This article explores how the relationship between biomedical knowledge and the family is reshaped by two works of contemporary theater and literature: US-American Deborah Stein and Suli Holum’s Chimera and Colombian Fernando Vallejo’s El desbarrancadero. By setting the analysis of the verbal, visual and actoral procedures of the play and the novel inside a ser of hemispheric historical coordenates, the study of the play and the novel allows for an understanding of the cultural frames conditioning decisions about the medical treatment of bodies and the different forms of care that develop around them, together with what the work with words and images can effect in them. Supported by that research, I argue that the literary and artistic capacity to “interfere” with kinship structures and authoritative discourses allows for the invention of new forms of company for the suffering.

This article it's dedicated to the study of the metaliterary phenomenon in Central America during the XXI century, from the book Cuaderno de Tokio (2015), written by Horacio Castellanos-Moya. This narrative book constitutes a literature proposal where it explores the processes and problematics of "I", an I established as a writer-character, who reflects and gives testimony of the problems and processes of the creation and literary field. This allows us to inquire not only on the metaliterary core themes proposed by José A. Pérez Bowi but also inquire in the notions of a writer and literature that established this phenomenon in Central America.    Key words Central American literature, salvadoran literature, metaliterature, Horacio Castellanos Moya, Cuaderno de Tokio

The aim of this paper is to analyze the configuration of urban space in Nuestro modo de vida (2014) by Fogwill. In a novel that echoes the primacy of flow as the main way of moving around the contemporary city, we are particularly interested in evaluating the way in which its characters move around an urban space that appears fragmented. The linearity proposed by highway trips seems to guarantee the safety of transit through the city for characters who remain sheltered from a certain “fondo de terror” that underlies the story.

This paper proposes a particular reading of the late work by Mario Bellatin, specially his 2013 novel El hombre dinero. It is the goal of this reading to clarify the ways in which this work reaches and questions one of the keys operating modes of the modern literary experience, one which acts as its empty center: the autopoietic impulse of the subject as opus. Beyond any controversy about the generic status of a particular work as autobiographic, Mario Bellatin’s work explores performatively the ways in which literature (as we experience it in creation and reception since its modern institutionalization), has been and continues to be an active excercise within a self-saying, self-representative tension by a subject historically determined by a particular structure: the duality of the merchandise imposed to it by the capitalist society of value.

This article examines Borges’ short story «Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius» and compares it with several Utopian texts. It focuses on the configuration of narrative time in the imaginary world of Tlön, following Augustine of Hippo’s and Paul Ricoeur’s philosophies. The analysis of the metaphysical theories of time, and how Tlönians perceive and experience it, allows us to talk about Tlön as a living metaphor of our world.

After a long century of attributing the anonymous  text La tía fingida to Cervantes, it seems clear that none of the proofs used to defend this authorship offers a solid foundation on which to sustain it. A new attribution to Francisco de Quevedo is proposed by comparing recurring voices or expressions almost exclusive of the peculiar quevedesco erotic universe, as well as characters, scenes, special pronominal uses and figures of speech, to conclude that no contemporary author but Quevedo could create the novel. Keywords: Quevedo / Cervantes / Anonymous attribution / Pronominal uses / Erotic vocabulary.

The origin of poetry and of poetic texts has been controversial since ancient times. The ancient Western literary theory distinguished two big groups of thesis to explain poetic activity: idealism, in line with the Platonic tradition, and rationalism, in line with Aristotle’s thought. The former explains poetry by resorting to divine revelation, epiphany, and ecstasy, or, in the non-religious accounts, poetry is understood as an expression of the poet’s inner world. The latter explains poetry as the result of natural gifts and talents in the human being, which creates the best poems only after a process of conscious elaboration. In the idealist tradition the body plays a fundamental role, whereas the mind is the main protagonist for rational theories. This paper combines both traditions under cognitive perspectives, and applies a concept of consciousness as a continuum between body and mind processes, or between conscious and unconscious processes, in an attempt to synthetize two aspects of the human being (body and mind) since both have equal importance in poetic activity.

The experience of immersion in the real world and in the textual world are comparable in that both require that the medium which the world unfolds remains hidden from our attention. Phenomenology and cognitive sciences thus speak of a transparent experience, as opposed to the opaque experience implied by awareness of the medium. In this article we study the implications of such processes in relation to the experience of reading the work of the French-Russian writer Antoine Volodine, which the author himself calls "post-exotism". We argue that in post-exotic literature the multiplication of counter-immersive procedures constitues a true aesthetics of opacity, understood as an aesthetics of the access to the textual worlds, and we will analyse what functions this aesthetics plays in his literary project as whole.
