Translation: That obscure object of (re)search. A quarter century of progress in translation studies

Resumen
The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the journal Trans. Revista de traductología provides a unique opportunity to take stock of the evolution in research in the field of translation studies over this period. Drawing on illustrative examples, this contribution discusses important transformations in the object of study of translation-related research, as well as its increasing commitment to interdisciplinarity and to the fine-tuning of its methodological approaches. These emerge as ways forward for addressing a ubiquitous and elusive phenomenon which is conceived as occurring at numerous intersections among heterogeneous cultures, languages and identities coexisting and colliding within spaces-in-translation, especially in the global and digital age.

Resumen
This article analyses the translations by Agustí Bartra and by José Luis Rivas and Fabienne Bradu of the “definitive” version of Aimé Césaire’s Cahier d’un retour au pays natal, published in 1956. Based on Berman’s analytic of translation and textual deformation system (1999, 2009), I intend to characterize the translators’ approaches to the polysemy of the text and their consequences on its interpretative openness. In order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the translation projects, we present, on the one hand, the original work as well as its versions in French, and, on the other hand, the translations published in Mexico, with a particular emphasis on the context of translators and the publishing houses involved. Finally, I compare and comment seven fragments of the text with their translations, considering Berman’s deforming tendencies, in particular, rationalization and impoverishment.

Resumen
This article presents the theoretical basis and an exploratory study of exclusively conversational registers, collected thanks to connectivity (potential for interaction through technology), in a situated cognition framework during the execution of translation tasks in an online didactic environment. The aim is to bring out patterns of the translation process from verbalizations. The analysis takes place using the basic elements of the grounded theory: emergent research design, theoretical sampling, theoretical saturation, labelling and categorization of phenomena through the constant comparison method, as conceived by Strauss and Corbin (1998). The study, on ten verbalizations, is part of a project in which 200 conversations are being analyzed using this methodology with the help of the computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software, Atlas-ti.

Resumen
This paper examines the Spanish translation of We Should All Be Feminists by Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (1977). In order to examine the reconfiguration of feminine subjectivities into Spanish, we will analyse the dialogical and polyphonic marks evident in the original text (Ducrot, 1984; Authier, 1984, García Negroni, 2009, 2016, 2019) from which the discursive-enunciative image or authorial ethos is formed (Amossy, 1999) and we will evaluate the re-enunciation by the figure of the Translator in the translated text (Spoturno, 2017). In this sense and within the framework of this methodological proposal, we will carry out the analysis of cases to put to the test our guiding hypothesis, that indicates that the configuration of the Translator’s ethos attenuates the presence of feminine subjectivities in the Spanish version.

Resumen
The aim of this article is to study the audiovisual translation of the first sound film in German cinematography, Der blaue Engel (von Sternberg, 1930), in its English version, The Blue Angel, from a specific perspective in translation studies: heterolingualism. In this article, we are interested in observing Josef von Sternberg’s ability to adapt to the expansion of the modes of communication in the transition from silent films to talkies and also to fulfill the role of a translator of his own work. This is a privileged moment in film history, rich in creativity, in which we can see the great challenge of this project: to simultaneously shoot two versions of the same film, one in German and the other one in English, with the very same actors. In the process, and to be able to succeed in his creative vision for this film, Josef von Sternberg had to overcome the artistic, linguistic, and cultural problems inherent in the switching of languages and mode of communication.

Resumen
The article analyzes the relationship between different age cohorts and a set of signals characterizing the decades that covers the process of modernization in Chile. By analyzing the extent to which the different cohorts are recognized in a number of areas in each of the decades and their correspondence with ideological elements raises the possibility of taking over as generations cohort participating in the study and then discusses the possibilities and limits encountered by the generational component as social analyzer.

Resumen
This article analyzes the lockdown narratives of a group of people thematizing different closure experiences in their biographical trajectories. These narratives were built from self-interviews carried out during the socio-political, sanitary crisis context affecting the world after the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. From the invitation to speak about their past, present, and imaginary future lockdown insights, the different lockdown situations experienced by different generations are temporarily explored, encouraging reflexivity about the processes of crisis and experiences of life for younger generations.
