In the research is deals with the results of the study on the presence of women in Geology in Cuban scientific journals during the period 1968 to April 2016, based on an analysis of their scientific production related to Geology. It was studied and taken data from the National Serial Publications Register of Cuba, to select the Cuban scientific journals whose lines of research are related to Geology. The women were identified from an uprising of the members of the Cuban Society of Geology and bibliometric techniques (counting and analysis) were applied from which productivity indicators were determined (productivity per year, by authors and the most represented themes)Were identified 54 geologists, with a total of 103 scientific articles on Geology, located in 8 publications. Among the main results it had that the productivity of the geologists in Cuban scientific journals has remained irregular since its beginning and that the quality and relevance of each of the publications are endorsed by journals indexed in databases of international recognition. It concludes with the need to strengthen the presence of women in Geology in Cuban scientific journals, taking into account the value of their contributions to society.

This article aims at setting out the theoretical frameworks and results of a self-assessment and foresight activity carried out in the National University of Colombia, Medellin Campus Division of Libraries, which involved the participation of its staff. The methodology used responds to the application of prospective tools (IGO Matrix) in order to identify and to prioritize strategic elements leading to the definition of actions for the construction of an action plan, which favors the continuous improvement of the Division of Libraries for the 2016-2018 period. In the end, it is concluded that the participatory exercises of self-assessment and foresight, as input for planning, meaningfully contribute to the improvement of an organization.

The reference itself has undergone changes in recent years, which has added to its resources technology tools that have boosted its component services.The authors who have studied this discipline have several classifications of their services and sometimes differ in opinion each other, making it difficult to obtain a clear view of the difference between the reference rate being studied. So far, the study of reference was limited to this vision based on ratings; however, after the analysis of the evolutionary behavior of services and tools that make this discipline, intends, through this article, see the reference as a branch of the library that is constantly evolving.

Fue una mujer visionaria, y con un deseo de generar oportunidades para todas las personas, y se sorprendió mucho cuando le dijeron que la “biblioteca del trencito” llevaría su nombre. Por su labor social y educativa con la comunidad Herediana: adultos mayores, grupos de mujeres y niños, en el 2011 la Municipalidad de Heredia le otorgó la condecoración “Esmeralda Gutiérrez Flores.” Miriam fue una de las dos primeras mujeres en recibir este honor.

A study of five universities with the highest percentage of publications in first quartile journals according to the international ranking SCImago Institutions Rankings Iberoamerica 2014 (SIR Iber 2014) was carried out. The records from the SIR Iber 2014 were exported to a database and by means of a spreadsheet in Excel tables and graphs were elaborated that allowed to make statistical counts, frequency and cluster analysis; among others. A review of the size of production, scientific impact, thematic specialization and collaboration between universities at the national and international contexts was made.The study was carried out based on the review of the results obtained in the SIR Iber 2014, complemented with the data obtained from the Scopus and WOS databases related to the first five colombian universities published more papers in first-year journals Quartile (Q1). The main results show the universities with the best rank in the SIR Iber 2014 ranking according to the bibliometric criteria analyzed: international collaboration.

In this issue, Revista Bio Ciencias brings readers seven articles with diverse topics on biological sciences, from molecular to biochemical, and ecologicaland systematic aspects.The first manuscript corresponds to a review article that talks about the recurrent topic on insects’ resistance to pesticides, phenomenon that has provoked a higher and indiscriminate use of these substances.The second document, signed by Vega-Villasente F, et al, is a report on the presence of the ectoparasite Argulus spp. and how its infection provokes from tissue damages to behavior alterations in the native fish of the tropical Mexican Pacific.On the other hand, Galaviz-Villa et al, describe some virus factors of Vibrio parahemolyticus detected in oysters from the Gulf of Mexico, which can become a risk factor in feeding infections.In the ecological context and anthropogenic alterations, López-Monroy et al, argue on the enrichment of water bodies with elements such as nitrogen and phosphorus, these are responsible of the trophic alterations of this type of ecosystems; thus, they present as case study a hypersaline lagoon from the Venezuelan coast.The fifth document presented in this issue, Solis-Juarez et al, perform a morphological description of the lateral line of stingray Urotrygon rogersi, proposing a factor that could become key to distinguish species in this typeof organisms.In the zoo-technical and productive area, Alvarado-Canché et al, analyze the productive and feeding behavior of sheep in the Peninsula of Yucatan, proposing two species of gramineous that can be useful in both dry and rainy seasons.Finally, researchers from the State University of Nayarit propose methodological basis to study the seasonalvariations of the continental oceanographic platform, an important topic highly influenced and/or provoked by the phenomenon of climate change.Hence, Revista Bio Ciencias emphasizes its transdisciplinary vocation in the field of biological sciences, consolidating as a discussion and scientific analysis forum.
