The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it a significant effect on professional associations’ ability to carry on their normal activities in forging professional competence among their members. We assess Nigerian professional accounting and finance associations’ response and coping pattern as well as readiness to sustain members’ professional competence in an emergency. Using a two-pronged approach, we reviewed activities – response and coping patterns – of professional associations in Nigeria. First, we crawl their online presence (websites and social media handles) for activities relating to initial and continuing professional development. Secondly, we administered a questionnaire to aspiring professionals and professionals to understand from an insider point of view the activities of their professional association in sustaining their professional competence. Aspiring professionals and professionals believe their professional associations can guide them through the pandemic and emerge stronger, however there are mild concerns. We also found that Zoom is the application of choice for virtual events among professionals in Nigeria. The paper provides evidence-based realities among the major accounting and finance-based professional associations, giving insight to inform policy and strategy going forward.

It is apparent the industrial processes transformations caused by industry 4.0 are in advance in some countries like China, Japan, Germany and United States. But, in return, the developing countries, as the emergent Brazil, seem like to have a long way to achieve digital era. Considering manufacturing processes as the starting point the rise of industry 4.0, this research aims to show a review about the most important technologies used in smart manufacturing, including the main challenges to implement it at Brazil. The papers were collected from Web of Science (WoS), comprising 114 articles and 2 books to underpin this study. This exploratory research resulted in the presentation of some challenges faced by Brazilian industry to join the new industrial era, such as poor technological infrastructure, besides lack of investment in technologies and training of qualified people. Even though the primary motivation of this research was to present a panorama of smart manufacturing for Brazil, this study results contributes to the most of emergent countries, bringing together general concepts and addressing practical applications developed by several researchers from the international academic community.

Public personnel administration draws heavily from private personnel administration and using such knowledge for successful management within the permanent bureaucracy. Professional management of people in government is fundamental towards public service performance and the public good. From the nineteenth century and now public sector human resource management continuous to move away from the traditional personnel management approach and heading towards the new public management paradigm for improving public service performance. With 219 participants and by the exploratory research design, the result of the study indicates strong positive correlation between public personnel administration and public service performance. The study suggests that further study could examine the relationship between law making and its interpretation on public sector human resource management. It recommends that public personnel administration should learn more from the new public management approach to enhance effectiveness.

The paper briefly presents some models of aircraft considered avant-garde in 2020, and it is part of the reviews on news in aviation and aerospace. It briefly presents some basic features, news, and more important data for each new model on display, so that the reader can get an image of that model but also an overall one, to compare different models from a particular manufacturer with each other, as well as with those belonging to another manufacturer. Aircraft manufacturers are constantly concerned with modifying their aircraft and building other new models that meet customer requirements as much as possible, but at the same time lead to reductions in total fuel consumption used in flight, to reduce pollution due to flights and the negative effects on planetary ecosystems, as well as the increase in the quality and safety of air travel.

Building energy consumption represents much of the total energy consumed in advanced countries. For this reason, the aim of this paper is to study the energy consumption profile by day for each domestic appliance: controllable appliances (heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electric water heater, dishwasher, washing machine) and non-controllable appliances (oven, TV, PC, iron, refrigerator and freezer) where the modeling and the simulation based on MATLAB/Simulink software are presented.

In the health area, technological and scientific advances are paramount for the development of innovative technologies used in the treatment of diseases. Likewise, several categories of technologies are also useful in numerous activities for organizational management, resources management (medicines, data and information sets and people, among other) in the health field. Technologies are essential in work environments, but they also have implications, directly, for professionals who handle and operate them. Therefore, this study aims to identify the main technologies used by nursing professionals (nurses and technicians in nursing) and their impacts on work. Results were obtained through literature review, prioritizing case studies. Was carried out in at Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Emerald and Science Direct. Two analyses were conducted, bibliometrics, in order to explore the main data of the articles (years of publications, scientific journals and more frequent terms) and qualitative (highlight the main contributions of articles regarding the researched topic). In qualitative analysis, the articles were submitted to filtering procedures, ordered and selected for full reading. Technologies have potential to improve or create obstacles to the performance at work, health and well-being of the professionals. Health Information Technology was widely disseminated in case studies analyzed; it reduces informational and technical burden at work, access to support from colleagues in large centers and decision-making support, among others positive impacts.

This study considers a customer complaint dataset due to the technical services provided by a telecommunications company collected for 134 consecutive weeks from the first week of January 2018 up to the year 2019. The total count of weekly complaints is the sum of different causes, which characterizes compositional data. The data was analyzed assuming a Poisson regression model for the weekly total complaint count data in presence of a random factor and compositional models both under a Bayesian approach using existing MCMC (Monte Carlo Markov Chain) to get the posterior summaries of interest. The obtained results are of great importance to improve the service quality of the company.

In this paper, we propose an innovation strategy in the industry (case of the scheduling problem on two parallel identical machines), with the objective of minimizing the weighted sum of the end dates of jobs, this problem is NP-hard. In this frame, we suggested a novel heuristics: (H1), (H2), (H3), with two types of neighborhood (neighborhood by SWAP and neighborhood by INSERT). Next, we analyze the incorporation of three diversification times (T1), (T2), and (T3) with the aim of exploring unvisited regions of the solution space. It must be noted that job movement can be within one zone or between different zones. Computational tests are performed on 6 problems with up to 2 machines and 500 jobs.
