This commentary deals with the training of legal professionals from two perspectives. On the one hand, where this training should be provided (macro perspective), and on the other and more briefly, which methodologies should be followed in each context (micro perspective). From the first perspective, the role of the university and other institutions is examined, as well as the need for a common training of a contentious-procedural nature. Viewed from a micro perspective, particular attention is given the need to adapt legal training to the growing specialization in practice areas, and to the progressive evolution of information retrieval in these matters.

This text is a balance of the chapter IV of Sebastián Figueroa Rubio's book Adscripción y reacción. First, it explains why it is necessary to defend an interpersonal conception of responsibility in this chapter, and then it criticizes the way Figueroa makes this defense in two ways. On the one hand, the identification of an intrapersonal conception with a metaphysical vision of the correctness of judgments about the attribution of responsibility is questioned. On other hand, it challenges the notion that any judgment about the attribution of responsibility is made from a perspective.

The assimilation theories that have been the dominant approach in U.S. sociology for studying the experience of migrants and their children in the United States are based on a paradigm centering on ethnic relations and assimilation as a process of incorporating into the “majority society.” In this article, the author discusses the central arguments of the contemporary versions of these theories in light of the main critiques of them, particularly those formulated from a paradigm centering on “race” relations, reproaching them for not taking seriously into account the determinant role of racialization and structural racism in the lives of migrants and their descendants.

Management of local governments in Cuba demands the use of novel instruments that contribute to the satisfaction of demands in the territories. Therefore, it is necessary to come up with processes for participation and multi-actor cooperation that become collective projects. This article establishes the basis for the contribution of this participation in local management oriented to senior citizens through a roundtable for concertation in the municipality of Placetas. The methodology used was participatory-action-research (PAR). This shows that this kind of mechanism is a methodological tool that allows for local, multi-actor participation for changing reality with a comprehensive vision, bringing together those on different levels of decision-making.

Crime in Mexico City has risen in recent years. In fact, according to both decision-makers and the accumulated evidence, we can say that criminal organizations exist in the city. Among the possible explanations one is the dispute over the corner-level drug sales. Until today, no research has considered the factors explaining why this practice is distributed non-randomly and is so concentrated at certain points in the region. To answer this question, the author uses specific theories that deal with the distribution of small-scale crime in urban contexts to make his argument. Methodologically, his research utilizes regression model adjustments and different statistical and spatial analytical techniques. He discusses the results in the light of theory and the Mexico City criminal context.

This article revisits the writings of José María Ramos Mejía, Carlos Octavio Bunge, Euclides da Cunha, and Laureano Vallenilla Lanz to display the heterogeneities in the psycho-sociological problematization of leadership as it emerges, often identified with the ideas put forward in the work of Gabriel Tarde and Gustave Le Bon. By comparing from the perspective of simultaneity the latters’ representation to the work of the former, the author shows that combining a psychosocial viewpoint with another socio-historical stance gave rise to another vision of leadership in Latin America, a vision sensitive both to the similarities between the leader and the masses and the reversibility and reciprocity of leadership.

Studies about organized-crime-linked violence has focused mainly on observing the structural factors involved, such as the conditions of illegal markets and the conflict between criminal groups and the armed forces. Most of these analyses have used quantitative and aggregate-data methodologies. And most of the qualitative designs have been limited to presenting empirical results. This essay, based on broad experience in the field, proposes developing holistic analyses based on three lines of study of criminal violence in local contexts: levels, dimensions, and mechanisms.

The aim of this article is to use the concept of modernity to analyze and question how the system of patents has sharpened the adverse social and economic impacts of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic since December 2019. The authors review the role played by bio-pharmaceutical companies in the international vaccine market and the intellectual property system associated with it. Finally, in the specific case of Mexico, they analyze the evolution of the intellectual property system and how vaccination has been a process that, while it has moved ahead using criteria based on sectors and age, continues to be slow, and there fore contagion and death rates continue to exist and private interests continue to prevail over social well-being.
