This article analyzes the denaturalization of the indigenous category in texts of Yásnaya Aguilar Gil (1981–), a Mixe intellectual and activist. For this analysis, we first develop why the category of indigenous can be understood from the perspective of the "construction of meaning" of cultural sociology. Next, we present a summary of the construction of the indigenous category during the 20th century in Mexico, given that Yásnaya Aguilar Gil responds to these conceptualizations. Below, the author's critiques are analyzed from Djamila Ribeiro's theoretical perspective on the place of speech. Thus, this article proposes that Yásnaya Aguilar Gil denaturalizes the category of indigenous people through complex thinking that combines sociocultural reflections and political positions, in which the inclusion of her own experience plays a decisive role.

The LiminaR number. Social and Humanistic Studies corresponding to July-December 2024, closes with a total of five articles, two documents and two reviews. In your eyes, readers, comes a round product, concluded and, on this occasion, shorter than usual; but I take this opportunity to share with you that, behind ostensible, there was a lot of work and care so that of the more than 30 proposals that were submitted to evaluation by blind academic peers, those that the experts considered that add substantially to the knowledge of the social and humanistic phenomena of the - preferably - southern Mexico and Central America were published. In that sense, the editorial team of the journal hopes that in this issue they will find quality research, that suggest hypotheses and solutions to the multiple current social, epistemological and human problems, and that they provide the opportunity to open discussions that expand our horizons.

The book From Indigenism to Humanism by Natalio Hernández offers a critical and transformative analysis of the evolution of indigenist policies in Mexico and Latin America. Through its seven chapters, Hernández reviews the paternalistic and assimilationist approach of 20th-century indigenism, in which state policies sought to integrate indigenous peoples without respecting their autonomy or cultural diversity. The author criticizes how, under these policies, indigenous people were viewed as passive subjects, while their languages and cultures were relegated or made invisible.

The article is the result of research with an ethnographic approach focused on the systematization and analysis of data on girls and women produced on a large scale, in a non-consensual manner and with sexual and erotic appeal.  These data circulate and is available to be shared massively through internet platforms, being part of the datafication phenomenon that contemporary society is experiencing. In this context, the research shows how the processes of data accumulation and commercialization intersect with gender issues. In this sense, the lack of neutrality of the algorithmic systems, and the lack of interest of large platforms in reducing digital violence against women reveals that the content produced about their bodies is part of the raw material that feeds data mechanisms.

This paper examines the evolving dynamics of mourning practices within the Chinese context, emphasizing the role of AI-driven digital technologies in the resocialization of the deceased. Drawing on the concept of mediational performance (Bauman, 2004) as a key feature of vernacular authority, we explore how digital resurrection through chatbots and avatars mediates the relationship between the living and afterlife by re-socializing the departed. The advent of digital technologies introduces a paradigm shift, as the AI avatars replicate the deceased’s social roles, generating an uncanny presence that re-enchants mourning rituals. This re-enchantment is predicated on the sacrifice of the visage (the social role of the deceased person) ultimately producing the illusion of an authentic face. Such agency enables a digital resurrection of the deceased that, while providing an illusion of continuity, threatens the fluidity of cultural memory. In turn, this process shapes the dynamic interplay between past and present through algorithmic simulation, prompting a critical re-evaluation of how vernacular authority is constructed and legitimized.

This article proposes an approach to Barcelona, digital edition, (2023-present), from a semiotic perspective that considers both the paratextual dimension and the parody of discourses, characters, and current events in Argentina. In particular, it will analyze the critical point of view that articulates the publication and the connotation procedures –such as the use of doctored images, absurd poses, hyperbolic headlines, vulgar language, among others– through which it constructs a distorted image of the body and face of Argentine President Javier Milei. The identification of the protagonist's face in a given social and political context allows access to that hive of semiotic cells, as Voto, Finol, and Leone (2021) point out. Finally, we will observe how the covers of Barcelona, digital edition, create multiple meanings thanks to a collage-like composition, which configures a fictional scene with small parts of decontextualized images that, in the newly created set, in their new assembly, produce a marked parodic and satirical significance of the president as a central figure of the media’s laughable.
