The goal of the present work is to study some properties and applications of the Gamma Function, denoted by Γ. Initially, we use the Lebesgue Integral Theory in order to prove that the improper integral given by Γ is convergent. We describe the extended domain property of Γ, and we also deduce some elementary properties. We present two different ways of proving that B(x, y) = Γ(x)Γ(y)/Γ(x+y) , where B is the Beta Function. Finally, we include some applications of the Gamma Function, between them some serve up as tools on Reliability Engineering.

Resumo: Pesquisa qualitativa com o objetivo de conhecer e descrever as ações e estrutura física e de recursos humanos de um Serviço de Convivência e Fortalecimento de Vínculos (SCFV) junto a adolescentes de um município do estado de São Paulo. Para a coleta de dados foi realizada observação livre do espaço e entrevista semiestruturada junto a profissionais; a análise dos dados foi realizada por meio da análise de conteúdo, modalidade temática. A deficiência na formação intelectual e despreparo dos profissionais podem comprometer o cuidado e as relações. O estudo traz importantes contribuições para fomentar discussões sobre a proteção integral de crianças e adolescentes, voltando o olhar a aspectos específicos e contextuais de serviços de proteção básica a crianças e adolescentes.Palavras-chave: Adolescente; Vulnerabilidade Social; Família; Pesquisa Qualitativa. Perspective of living and bonds strengthening service for adolescentsAbstract: Qualitative research, aimed to know and describe the actions and physical structure and human resources of a Living and Bonds Strengthening Service (SCFV) for adolescentes in a municipality of São Paulo. For data collection, free observation and semi-structured interviews with professionals were performed; the analysis of the data was performed through content analysis, thematic modality. Deficiency in intellectual training and unprepared professionals may compromise care and relationships. The study highlights important contributions to foment discussions about the integral protection of children and adolescents, turning the look to the specific and contextual aspects of services of basic protection to children and adolescents.Keywords: Adolescent; Social vulnerability; Family; Qulitative research. 

Resumo: Neste trabalho pretende-se discutir o contributo da metodologia qualitativa na avaliação da eficácia dos processos de mudança quando se implementam programas psicoeducativos. Concretamente apresentam-se três recursos distintos: a) entrevista semiestruturada (construída a partir da abordagem fenomenológica e utilizada como avaliação pré-teste, pós-teste e follow-up num programa de educação parental); b) metodologia observacional (útil para avaliação formativa de programas e análise do processo de mudança de comportamentos ao longo dos programas); e c) Q-set da Resiliência Familiar (método misto, originalmente construído para a avaliação do funcionamento resiliente das famílias em risco psicossocial). Cada um dos recursos é discutido, ilustrando-se a sua utilização e a pertinência da sua aplicação no âmbito da avaliação da eficácia da intervenção psicoeducativa.Palavras-chave: Metodologia Qualitativa; Programas Psicoeducativos; Avaliação. Evidence-based psychoeducational intervention: the contribution of qualitative approachesAbstract: The main goal of this paper is to discuss the contribution of qualitative methodology for the assessment of the changing processes due to psychoeducational intervention. Three different resources are presented: a) semi-structured interview (it was built considering the phenomenological approach and was used for a pre-test, post-test and follow-up assessment in a parenting educational programme); observational method (useful for training programmes assessment and analysis of the process of behavior change occurred over the programmes); and c) Q-set of family resilience (mixed method, originally built for the evaluation of the resilient functioning of psychosocial risk families). These resources are discussed and is stated the relevance of their aplication in the assessment of psychoeducational intervention.Keywords: Qualitative Method; Psychoeducational Intervention; Assessment. 

Resumo: Descreve o percurso teórico-metodológico de uma pesquisa qualitativa que teve como proposta compreender uma circunstância de migração compulsória no sertão do Ceará, Brasil. Essa migração foi acompanhada, ao longo dos anos de 2007 a 2011, no município (Nova Jaguaribara) construído pelo Governo do Estado para abrigar as pessoas deslocadas do espaço anterior, que foi alagado em decorrência da construção da Barragem do Castanhão. Buscou-se, no percurso metodológico, desenvolver uma “etnografia da mudança” para possibilitar descrever e analisar as transformações ocorridas nos modos de vidas dos grupos analisados. Para tanto, foram adotadas estratégias etnográficas, como observação, diário de campo e entrevistas, ensejando captar o dilema que os sujeitos sociais vivenciaram.Palavras-chave: Pesquisa Social; Etnografia da Mudança; Migração Compulsória. Ethnography of change: observations about the qualitative approach on the circumstance of compulsory migrationAbstract: Describing the theoric and methodological course of a qualitative research that sought to understand the circumstance of compulsory migration in the backwoods of Ceará, Brazil. This migration was studied from 2007 until 2011, at the Nova Jaguaribara county, constructed by the government of the state to shelter the people who were displaced from the previous location, due to the flood caused by the Castanhão's Dam. It was sought to develop an ethnography of change, in a methodological course, to analyse, describe and enable the transformations occorrued in the lifestyle of the studied groups. Ethnographic strategies were adopted such as, observation, field diaries and interviews seeking to capture the dilemma lived by the social subjects.Keywords: Social Research; Ethnography of Change; Compulsory Migration. 

