Resumen
This article studies the films based on Mia Couto’s literary works that are co-produced by Mozambique, although a special section is devoted to the Portuguese feature film Um rio (2005). The aim is to investigate how short and feature-length films have been facing the complex writing of Mia Couto, trying to find original solutions in some cases, whilst transposing in others the stories to generic moulds or dominant narrative schemes of the film industry. Thus, it is crucial to pay attention to the productive framework of each film in order to be able to study this greater or lesser approach to the writer’s themes and communicative structures.
