In the last decades, entrepreneurship has acquired great importance due to its relationship with growth and economic development of a country through the development of companies. The Entrepreneurship process involves the presence of lucrative opportunities and the presence of enterprising individuals. In this sense, the discovery of opportunities is a fundamental aspect in business activity thus becoming a key point in investigations, which have improved with data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). The main objective of this study is to analyze the factors of human capital and social capital that are related to the discovery of opportunities for women and men from Latin America starting from the GEM database project for eight Latin American countries through an analysis of logistic regression. Through logistic regression analysis, the significance of most of the variables considered in this study statistically are verified. It also confirms that the factors used in other studies and geographical fields are equally significant in Latin American countries.

The text contains a comparison between sociology and anthropology, keeping in mind that the name of the latter of these two disciplines has suffered many changes: in some places and at some moments its name has been “anthropology”, under other circumstances it has been called “ethnology” (not to mention the Americans’ tendency to call it “cultural anthropology”, whereas the British call it “social anthropology”; the confusion becomes almost full circle if we remember the French’s insistence on calling their discipline “ethnologie”, or the Germans’ distinction between “Volkswissenschaft” – the scientific study of the people, sociology – as opposed to their “Völkerwissenschaft” – the scientific study of the peoples, anthropology). The comparison is guided on two axes: on the one hand, the two disciplines are compared in their development through time, at different historical periods; on the other hand the comparison remains within the different tendencies, styles or paradigms, that run strictly parallel in both disciplines.

This paper presents a thoughtful and controversial proposal about aging, assuming Alzheimer’s disease as the nodal axis of the analytical process, approaching the problem from the perspectives of the social models of aging, the manner in which they are designed, spread and assumed in a global context dominated by the immediate, the frugal, the fast, the young and the short-lived. The dynamics of these models, the costs of social security and emotional balance of seniors are also deliberated in this paper. It discusses the concept of leisure linked to socio-economic and the retirement pension characteristics as well as love and sexual life associated with health taboos and myths on aging. The Alzheimer belongs to this socially constructed context and as impairment it will be explained from a cultural perspective.

This paper is part of a series of studies carried out on social policy at the Mexican federative entities and offers a collection of ideas supported on empirical evidence based on previous researches, interviews and academic and official documents analysis which aim to answer one question: Which are the most influential factors on innovation in social policy in the state of Guanajuato? Thus, the article begins with a conceptual discussion. It then continues with a brief description of the social policy path, making an emphasis on institutional innovation, boosted in the state of Guanajuato from 1991 to 2012. This is then followed by a third part, which, as a conclusion, an emerging model is offered to characterize the policy followed in the analysis period. This model represents the factors that caused the particular dynamics of social policy in Guanajuato

Industrial design is a professional activity responsible of meeting needs through the means of objects; which in turn is a factor that transforms and preserves culture through materiality. This paper analyzes industrial design and its intervention on the furniture industry of the city of Aguascalientes. In order to identify the main problems faced by the designer when making a project, and how these problems interfere with sustainable design in the cultural and ecological dimension. The paper shows an analysis obtained through the case study method and the Object’s Life History which enables the researcher to identify the designer’s activities’ impact, stage by stage: from the project’s inception to its interaction with the user. Every stage of furniture allowed to measure the designer’s importance and his participation on the company, as well as the impact of their decisions on furniture’s life cycle.

Violence is an old phenomenon which has been increasing and manifesting in different social environments and which has been affecting the life of children and adolescents. In Mexico, studies on violence have been focused at school level thus initiating actions for its attention. In this study, we have developed and implemented an interactive software that addresses violence among secondary school students and which allows, amongst others things, the identification of the adolescents’ role concerning violence; observer, aggressor or victim. 25 students from an official high school participated and qualitative analysis of the results was performed using Atlas Ti showing the ignorance that actors have about the role that unfolds before violence within the school either from the perpetrator, from the recipient or from the one that observes it. The results show a predominance of the role of spectator with 52%, 32% as aggressors and 16% as victims. The software shows its benefits as an efficacious tool in approaching the phenomenon of violence in adolescents.

The aim of this paper is to present a conceptual framework to analyze the efforts that universities make in the commercialization of research and its application in a specific case. The research strategy for the empirical analysis was based on a case study. Primary data was collected through personal interviews to the business incubator staff and a survey to entrepreneurs between March and December 2010. One of the findings is that the ITESM has directed its policies and organizational structures towards commercialization of research that is reflected in the number of patent applications in the emerging areas. However, the results obtained in the creation of research-based companies are very distant from the cases that internationally have inspired these structures within the university.

The implementation of software for controlling artificial pacemakers is a highly demanding challenge due to the risk that it implies. The goal of this project is to develop a pacemaker prototype able to provide an action potential according to the needs of heart cells. The development of this prototype, - from the modeling, supported by the simulation and by building electronic circuits-, is a first step to continue to evolve technologically towards a better pacemaker with decreasing software failures and more energy efficient.

From the theology and anthropology of the diocese, a few months before the visit of the Supreme Pontiff to Peru (18-01-2018), the author warns, locates and explains the growing position of Pope Francis’ model in the recent developments of the Catholic Church. It examines the historical background and rootedness of this model among the dioceses of Latin America and the Caribbean, and reveals its theological and pastoral implications in the process of reform of the structures of the Church that the first Latin American pope convened in his Evangelii Gaudium (EG 2013). Meanwhile, and decisively, the Pope Francis’ model has succeeded at mending and exposing the oppositions, inertias and contradictions of the dominant pastoral theological model.
