Resumen
The paper aims to analyze the Spanish expedition headed by Ruy López de Villalobos, that left from New Spain in 1542. Two documents provide different points of view about the same expedition: (i) one official report, written by García Descalante Alvarado in Lisbon, in 1548; (ii) one letter, written by the Jesuit Cosme de Torres (1510-1570) from Goa (India), in 1549. The comparison of the texts shows how the rivalry between the Spanish and the Portuguese kingdoms were running at the time in the Pacific Ocean. Besides, the second document was edited during the 16th century, which reveals the discursive component in that rivalry.

Resumen
Saving and sanitary housing, replacing waste of money and tenements, were two great interests of political groups and the public sphere at the beginning the last century. In the era of ‘social issue’, the call and action to improve the quality of life of the urban population and moral improvement, it was a way to achieve social stability and workers adapted to the system of capitalist production. However, not everyone could respond to this call and become homeowners. Only sectors with saving capacity embraced a policy change that sought to moralize and change inappropriate behavior of the masses.

Resumen
This article examines the historical itinerary of Chiloe ham, a typical product that was produced in the southern border of the Spanish Empire, and became famous in the court of the Viceroy of Peru. How to raise and feed the pigs and cured ham with smoked technique is studied. The socioeconomic profile of producers and the characteristics of the markets of Chile and Peru is also identified.

Resumen
The present article, identifies, describes and analyzes the medical discourse of the decade of 1960 in Chile, and the subject of illegally induced abortions, the consequences for women’s health and the hospital system. These elements are highlighted in the representation of the woman who aborts and is emphasized in the description that the medical community make about the national context to implement family planning programs with international cooperation.
