Resumen
Eutrapelia (Aristotle, Nicomachaean Ethics) means moderate pleasure. Initially it addressed activities such as jokes, games and the theatre; by the fourteenth century it was being applied to narrative fiction. It is argued in this article that although the word eutrapelia was of limited circulation, the concept of eutrapelia is reflected in apparently anodine words such as recrearse and pasatiempo which frequently occur in the prologues of the romances of chivalry.

This paper is in three parts. The first introduces the heterogeneous public of women that in Early Modern times were enthusiastic readers of chivalric narrative. The second deals with the crusade that moralists and churchmen led against the evil sect of Amadis and his descendants. The last focuses on some pages of an unpublished Mirror of the Christian Princess, concerning issues related to the ethics of reading and paying special attention to the romances of chivalry.

Resumen
The geography recreated by Father Miguel Daza in El Caballero de la Fe (1583) reveals a noticeable interest in reproducing in words the cartography of the known world, in accordance with the best scientific knowledge of his time. As this study aims to demonstrate, this is possible thanks to the skilful use that this clergyman from Sigüenza makes of various contemporary treatises, to which Daza turns for numerous geographical descriptions that convert his false chronicle into an authentic «map for sailors»

Resumen
Handel’s opera Amadigi di Gaula (1715) combines elements of various European cultures: a Spanish subject derived from the chivalric novel Amadís de Gaula by Montalvo; a French dramaturgy, based on La Motte’s Amadis de Grèce; an Italian theatrical genre, conceived for the English audience. In addition to showing some of the effects of this synergy of elements (narrative, spectacular, aesthetic), this paper discusses the seventeenth-century operas based on the Spanish novel, the absence of the subject in Italian opera production, and the choice of the French libretto as source text for Amadigi. Finally, analysing the changes made to the key sections of the French opera (divertissements) in the Italian one, the article reflects on the peculiarities of the two dramatic poetics.

Resumen
This paper studies the presence of the Amazon Calafia, queen of the island of California, and her army, in the Castilian chivalric romance (libro de caballerías), Sergas de Esplandián (1521) by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo. The study of the Amazon heroine -precursor of the future list of Amazons that would inhabit the chivalric romances of the Sergas- is linked to the update of the character based on a reading of Montalvo’s work by Blasco Ibáñez in his novel La reina Calafia (1923). Likewise, this paper seeks to understand the spaces and geographies derived from the motif of the threatening and unknown, tracing the myth of the savage incarnated in the Amazons.

Resumen
The chivalric romance Florisando (1510) is notable for the strong religious and doctrinal emphases that its author, Páez de Ribera, expresses throughout his book. On the one hand, this article aims to analyze the censure of elements of magic and sorcery in the prologue in the context of Catholic orthodoxy as a literary residue of the genre of the sermon. On the other hand, the figure of the knight is studied ranging from the miles christi, defender of Christian values, to the reconciliation of military and scholarly training.
