic exchange. Contract law can switch citizens’ egoistic attitudes in two discursive ways: by doing away with the assumption that agents are interested only in maximizing their own utility (the homo economicus assumption) and praising the value of moderately altruist behavior.

En su más reciente libro (Orlando 2015), Eleonora Orlando nos presenta una provocadora propuesta que busca cuestionar el éxito de la tradición fregeana en filosofía del lenguaje siguiendo líneas contextualistas y relevantistas. Este libro constituye una valiosa aportación a la filosofía del lenguaje contemporánea. Es una lectura obligatoria para todo aquel interesado en entender el estado actual de la filosofía del lenguaje. Además, la gran variedad de textos y posturas que lo comprenden constituyen por sí mismos valiosas y en ocasiones controvertidas contribuciones a la discusión actual. De ahí que este libro sea también una extraordinaria invitación a continuar la ya centenaria discusión sobre la visión fregeana del lenguaje y si el contextualismo presenta una manera conveniente de mejorarla. En este artículo me propongo hacer un estudio crítico de este libro, particularmente de su desafío al fregeanismo. Para ello discutiré a detalle sus argumentos más antifregeanos, preguntándome al mismo tiempo si se trata de posturas incompatibles con la semántica fregeana o si, por el contrario, constituyen propuestas enteramente compatibles con esta.