Resumo: O antropólogo confronta-se, desde sempre, com a incapacidade de participar da condição das pessoas que vivem situações de vulnerabilidade, concretamente, devidas a problemas de saúde, ao sofrimento de situações de violência ou mesmo à experiência da clausura. Neste artigo argumenta-se que este ângulo morto da análise antropológica pode ser relativamente superado através de uma abordagem autoetnográfica. Descrevendo a sua experiência pessoal num caso de falência da função tiroideia, o autor fornece indicadores que poderão ajudar a analisar em profundidade as experiências das pessoas que vivem situações de vulnerabilidade.Palavras-chave: Autoetnografia; Procura de ajuda em saúde; Vulnerabilidade; Discursividade. Autoethnography as a methodological option in the anthropological study in situations of vulnerability: an example on a case of hypothyroidismAbstract: Anthropologists have always been confronted with the inability to participate in the condition of people living in situations of vulnerability, concretely, due to health problems, the suffering of situations of violence or even the experience of closure. In this paper it is argued that this blind spot in anthropological analysis can be relatively surpassed through an auto-ethnographic approach. Describing his personal experience in a case of thyroid function failure, the author provides indicators that may help to analyze in depth the experiences of people living in situations of vulnerability.Keywords: Autoethnography; Help-seeking behaviors; Vulnerability; Discursivity. 

Resumo: Nas últimas décadas ocorreu uma transformação no modo de estudar a infância. De investigações ‘sobre’ crianças passou-se a investigações ‘com’ e ‘pelas’ crianças. Esta mudança comportou uma série de adaptações e inovações metodológicas, entre as quais se encontram a combinação de técnicas de elucidação com técnicas mais tradicionais, como focus groups ou entrevistas. Este artigo pretende contribuir para a reflexão acerca da implementação deste tipo de iniciativas metodológicas em investigação qualitativa, através de uma revisão da literatura recente sobre elucidação gráfica e da apresentação de uma investigação própria, na qual se incorporaram desenhos, vinhetas e diagramas, e se propõem reflexões sobre oportunidades e desafios que esta opção metodológica pode criar.Palavras-chave: Elucidação gráfica; Desenho temático; Vinheta; Diagrama interativo; Crianças. Drawings, vignettes and diagrams: listening to children’s narratives through graphic elicitationAbstract: The way of studying childhood has evolved in the last decades. Most inquiries are no longer ‘about’ children but ‘with’ and ‘for’ children. This transformation has led to a series of methodological adaptations and innovations, among which we can find the combination of elicitation techniques and other, more traditional, techniques, such as focus groups or interviews. The aim of this article is to contribute to the reflection on the opportunities and challenges that these methodological initiatives can provide. Initially, a literature review on graphic elicitation techniques is presented. Subsequently, a personal research experience, in which drawings, vignettes and diagrams were incorporated, is displayed in order to illustrate some of the streghts and limitations found with regard to this methodological option.Keywords: Graphic elicitation; Thematic drawing; Vignette; Interactive diagram; Children. 

Resumo: O objetivo desse artigo é refletir sobre a concepção dialógica de linguagem e de ciência à luz dos estudos bakhtinianos para a Arquivologia, assumindo uma postura de cooperação entre as áreas interdisciplinares. As bases do pensamento do Círculo de Bakhtin são construídas a partir da crítica às duas tendências filosóficas: a estilística clássica que se baseia no idealismo e o estruturalismo situado nos estudos do sistema abstrato. O objeto é ser expressivo e falante, e a concepção de linguagem é entendida como processo de interação social fundamentada no diálogo com o outro (relaciona-se à ideia de sujeito social, histórica e ideologicamente situado, que se constitui na interação com o outro) e na unidade das diferenças.Palavras-chave: Ciência; Linguagem; Diálogo; Arquivologia; Interdisciplinaridade. The dialogical conception of language and archivology: interfaces in construction of knowledgeAbstract: The aim of this article is to reflect on the dialogic conception of language and science in the light of the Bakhtinian studies for the Archivology, assuming a position of cooperation between the interdisciplinary areas.The bases of Bakhtin's Circle thought are constructed from the critique of two philosophical tendencies: the classic stylistic that is based in idealism and the structuralism situated in studies of unspecific system. The object is to be significant and speaker, and the conception about language can be understood by a process of social interaction that is based in discussion with the other (it is associated with the idea of social subject, historic and ideologically situated, that is formed in interactin with the other) and in the unity of differences.Keywords: Science; Language; Discussion; Archivology; Interdisciplinarity. 

