The article maps historical sources of the secondary school in Brazil and is the result of the first part of a research project regarding this teaching level. It is a bibliographic-documentary research about thesis and dissertations of graduate programs and relevant legislation. The fonts were categorized as: documentary, archeological, printed, iconographic, oral, biographical and audiovisual. It was observed that the first secondary institutions were the result of the mobilization of influent groups from each city and the participation of the municipal power on their maintenance. Paths were indicated, but it is necessary to amplify the mapping, problematize primary and secondary sources and raise further hypotheses about how the implementation and expansion of the secondary school in Brazil happened.

This article is the result of an investigation of scholarly articles presented at the annual meetings of the National Association of Graduate Studies in Education (Anped) from the years 2007 to 2011 to Working Group 24, Education and Art and Working Group 7, Early Education for Children from 0 to 6 years old. The main objective was to conduct a mapping and qualitative and interpretive analysis of articles focusing on the education of children from 0 to 3 years old and artistic languages. The study found an absence of specific studies about this issue. This indicates the need to strengthen the dialog between these two working groups at Anped and to look for articles about this issue in other recognized spaces of academic publications.

This paper brings the fact that the teacher, in his speech in the classroom, exercises pedagogical authority in a particular pedagogical action as, for example, teaching the standard language. The teaching of normative grammar has become a “myth” in school institutions. Pierre Bourdieu discusses the legitimacy of the pedagogical action, in partnership with Passeron, in the reproduction work. In another work, The Economics of Language Exchange, it deals with the relations of communication made through these exchanges, affirming that they are relations of symbolic power. These two works were chosen to that a discussion is made about the teaching of the cultured norm of the language in the schools, as a form of legitimate imposition of a homogeneous formation. It is intended to present how the set of agents of the educational field is consciously or unconsciously subordinated to the imposing forces of the dominant cultural arbitrary, driven by common or individual interests, such as success in examinations, in relation to the domain or not of that language.

This article is part of a qualitative research with descriptive approach, and has the aim of investigating the contributions of the Institutional Program for Scholarship for Beginner Teachers (PIBID) in the continued education of teachers. The sample was constituted of five headmasters of Basic Education schools affiliated to the Program; five coordinators of the Pedagogy subprojects area from Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (Unoesc); five supervisor professors and five fellows. The data collection was held through semi-structured interviews. The study identified that the articulation between Higher Education, PIBID and the classroom practice gives the opportunity to understand and learn the profession in the relations between theory and practice, and in the planning and execution of pedagogical actions.

The purpose of this study was to verify the view of state public school teachers on the conditionings unfavorable to their performance and on the conditionings of student achievement in Prova Brasil. Seven schools participated in the research, from which three with high achievement and four with low achievement. For data collection, two questionnaires were applied to teachers. For the analysis of the quantitative data, the EncuestaFácil was used and for the analysis of the qualitative data, the technique of content analysis. The study revealed significant positive relationship between teacher stability at the same school and student high achievement, as well as unfavorable conditionings to teacher effective performance and favorable and unfavorable conditionings to student high achievement.

In this article it was aimed to analyze the influence of the managerialist in the management of Brazilian public schools, verifying to what extent this new tendency has modified the organization of the school and the work of the director. The management of public schools in Brazil has been changing in recent decades due to the implementation of management models in public administration. A bibliographic research was conducted on school management in Brazil. The empirical research was carried out through interviews with directors of public schools in the interior São Paulo, in order to obtain information regarding the organization of the school and the work of the director. The research data showed a great influence of managerialism in the management of Brazilian public schools.

Nesse texto apresentamos a resenha da obra, Babel: entre a incerteza e a esperança. Na referida obra o sociólogo Zygmunt Bauman estabelece um diálogo com o jornalista Ezio Mauro. No final da resenha apontamos algumas das produtividades desse livro para pesquisadores, especialmente no campo da Educação.

No início do século XXI, diversas têm sido as análises acerca das políticas e dos processos de escolarização. Interpreta-se que as condições do presente impõem desafios e dilemas incontornáveis aos fazeres escolares. Mariano Fernández-Enguita, consagrado sociólogo da educação espanhola, por meio da obra ora resenhada, propõe uma reflexão crítica acerca de duas clássicas questões no âmbito dos estudos e pesquisas em Educação, a saber: que educação temos? Qual educação queremos?Para tal, propõe rediscutir e repensar algumas premissas fundamentais do sistema educacional, mediante o questionamento a tópicos representativos, o enfrentamento de tabus e o posicionamento de pontos de interrogação sobre supostas coerências. Nesse sentido, abordam-se todos os agentes escolares – professores, alunos, famílias, etc. –, desnudando antigos debates e contextualizando-os nas tramas da sociedade contemporânea. Ao retomar temas do passado, busca-se diagnosticar o presente e colocar em prospectiva o futuro da política educativa a partir de um pensamento ativo, por isso o título A Educação na Encruzilhada.
