Resumen
This paper presents a new tool which has been developed in order to make reading speed calculations, and whose results are expressed by means of the two parameters most used in the field: characters per second (cps) and words per minute (wpm). It has been confirmed that different subtitling software programs calculate different reading speed values (both in cps and wpm) for the same set of subtitles. Due to this, a very simple software application which calculates values for cps and wpm is now introduced. It has been designed to make no assumptions, but simply to count characters and to make very straightforward time algebra with the subtitle in and out times. This new tool allows for the calculation of reading speed values of large series of subtitles at a time, and it may be used both for research and in the classroom environment

Resumen
Professional translation in Spain is an increasingly feminized sector. Nevertheless, this situation of the labour market is not producing a greater visibility of women translators. Employing Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological framework, this paper analyzes a set of data –reviews of literary translations and national awards to translation- and reflections (interviews with women translators) in order to consider social and professional causes for this lack of visibility and acknowledgement

Resumen
Dubbing a film in which dialect plays a central role not only in the language of some of its characters but also as a topic of discussion and a trigger of comic misunderstandings, is a challenge for any translator. The task of transferring the successful French film Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (Welcome to the Sticks) with its extensive use of Picard into Spanish is a case in point. In its analysis of Bienvenidos al Norte, this article discusses several solutions to the problem, rejecting traditional options such as translating dialect into standard Spanish or into a Spanish dialect like Andalusian. The creation of an artificial Spanish is put forward as the best option and evaluated in phonological and lexical terms.

Resumen
Our research is framed within the area of Translation and Interpreting (ti) studies and more specifically within the field of the didactics of Audiovisual Translation (avt). It is an empirical and descriptive study of the didactics of avt at university level in Spain. The main aim of this research is to provide real, reliable data on university training in avt and on the professional market requirements of this sector in Spain. To achieve this, we have worked in collaboration with teachers, translators and employers and have identified the profiles of these three population groups. We have also investigated the skills needed by translators of audiovisual texts, reflected on the role of technology in avt training, and discussed the most appropriate methodology to teach avt in order to come up with proposals aimed at improving training in avt.

Resumen
This paper explores the explicit and less obvious connections of Dog˘an Kardes¸, a children’s magazine, with translation. It departs from a theorization of the potential links between translation studies and periodical studies and argues that both fields have a great deal to offer each other as emerging and flourishing disciplines. The paper further argues that the study of the periodical and the place of translation and translators within it, needs to go beyond discrete case studies of specific works, authors and translators and set out to reconstruct the broader context in which they gain fresh meanings. The main focus of the study is to explore the translational habitus in Dog˘an Kardes¸ and its contributions to the common habitus of the magazine.

Resumen
This article analyzes song translation from a cultural point of view, applying polysystem and cultural transfer theories, using as a case study the ways in which the work and style of French singersongwriter Georges Brassens has been exported-imported in Spain. In the first section, the translation of songsis described as a form of cultural transfer, with a fixed skopos within a specific context. Then, different forms of transfers are reviewed: cultural reception, stylistic appropriation/emulation and translation/adaptation. The second section analyses why and how the «quintessentially French» singer-songwriter Brassens has been so successfully integrated in the Spanish cultural reservoir, mainly through the role played in this transfer by artists such as Paco Ibáñez, Javier Krahe and Loquillo. Finally, the different strategies which lie behind musical transfers are explored alongside their role in the target culture

Resumen
This study seeks to present a very little known side of the Italian intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975), that is to say, that of translator. In the first phase of his life, in Friul, Pasolini undertook poetry using Friulan language, with Poesie a Casarsa (1942). Also he actively devoted to the affirmation of this language as a literary language. In promoting and strengthening Friulan language and identity, he gave translation a very important role. According to him, the act of translation was further proof of the status of Friulan and a necessary task he had to carry out to enrich Friulan culture and language. The study analyses the context in which Pasolini carried out these translations, and his thoughts about translation

Resumen
The Renaissance led to changes in the way people understood the process of translation. In the Spanish Empire of Charles v, Spanish started to replace Latin and the translation of Italian poetry — notably Petrarch — into Spanish led to the blossoming of Petrarchism in Spanish literature. Hernando Hoze’s translation of the Triumphi played a particularly important role both in propagating Petrarchism in the peninsula and in contributing to changes in the translation process.