Resumo: Numa casa de acolhimento de crianças e jovens, no Porto, procurou-se capacitar os mesmos de competências para a vida através da relação com o saber em contexto não formal. O enquadramento que fundamentou a ação sustenta-se em dois temas: o da infância e acolhimento institucional e o da relação epistemológica com o saber. A intervenção situa-se no paradigma fenomenológico e teve como estratégia a investigação-ação procurando incluir os sujeitos no desenho e desenvolvimento do projeto. O projeto envolveu catorze sujeitos sendo o objetivo mediar a relação destes com o saber escolar e a escola, combatendo o baixo rendimento e insucesso escolar. A relação dos sujeitos com a escola é caracterizada pelas relações afetivas.Palavras-chave: Intervenção comunitária; Crianças e jovens em acolhimento residencial; Educação não formal; Saber. The search of sense in the learning of children and young people inchildren’s homesAbstract: At a children´s home in Porto, the project sought to provide them with basic and fundamental skills for life through the relation with knowledge in non-formal context. The theoretical framework underlying the action is based on two themes: the theme of childhood and residential care; and the epistemological relationship with knowledge. The intervention is located in the phenomenological paradigm and had the action-research strategy to include the subjects in the design and development of the project. The project involves fourteen children and the main aim is to mediate their relationship with school knowledge and the school itself, fighting low performance and high failure. Resumo: Este ensaio sobre amostragem em pesquisa qualitativa e sobre o conceito de saturação discute as seguintes questões: em que medida as interlocuções individuais que se obtêm no campo podem ser entendidas como revelações do grupo e permitir inferências sobre ele? Quais seriam as precondições para uma amostra suficiente e fidedigna? Num projeto, deve-se colocar previamente o número de pessoas a serem entrevistadas e um tempo determinado para a observação de campo? Quantas entrevistas e quanto tempo de observação são necessários para um bom trabalho de campo? Quando se deve parar de buscar mais dados? As respostas são balizadas na literatura e na experiência pessoal da autora, mostrando que a quantificação a priori foge à lógica que preside os estudos qualitativos.Palavras-chave: Pesquisa qualitativa; Estudos qualitativos; Amostragem; Saturação. Sampling and saturation in qualitative research: consensuses and controversiesAbstract: This essay on sampling in qualitative research and on the concept of saturation discusses the following questions: To what extent individual interlocutions obtained in the field can be understood as revelations of the group and allow inferences about it? What would be the preconditions for a sufficient and reliable sample? In a project, should the number of people to be interviewed and the time for field observation be established previously? How many interviews and how much observation time are needed for a good fieldwork? When should the search for more data be discontinued? The responses are based on the specific literature and on the personal experience of the author, showing that, in principle, quantification escapes the logic of qualitative studies.Keywords: Qualitative research; Qualitative studies; Sampling; Saturation. 

Resumo: Nesse trabalho revisaramos algumas teorias para entender as origens e desdobramentos mais recentes do paradigma sistêmico. Bertalanffy introduziu as hipóteses dos sistemas abertos e a teleologia. Le Moigne tratou de desenvolver um modelo para o estudo de um objeto ou fenômeno sistêmico. Maturana e Varela, a teoria da autonomia do ser vivo e a construção do conhecimento. Se o trabalho de Bertalanffy foi recebido com críticas, trabalhos posteriores contemplaram elementos suficientes para o reconhecimento do fenômeno sistêmico, em constante interação com o ambiente, exercendo sua autonomia, construindo e se reconstruindo através de suas interações, o que implicou a (re)introdução da complexidade, a necessidade de ampliar o estudo da organização e, finalmente, a liberdade criadora com os outros, inserida no mundo.Palavras-chave: Paradigma sistêmico; Autonomia; Complexidade; Modelo; Sistemas. The new systemic paradigmAbstract: In this paper, we review some theories to understand the origins and recent developments of the systemic paradigm. Bertalanffy introduced the hypotheses of open systems and teleology. Le Moigne sought to develop a model for the study of an object or systemic phenomenon. Maturana and Varela, the theory of the autonomy of the living being and the construction of knowledge. If Bertalanffy's work was received with criticism, later work contemplated sufficient elements for the recognition of the systemic phenomenon, in constant interaction with the environment, exercising its autonomy, building and rebuilding through its interactions, implying the (re) introduction Complexity, the need to broaden the study of organization, and finally, creative freedom with others, inserted in the world.Keywords: Systemic paradigm; Autonomy; Complexity; Model; Systems.
