Resumen
Introduction: Women have health needs that vary according to their life course and intimate partner violence. Objective: To identify the contextual characteristics in which prenatal care is provided to women with intimate partner violence. Materials and Methods: A qualitative ethnographic study based on participant-focused observation was conducted throughout childbirth preparation course sessions and waiting rooms in five healthcare institutions in Cali, Colombia. Results: The following three dimensions were identified in the care context: (a) environment where care is provided, (b) power relations and (c) care dynamics. Findings suggest a traditional context in prenatal care with a predominance of a biomedical model. Results: three dimensions were identified regarding the care context: (a) The Environment where the Care is provided, (b) Power Relationships and (c) Dynamics of Care. The results show a traditional context in prenatal care with a predominance of a biomedical model. Discussion: The findings show the complexity of care in health institutions and a traditional context in prenatal care with a predominance of a biomedical model. Conclusions: During sessions held between women and healthcare personnel, intimate partner violence was not identified as the relationship was measured by a lack of knowledge of their needs, vertical relationships, power and non-assertive communication. For the adoption of support and accompaniment actions, it is necessary to recognize the importance of healthcare with a gender, differential and intersectional approach. In addition, in favor of women’s autonomy and dignity, it is necessary to strengthen the culture of respect and empathy towards users.

Resumen
Introduction: Social representations are constructions that can determine the behaviors that older people carry out, including self-care behavior. Objective: This study is aimed to describe emergent representations of health, illness and quality of life and how these relate to self-care practices in a group of older people in the eastern region of the Mendoza province. Materials and Methods: A qualitative grounded theory study was conducted based on an emerging design with 30 people over 60 years old in the eastern region of the Mendoza province, who were not institutionalized patients and had not been diagnosed with a mental illness before. A non-probability voluntary response sample was used for selection and a semi-structured interview was applied as an instrument. Results: Older people were found to have a multidimensional social representation of health, illness causes and quality of life, including physical, psychological, social and cultural elements in their representations, which is in line with self-care strategies that older people consider important to carry them out. Discussions: Although the psychological dimension was given priority in health and illness social representation, the physical self-care strategies were excelled. Conclusions: Understanding the social representations of health, illness and older people's quality of life can be a valuable tool when designing educational strategies and health and self-care promotion for such population.

Resumen
Introduction: Neurosurgical patients are at high risk of local and systemic complications that can increase the length of hospital stay and the risk of death. This study aims to assess the incidence of healthcare-associated infections and associated risk factors in patients undergoing neurosurgery. Materials and Methods: Prospective cohort study, carried out in a large hospital in the state of Rondônia, from 2018 to 2019, including 36 patients. Results: The incidence of healthcare-associated infections was 19.4 per 100 patients (95%CI: 8.19 – 36.02). Having used a nasoenteral tube increased the risk of HAI by 6.5 times (95% CI: 1.26 – 33.5), mechanical ventilation increased the risk by 5.52 times (95% CI: 1.23 – 24.6) , the presence of tracheostomy increased six-fold (95%CI: 1.34 – 26.8) and performing an invasive examination increased the risk of infection by 6.79 (95%CI: 1.31 – 35.05). In the adjusted analysis, the variables did not show statistical significance. Discussion: The incidence of infections was higher than in regions with better socioeconomic conditions, which may be related to lower adherence to good care practices. Conclusion: In neurosurgery, in addition to surgical site infections, other topographies should also be considered for the investigation of infection. The use of invasive devices was associated with the occurrence of infections related to health care, so good practices in their use are essential when indicating and using these devices.

Resumen
Introduction: Using information and communication technologies in nursing educational interventions facilitates self-management processes to adapt to chronic health conditions. Objetive:To evaluate the effect of a nursing educational intervention to promote self-management and prevent diabetic foot ulcers in Colombian adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus through information and communication technologies. Materials and Methods:A quasi-experimental, pre- and post-intervention study was conducted with 82 adults attending the chronic patient consultation of a second-level hospital in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. Participants were randomly allocated to the experimental and comparison groups. Results: There were no significant differences between the experimental and the comparison groups in terms of preintervention self-management scores. However, the experimental group’s mean self-management score was significantly higher than the control group’s six weeks after the intervention (p<0.005); the primary outcome was self-management behaviors from foot care. Nonparametric Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests were used. Discussion:Nursing interventions should be supported by theoretical approaches specific to the discipline, which allow visualizing specific results, in this case self-management, which requires strategies such as knowledge, skills and social support that will support adaptation to situations of chronic illness. Conclusions: The educational intervention based on the use of information and communication technologies improved self-management for preventing diabetic foot injuries, achieving a change in people’s behavior.

