X-ray emission from cosmic sources indicates that these sources are heated to temperatures exceeding a million degrees or that they contain highly energetic particles. Recent X-ray telescopes, such as the Chandra X-ray Observatory and XMM-Newton, observed thousands of cosmic X-ray sources. These observations greatly impacted our understanding of the physics governing the evolution of structures across the universe. Here, I review and highlight some of these important results.

Mètode Science Studies Journal is a rare bird. Its pages want to reconcile the latest advances in research and the review of each particular science; mixes science communication and excellence research. It focuses on the intersection between academic research, scientific essay and science popularisation. As a matter of fact, its readers are not only experts, not even scientists in a broad sense, but anyone who tries to keep abreast of scientific news and wants to reflect on the challenges of contemporary culture. The quality standard awarded by Scopus, as well as other indexes, guarantees that our path – which we walk almost alone, since similar editorial projects are scarce – remains on track. We live in a world where the progress of science and technology goes faster and faster, where the need to reflect on their scope and impact turns more and more decisive every day. This issue of Mètode Science Studies Journal collects essential topics in current scientific research, such as the secrets of neuroscience, the connection between science and ideology, gender issues related to scientific research and violent dynamics in our universe. All in all, Mètode Science Studies Journal delves on the great problems of current research from its characteristic transversality, together with the contributions of artists to provide the last touch of beauty and exclusivity.Martí Domínguez. Editor-in-Chief of Mètode SSJ. University of Valencia (Spain).

The European University Association (EUA) highlighted in its document Ambitious funding for excellent research in Europe post-2020 that «education, research and innovation are central to the development and growth of any society». And they added: «Universities remain critical to safeguarding a democratic, tolerant and progressive society.» Undoubtedly, reaching a knowledge-based society is a challenge with many responsible agents. Among them, universities play a fundamental role. It looks like Spain has finally beaten Unamuno’s paradox: «Let them invent»; according to current data, we occupy the ninth or tenth position in the world in scientific production. But we still need to increase the impact of our science in the international field and, essentially, to make it serve society as indicated by the EUA. Pilar Campins. Vice-principal for Research and Science Policy of the University of Valencia (Spain).

I write this article in the midst of a controversy among Spanish scientists regarding an alleged fraud in the works of one of them. If the accusations were true, published works, allegedly manipulated, passed the most rigorous scientific excellence tests for years. Fraud and plagiarism in science deserve another reading as well: if in this day and age we see counterfeit euros, handbags, drugs, electronic components... Why not scientific works? The use of ICT (new Information and Communication Technologies) as teaching tools has established itself as an alternative within and outside the classroom that enables the development of significant and collaborative learning processes, and in which there is greater interaction between the student and the object of study. From this premise, a group of assistant and associate professors from the three degrees taught at Faculty of Communication Sciences at the University of Malaga have launched an innovative educational project involving the realization of videotutorials on different equipment present in audiovisual laboratories and of certain general communication skills useful for overcoming subjects framing in the degrees in Journalism, in Advertising and Public Relations and in Audiovisual Communication. After the execution of videoturials by students, under the supervision of the tutor of every single subject, Quick Response Codes (QR codes) were associated to them and located on every equipment and in all the classrooms. This article analyzes the first development process phase of the project, as well as the results of two different learning needs identification surveys sent to Faculty members (students and professors), which reveal on one hand, this type of methodologies implementation demand by the students, and on the other hand, professors positive attitude towards its use.

This bibliographical revision try to show a vision of the possibilities that offer the new technologies for reducing or stopping the symptoms of cognitive impairment in older people with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. Currently new technologies have much prominence and have become a tool with many possibilities for these people. We analyze different articles dealing with studying the use of new technologies in older people with cognitive disorders and do a literature review to provide more insight on data obtained until today on this field of research in occupational therapy. 204 articles were selected after a process of duplication and after passing different quality tools, leaving a total of 7 items. The results indicate that the new technologies contribute to reducing some symptoms associated with the disease, such as anxiety and depression, also improving certain cognitive functions in people who have mild to moderate cognitive impairment, so it is important to combine them with traditional therapies.

The objective of this article is the design of an action program for environmental education in the early childhood education, specifically for students of 5-6 years aged. So, it’s developed a qualitative study on the perception that future teachers of pre-school education have about environmental education in early age and the convenience to create environmental education programs with children just at the moment when they have incorporated into their schools. Based on the ideas given by the professional futures of the teaching of the first school stage, it has been proposed and designed an active program of environmental education, whose main idea was the use of a methodology based on the environmental spaces. The program has been developed so that classrooms could be transformed as spaces of environmental education, in which has worked a topic related to environmental education (recycling, water, biodiversity, pollution, etc.) in each one, determined in each case whether the activity in every space could affect to the planet and measure the intensity degree. Graphically, every space is represented by a circle above the Earth figure and students evaluated if the activity impacts over the characteristics of the planet and sustainable development. The interaction of each environmental space with the planet is represented by a colour concentric circle that surrounds our planet. The impact level is pointed by circles with different colours (green, yellow and red) in order to explain the level of the interaction between the environmental space activity and our planet.

The present Study focuses on improving performance and increasing the academic rate. It aimed to analyze the effects of the teaching practices of the methodology of scientific investigation for the thesis of academic graduation, and the theoretical one is based on the studies developed in the United States of America, European Union and Brazil. The research followed the perspective of the qualitative - quantitative methodology and followed the format of the American Psychological Association (APA) for textual writing. The questionnaire survey, the analysis technique and SPSS (Statistical Package for Sciences) software were used. The study shows that, in addition to the problem of curricular structuring, the passive form of the teaching process is done, they only provide quantitative results, on which they are not related to academic performance, evidencing the qualification needs for teachers in terms Of teaching science.

This article emerges from the project called “Analysis of the childhood educators training at CorporaciónUniversitariaMinuto de Dios. Bogotá – Colombia”, with the purpose of presenting the results related to the appropriateness of the formative proposal of childhood educators  at UNIMINUTO, according to the childhood’s training needs, as  a starting point to stablish the improvement actions in higher education. The mixed methodology is carried out through surveys, focus group and interviews applied to students, graduates, professors and administrators respectively. Finally, the resultsshow a positive assessment related to the relevance of the training proposal about the childhood’s changeable educative needs, while they are recognized as a social representation, completely determined by the historical moment and current social reality. However, it is identified a big improvement challenge, associated to the diversification of formative practice scenarios and the quantity of academic credits destined for the aforementioned purpose. That transformation need emerges as a response to the innovation demands in higher education.
