Resumen
This text is the translation of the original “Le conseil de Hobbes”, forthcoming in Derrida et la politique, edited by Fernanda Bernardo. It develops a Derridean hypothesis upon democracy and sovereignty through a reading of the figure of the counsel and the philosophy of language in Hobbes’s Leviathan. Perhaps, there is no philosopher who has defended the absolute and indivisible character of sovereignty more strongly than Hobbes. However, Hobbes recognizes that sometimes the sovereign cannot decide by itself and thus it faces with the necessity of taking into account the counsel of subjects. Does this recourse to others compromise the indivisibility of the sovereign power of decision? This essay proposes a reading of the conceptual figure of the counsel in the philosophy of language that Hobbes elaborates as a part of his political thought. It thus draws attention to Hobbes’s attempts to incorporating the rhetoric of the counsel into the structure of the sovereign power without harming the supremacy of the same. By showing how the distinctions that Hobbes introduces within the rhetoric of the counsel do not accomplish his aim to domesticate the risk that the counsel itself constitutes for the sovereign, this essay demonstrates that Hobbes’s political thought is irreducibly threatened by the deficit that constitutes and deconstitutes the sovereignty of the Leviathan. Scattering the instance of decision beyond the figure of the sovereign, the counsel appears in Hobbes’s text as an opening towards the irreducibility of democracy.

Resumen
When did we, as a field, turn “toward” ethics – if we can say that we did – and from what did we turn away? The turn to ethics tends to presuppose a turn away from politics or a substitution of one for the other. This essay focuses upon four types of readings of ethical philosophy in Latin American and Latinamericanist thought: theological, literary, political, and deconstructive. The first section evaluates Enrique Dussel’s assimilation of the work of Emmanuel Levinas into his own philosophy of Latin American liberation. The second section juxtaposes Dussel’s Levinasianism with Doris Sommer’s ostensibly very different Levinasian approach to literary studies in order to expose the common logic between the two thinkers. The third section unpacks the debate over the relation between ethics and political militancy that surfaces in Argentina following the publication of Oscar Del Barco’s letter “No matarás”. The final section considers several recent, more deconstructive approaches to ethics in Latin American Studies that refuse the logic of recognition-identification on which one paradigm of substitution turns, and which provide new, unfamiliar concepts of ethics, politics, and the relation between the two.

Resumen
This text attempts a first and preliminary answer to the “call”, implicit as well as explicit, in the motto Otherwise than Political; an answer that considers a series of problems related to what we call Infrapolitical Deconstruction. Identifying in Hegel the main articulation of modern metaphysics, the linkage between ontology and human history, the text tries to think a relationship to temporality and to historicity that is not attached to the metaphysics of the political, of politics and of polity. In order to achieve such a possibility, the text refers to Derrida’s reading of Heidegger and to the Heideggerian destruction of the metaphysical postulates feeding the political demand (will to power, subjectivism, total mobilization, etc.), highlighting that the question of différance not only supplements the “unfinished” project of Being and Time, but also detaches itself from Levinas’ effort to replace the role of fundamental ontology with ethics as prima philosphia. Infrapolitics would entail, in this constellation, a desistance from the political, and as such, a possibility for a thinking of history other than ontology.

Resumen
The article offers an explanation of Gérard Granel’s thesis on the “Marxist ontology”, proposed in his reading of Karl Marx’s Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. This thesis asserts that production is the sense of being. Attention is given to the different philosophical implications of such reading, from the debate settled with Althusser’s tesis on the “epistemological break”, through all the affinities that Granel observes between Marx and Heidegger’s thought (displacement of the subject, end of philosophy, ontological difference). From there on, the notion of “archi-politics”, coined by Granel, is addressed regarding Marxist ontology. It is shown how it is possible to understand the thesis of a “homology” between modern technology and capital, as well as to elucidate some of its strictly political consequences. The article concludes pointing out some critical points of Granel’s work regarding deconstruction; this is to say, regarding both Heidegger and Derrida.

Resumen
This essay develops a definition of “marrano infrapolitics” from the comparative analysis of Martin Heidegger’s two interpretations on the first choral ode of Sophocles’ Antigone, of 1935 and 1942 respectively. The essay argues that “to inhabit the open” keeps itself the difference between polis and politics and pushes it throw an existential “infrapolitization” of particular urgency. Today, the imposibility of the return to origin for any historical determination of the human unleashes into a condition of counter-community vagrancy that can be assumed under the name of marrano.

Resumen
Taking as starting point science and technology studies (sts)’ discussion about politics, this paper introduces the concept of infrapolitics to think, not only the role of things as political actors, but also the political role of the settings where the political action takes place. Following Agamben’s work around the bare life, the author states the indistinction between technology and politics at the origin of the qualification of life, taking as example the Aristotelian zoon politikón. From an aesthetic approach, it is analyzed an outstanding event of the last century, the arrest of Rosa Parks, to account for the participation of things in the infrastructuring of political events. The infrapolitics concept allows to ask ourselves about those things that actively work in silence to support certain forms of life. In this sense, it is an ecological concept that gives political character to things and the settings where political action takes place.