Resumen
Introduction: Dental professionals are exposed to different noise levels in their work environment during their clinical practice, mainly caused by dental instruments and rotary instruments used on a daily basis. Noise levels may vary according to the type of clinical specialty. Objective: To determine noise levels during dental procedures in dental school clinics. Materials and Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted by means of non-probability convenience sampling to determine dental specialties to be evaluated. BENETECH GM1352 30-130dB Digital Sound Level Meter with accuracy +/- 1.5 dB and A weighting was used for measurements. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used to identify differences in noise levels among dental specialties. Results: Measured median noise level was 75.94 dB (RCI 74.21 -77.51), dental surgery was identified to have the highest noise among clinical specialties (median 77.34 and RCI 76.44 -79.4 dB). Conclusions: Dental surgery, oral rehabilitation, endodontics and pediatric dentistry were found to be the clinical specialties where noise exposure is within the limits established by Colombian regulations for noise in the workplace.

Resumen
Introduction:The continuity of care (CC) is understood as the adaptation of caregivers and their support network to the new health-disease situation. Objetive:To understand nurses’ perception of the applicability of the continuity of care process. Materials and methods: Study with a qualitative and phenomenological approach. The subjects of the study were nurse coordinators. Semi-structured interviews were conducted. Atlas.ti was used for data analysis. Results: The participants partially applied continuity of care due to a lack of clarity of the concept, disconnection between primary health care and specialized care, and administrative limitations. The continuity of care is practiced in a disorganized and empirical manner. Discussion: There is a clear need for implementing communication strategies between the different levels of care to strengthen teamwork and promote patient self-care. According to the participants, the information is not shared among the different levels of care, hindering the continuity of patient care. Conclusions: The application of the continuity of care process is fragmented and disorganized. Based on evidence from other countries, the participants recognized that if continuity of care were applied in Colombia, it would improve the quality of services and the quality of life of patients.

Resumen
Introduction: Birth, hospitalization, transition from hospital to home and care for preterm infants are critical events for parents. Materials and Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted with four fathers and 12 mothers who had experienced preterm infant care. Semi-structured interviews were conducted between March and October 2020 and grounded theory tools were used for analysis. Results: The following four categories were identified: coping with preterm birth, experiencing day-to-day prematurity in neonatal units, empowering parents to care for preterm infants and caring at home. The category for empowering parents to care for preterm infants was identified as the central category in the experience. Discussion: Experiencing preterm birth is complex and dynamic as it involves a high emotional burden for parents. Caring for preterm infants requires developing specific skills before discharge in which empowerment plays a central role. Parental empowerment facilitates this transition supported by nursing accompaniment, information provided, involvement in the care of their child in the neonatal unit, family support and individual conditions of parents. Conclusions: Experiencing parental empowerment in the care of their preterm infants is a key element that facilitates the transition from hospital to home and encourages the development of home care skills.

Resumen
Introduction: Considering that the existence of anatomical variations causes endodontic treatment failures, therefore it is important to diagnose them. This study aimed to determine the reproducibility and criterion validity of phosphor plate radiographs and sensor-based radiovisiography to identify anatomical variations detected by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in lower premolars. Materials and Methods: 140 premolars images were obtained by CBCT, radiographs and radiovisiography. Independent interpretation was performed by two endodontists to evaluate the Vertucci classification and ramifications. Intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility were determined. Sensitivity, specificity and areas under the receiver-operator curve (AUC) were calculated using CBCT as the gold standard. Results: Intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility was higher for radiography. For Vertucci type I, radiography showed higher sensitivity (94.7%), specificity (64.9%) and AUC (0.795) than radiovisiography (89.3%, 62.2% and 0.757, respectively), similarly for type V (radiography at 69.2%, 93% and 0.8111; radiovisiography at 50%, 84.2% and 0.671, respectively). None of the techniques contributed to the diagnosis of type III (AUC < 0.5). Ramifications were infrequent (2.9%) with a low level of detection (sensitivity at 25% for radiography and 0% for radiovisiography). Discussion: This is the first study to evaluate the reproducibility and validity of these two radiographic techniques compared with CBCT for the detection of anatomical variations in teeth. Conclusions: Phosphor plate radiography showed higher reproducibility and validity for the diagnosis of Vertucci types I and V, which were the most frequent premolar variations found. This is a dissertation for the Master’s degree in Dentistry available in the repository of the Universidad Santo Tomas, Bucaramanga campus.

Resumen
Introduction: Health systems were challenged to develop organizational strategies for the delivery of surgical care. Objective: to present the strategies of health services with regard to surgical care practices in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: An integrative review was conducted following six stages; the search for articles was performed using the Virtual Health Library, SciELO, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The science descriptors adopted were “Surgicenters” and “Coronavirus Infections,” according to the DeCS-MeSH terms system. We selected 60 articles from 405 studies found. Results: The main strategies used by the health services were to suspend and postpone elective surgeries during waves of disease transmission and careful screening of patients with COVID-19 before and after surgery. Discussion: The suspension and postponement of elective surgeries should be carefully evaluated by the health team, individually for each patient since non-urgentclinical situations may worsen over time, increasing the chances of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Conclusion: screening patients and health professionals for COVID-19, according to the reality of surgical units, centers or outpatient clinics, is an important strategy to avoid contamination of these subjects. The suspension and postponement of elective surgeries, during the waves of contagion by COVID-19, is recommended to increase the capacity of beds available for critically ill patients hospitalized for this disease. This recommendation also helps in the reassignment of professionals in this sector to the units with the highest demand for health care.
