This article examines the ethical dimension of the professional training of dentistry students. Using a qualitative approach, interviews were carried out among professors and students, observations were made of academic activities, and focus groups were held with students from two courses. By means of the analysis categories associated with the hidden curriculum, it was possible to note the values that are more or less present in the professional socialization process involved in conflicts of interest, in matters of area prestige, in the power of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, as well as in the models in which students reflect on their identity. Discussing and reflecting on these findings allow one to make progress in understanding the complexity of factors that make up the 'actual curriculum' and shape the ethical dimension of vocational training, which is so important to develop future professionals-citizens who are ethically sensitive and socially competent.

This study undertook a systematic review of the scientific literature and of the regulatory framework to pinpoint key theoretical and conceptual ideas on health education management in Brazil in the period of 20032009. The management of the National Health System points to the need of training managers and professionals to work in the industry from the moment they graduate, including teaching-service integration and professional training in the workplace. After applying the inclusion criteria, 16 articles and six ordinances were included in the review. Insofar as health education management is concerned, the debate revolves around two main concepts, permanent education and continuing education centered, respectively, on the academic model and in team learning, inherent to the groups of workers. The analysis of the scientific literature and of the regulatory framework suggests that conceptual transformations challenge all players in health to a theoretical-conceptual break away and subjective stance, extending beyond a position of 'human resource,' undertaker of tasks, and reaching a subject capable of reflecting on the work processes.

This article describes the model of primary health care in Venezuela: Misión Barrio Adentro I. This is a case study analyzing documents, observation guidelines, and interviews obtained in the field during the months of July and August, 2006. The results show that Misión Barrio Adentro is taking shape rapidly, with the construction of popular practices and the development of the National Public Health System, which ensure references and counterreferences. The process is based on teamwork, under which healing activities predominate, with prevention activities and strong community participation. Although the goals are being achieved, they have been poorly documented. This study allowed knowledge concerning the different models of primary health care deployed in Latin America in a context of social transformation to be enhanced.

The purpose of this study was to get to know the vision of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) team members concerning the ideal characteristics a dentist must have to work under this model. The study used a qualitative approach and the focus group technique to collect data. Focus groups were conducted with community health agents, nursing assistants, nurses and physicians from the FHS of Goiânia, Goiás, who had worked with oral health teams for at least a year. Data were analyzed using thematic content analyses. In the view of the professionals who were interviewed, dentists, as well as other FHS professionals, must have professional skills to work in the field of public health and interpersonal skills characterized by the ability to communicate, have good relationships, ethics, creativity in tough situations, and emotional balance. These characteristics lead to vocational training focused on the principles of the Unified Health System the National Humanization Policy.

This study investigates the perception nursing professionals have about teamwork at a Family Health Strategy unit in a municipality in Southern Brazil. The entire nursing team, consisting of two nurses and six nursing technicians, was interviewed in this qualitative survey. Two categories emerged based on the analysis of the data: limits in teamwork, and possibilities for teamwork. The first category showed a few difficulties, such as authoritarian management, political barriers, lack of motivation and recognition, and high levels of staff turnover. In the second, respondents suggested a few possibilities for teamwork, such as knowledge about each team member's skills, effective communication, and team meetings. It is concluded that health managers should come closer to the workers and to the daily work done by these teams in order to give voice to these professionals, promote job satisfaction, and qualify the assistance provided to the population.

This article is the result of research aimed at understanding how the relationships between standards and renormalizations occur in a hospital in the context of the social division of labor. The subjects were two nurses and four nursing technicians from a hospital located in the Vale do Rio Pardo region, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The methods used to collect data were semi-structured interviews, participant observation, document analysis, and field diaries. As a result, it was possible to understand that health works continuously generate knowledge in their daily work that essential for achieving this. However, such knowledge is not recognized because of the spontaneous nature of its production. In addition, although in prescribed work the division of nursing work foresees rules as to the division of knowledge, in the actual work there are both exchanges and production of knowledge.

The inclusion of Oral Health Teams in the Family Health Strategy represents a shift in public health. This study aims to get to know the views of graduates and coordinators of the technical training provided by the Technical Health School for Oral Health Technicians in municipalities in Northern Minas Gerais based on the Smiling Brazil Program. The methodology that was used is exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitative emphasis. The graduates claim that taking the course benefits the service provided to the population through actions in health education, it affords greater efficiency and understanding, and improves the quality of activities done in clinics. Coordinators and graduates emphasize the improvements that take place in biosecurity actions. The perception of the oral health teams, represented by the graduates of the technical course in oral health and by the coordinators of the teams in which they were in, confirms the hypothesis that investing in education for Unified Health System workers helps improve service quality.

The role played by radiologic nursing has grown significantly, rendering this professional an integral element of radiology and of diagnostic imaging. Since a professional with flaws in training is exposed to unnecessary risks, the importance of this work is the outcome of the need to disseminate knowledge about this area of expertise to future professionals. The purpose of this article is to get to know the diagnostic imaging work process offered to the students of the Technical Course in Nursing-Proeja at a public institution in the Metropolitan Region of Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina. Action research was the methodology used. Three questionnaires were applied to course students and faculty in order to learn more about the needs of the course insofar as this topic is concerned. The results revealed a lag in training, since the subject is not addressed in class. Based on the needs shown by the research subjects, the training activities were planned in such a manner as to cover topics related to ionizing radiation, protection against radiation, the work of the nursing technician in this area, and the legislation. After the training, students showed greater security and interest in working with diagnostic imaging services as well as in maintaining a continuing education process. Thus, providing the training proved to be relevant to qualifying future professionals.

This article aims to address a few aspects related to the lives of the community health workers in the city of São Carlos, São Paulo. Qualitative research was used to build this study, with the application of semi-structured interviews and thematic content analyses. Four categories resulted from the analysis: How I see my work; the difficulties and advantages of living in the neighborhood; the CHA in their different roles, and, ultimately, quality of life: life as it is. Being closer to the reality being studied enabled a view of the community health agents beyond the work dimension and highlighted aspects that particularize and set them apart from other professionals in the Unified Health System, namely: Being a worker, resident and user. We conclude that the community health agent needs to be understood based on the uniqueness of the profession, providing personal empowerment and a professional routine.
