Objective: The purpose of this research was to identify the sale value of homes in the metropolitan area of the city of Puebla, using the hedonic price technique to determine a model that takes into consideration relevant variables that explain the housing prices.Methodology: An overall problem is land mismanagement. The location of the homes can affect their price. A hedonic price model helps to determine the relative importance of the variables in the final price. This information provides an initial perspective to the people who are interested in acquiring a home in the study area. The model was built based on the information collected from 182 properties and it was analyzed using theSPSS software version 28.0.0.0.Results: The most significant variables that determine housing prices, which presented a multiple valuation coefficient of 64.3%. The effect of the variables on the housing value was determined by means of elasticities.Study Limitations: There were no limitations for this report. Conclusions: The following variables were significant: new home, number of bathrooms, built‐up area, private security, distance to the downtown of Puebla, and distance to a park.

Objective: The effect of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) on the number of weaned piglets pre and post-outbreak, the return time to normal production, weaned cost as well as economic impact (implications) were analyzed. Design/methodology/approximation: Data were obtained from 24,597 litters from Mexican swine farms. Data was analyzed with a mixed model with repeated measure in order to determine the return to normal production. Production cost was calculated for weaned piglet using the general cost formula with a weighting factor of number of weaned piglets (NWP). The economic impact was estimated using the Mexican Input Output Matrix. Results: The average NWP pre-outbreak was 9.75 per sow, while during weeks 1 to 6 post-outbreak were 2.43, 2.07, 2.87, 4.42, 6.22 and 8.07 respectively with a cost production per week of $114, $134, $97, $64, $46, $36 and $33 USD. Farms with PED infection returned to statistical production stability in week seven. Limitations/implications: For each 77 thousand USD not invested in Pig Production was equivalent to a loss of 96 thousand USD in Demand and 12 675 in Supply. Conclusions: Statistical approach allowed to determine the returning time to normal productivity. Also, the cost methodology with emphasis in a weaned piglet allowed to determine the weaned piglet cost no matter in which physiological stage the contemporaneous sows were.

Objective: The characterization of black and red mangrove ecosystems in the coastal zone of Paraiso, Tabasco, Mexico. Design/methodology/approach: Four plots were randomly set in each mangrove ecosystem. Inside each plot, trees were counted, and measured for basal area, DBH, vegetation cover and height. We estimated seven diametric classes to calculate the relative species richness and emergence/disappearance dynamics in both ecosystems. Soil samples were survey at two depths and during different seasons (dry and rainfall), the samples were tested for organic matter (OM), soil organic carbon (SOC), nitrogen content (N), phosphorus (Olsen P), pH, exchangeable bases and humic and fulvic acids; with the objective to characterize nutrient flux dynamics between seasons and compare the two mangrove ecosystems.   Results: Red mangrove ecosystems contains higher OM during rainy season. Black mangrove ecosystems showed low contents of OM and exchangeable bases during dry season. More species richness was achieved by red mangroves, and black mangroves presented higher and thicker trees.                 Limitations on study/implications: Regional characterization of mangrove ecosystems provide information about nutrient flux, which is necessary to the adequate proposal of protection and conservation programs of these wetlands. Findings/conclusions: Dominant mangrove specie affect nutrient flux in soils associated to these ecosystems, suggesting they have specific functions in the ecosystem dynamics.

Objective: To optimize the composting process of sugarcane filter-pressed mud, straw, and ash as an alternative to reduce the environmental contamination of sugarcane cultivation in the Santa Rosalía sugar mill (Ingenio Santa Rosalía) of Chontalpa, Tabasco, Mexico.Design/Methodology/Approach: A completely randomized experimental design in a factorial arrangement was used, with compost mixtures and the aeration times as study factors. Ten treatments were generated with six repetitions each. The study variables were pH, organic matter (%), and nitrate (NO 3 - ) and ammonium (NH 4 + ) content. Results: The compost mixture factor had significant effects on compost quality parameters. Aeration times did not affect the quality of the different compost mixtures. Chemical characteristics of pH and organic matter did not present differences between the treatments. Study Limitations/Implications: The use of industrial sugarcane residues generates quality organic fertilizers through the composting process; therefore, it is necessary to test more residues, such as molasses and vinasses.Findings/Conclusions: The 100% sugarcane filter-pressed mud and the 100% sugarcane filter-pressed mud + 0.5% N treatments presented the highest amount of NO 3 - and NH 4 + and were therefore considered the best treatments. All treatments were classified as mature composts, rich in organic matter, with alkaline pH, and made ofsteady materials.

Abstract Objective: to set up a local market and to generate a value chain for moringa (moringa oleífera), as a raw matter in order to elaborate diet food supplements. Design/methodology/approach: a strategy for introducing moringa in Ometepe island was based on food value chain concept and sustainability issues. Four were the aspects for the analysis: a) production, b) sustainability, c) socio-economical and d) political. Equally, were identified the requirements and obstacles for adequately introduce moringa as a sustainable food product. Results: in order to approach a commercial production of leaf powder of moringa, it is desirable do no to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Profit from 1 ha of moringa will move to the local economy from USD $7500 to $ 8000 in the first year of production and between USD $14200 to $15200 in the following years. Limitations on study/implications: although moringa improves nutrition, consumption of fresh edible parts of moringa urges a change on cultural feeding habits. Findings/conclusions: leaf powder of moringa is a viable alternative as organic food and has the potential to reduce malnutrition in Ometepe. Once this product push commercially, net profit is between USD $5050 to $5060 in the first year of production and between USD $11200 to 12200 in each of the following years.

Objective: Identified the main alkaloids present in the seeds, calyx and corolla of E. americana and E. coralloides using HPLC/MS Design/methodology/approach: The seeds, calyx and corolla of both species were separated, the preparation of crude extracts of alkaloids was done according to the method described by Games et al. (1974).The crude extracts of alkaloids were analysed using a high performance liquid chromatograph interfaced to a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer. Results: The lactonic alkaloids -a-erythroidine and b-erythroidine were the main alkaloids found in E. americana whereas in E. coralloides is characteristic the presence of erythrinine and 8-oxo erythraline. These compounds can be used to distinguish both species. Limitations on study/implications: The use of HPLC-MS technique allowed the detection of a large numbers of structures of alkaloid natures in different parts of plants; however this technique is not available in any laboratory. Findings/conclusions: A large number of erythrinane type alkaloids were found in seed, calyx and corolla. The use of seeds and flowers in the preparations of diverse traditional foods can caused a tranquilizing and sedating effects in the consumers because the presence of lactonic alkaloids. The method of HPLC/MS allowed the detection of alkaloidal structures in flowers and seeds of this species that had not been identifies in previous studies.
