The research objective was to determine evidence of the ethical and legitimate use of information in academic documents of high school students at a private institution in Mexico. The study employed a qualitative approach based on a documentary research design to select and analyze documents in a case-type sample. The evaluation of the information was based on a bibliometric analysis, using the seventh edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) citation and reference system. The results revealed significant discrepancies in the number of citations in the text and the references listed, as well as an incorrect use of the APA style and a high percentage of undated digital resources, most of which were in Spanish. It is concluded that good and bad practices related to academic integrity exist, but there is also a lack of adherence to APA referencing norms. We recommend that the institution implement actions aimed at reviewing and monitoring the regulations in the educational field, promoting awareness of the importance of academic integrity, and strengthening information competencies.

Based on the critical analysis of a set of historical sources not yet considered in previous research, this article delves into the principles of bibliographic collection that defined the character of the collections of the Public Library of the Province of Buenos Aires (La Plata, Argentina) between 1884 and 1905. We are interested in knowing what state and intellectual interests determined which cultural repertoire was truly important to conserve. Firstly, it is established that concerns about the construction of a national narrative led to priority being given to works and documents with limited circulation and high heritage value. Secondly, the interest in consolidating a scientific culture led to equal importance being given to the collection of modern works. In conclusion, it should be noted that the limit to the organizing power of this ideal conception was determined by the material conditions of the formation of the collections.

This article proposes a standardized management model for the exhibition catalogs of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Cuba, based on the implementation of international metadata standards that promote interoperability, preservation, and open access to data. Deriving from an analysis of the museum catalogs, a methodological proposal was designed and validated in the context of digital data preservation. Key deficiencies in the structure of the catalogs were identified, including a lack of standardization and absence of interoperability between platforms. The rich international collaborations of the National Museum and its global cultural projection were also highlighted. Implementing a standardized metadata system will improve accessibility, data reuse, and preservation at the National Museum. This model could serve as a reference for other museums, since it strengthens cultural data infrastructure and promotes global access to artistic heritage.

The historical memory of Spain is a complex and essential narrative in the era of transmedia. This study analyzes its nature as a transmedia action within the digital realm, focusing on the experiences of relatives of Spanish exiles in Mexico. The objective is to identify the attributes that reconfigure and reframe family narratives from a transmedia perspective. A qualitative and descriptive methodology is employed using a focus group at the Ateneo Español de México, which included both institutional representatives and external individuals to explore the perceptions and innovations in their storytelling of memory. The results indicate that their narrative is not politicized, which highlights its educational and cultural values resulting from a renewal in its activism. These narratives contribute with new perspectives, strengthening memory within complex contemporary contexts. Their significance lies in their capacity to promote dialogue and critical reflection on history, which are aspects still overlooked in Spain. In conclusion, narrative analysis in the digital age helps to expand the digital culture of memory and reeducate on the historical narrative.

This article analyzes the catalogue of the Librarian’s Library (Biblioteca del Bibliotecario), created in 1944 by the Commission for the Protection of Popular Libraries Argentina (Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares). The bibliographical repertoire, reconstructed from the official publications of the organization, is  examined through various groupings and categories that  attempt to elucidate the function given to this library by the national governing state library institution. Thus, through a quantitative examination, complemented by in-depth examinations that enrich the description and contextualization, we present the characteristics of a bibliographical set based on a policy of the Commission, but that goes beyond popular libraries and incorporates other institutions and agents in the library field of that period. One of the conclusions suggests that the Librarian’s Library not only served as an instrument for librarian training but also as a sample of bibliographical productions and authors that the organization delimited from the national and international publishing industry for the formation of an ideal of librarian professional.

The surveyor was one of the officials involved in the management of space and urban planning in the town and municipal boundary of Madrid during the Ancien Régime. This article addresses his access to the profession from a documentary point of view, through the records preserved in the Villa de Madrid Archive, as far as the 18th century is concerned. To this end, we have identified the processes that, in one way or another, led to their appointment and the documentation that resulted from these processes; their typologies have been analysed using diplomatic criteria, considering their internal structure and documentary tradition. The process used in each case generated a series of specific documents, the composition of which was also affected by the legal business they dealt with.

The article analyzes the implementation of taxonomies in cultural heritage repositories. The research methodology includes discourse hermeneutics and case analysis. The results section explores the need for taxonomies, their description, and their advantages in repositories. Three key functions are highlighted: 1) enabling the naming and categorization of cultural heritage across peoples, regions, and countries; 2) serving as indexing languages that thematically represent resources; and 3) providing a hierarchical structure for browsing and discovering collections. It is concluded that the construction of vocabularies and the conformation of categorical structures is a continuous and challenging activity in which information professionals should have a proactive attitude and skills in order not to be mere consumers of knowledge organization systems, but developers.

Mining generates thousands of tons of tailings. Tailings are ground rock separated with chemicals from the minerals of interest during mining activity. When separated, the leftovers are deposited in tailings dams or unconfined deposits. Within the Sierra de Huautla Biosphere Reserve (REBIOSH), near the town of Huautla, mining generated five tailings deposits: three deposits confined by tailings dams (Los Molinos I and II and Las Presas) and two unconfined tailings deposits (Tlalchichilpa and Huautla). Exposure to rain and wind makes the tailings deposits prone to erosion and susceptible to landslides, a type of mass movement. The objectives of this study were to quantify water erosion, describe the susceptibility to slope sliding by using Geographic Information Systems, verify these processes by reconnaissance of the area, and know the content of heavy metals in the tailings deposits and in the flooding zones of the river that flows into the streams surrounding these tailings deposits in Huautla, Morelos. This study is divided into four methods: a) Erosion calculated using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) for four years: 1975 (2,125 mm) and 1973 (1,756 mm), years with maximum precipitation in the area; 2015 (407.7 mm), driest year; 1969 (1,131. 5 mm), year of a tailings dam break; (b) Susceptibility to slope sliding described using the Mora-Vahrson method; (c) Reconnaissance of the area using remote sensing and field walks; (d) Quantification of heavy metals in tailings deposits and in flood zones of Arroyo Grande analyzed in laboratory. The highest erosion (>200 ton/ha-1 yr-1) occurred in the tailings dams in the years with the highest precipitation. The maximum erosion (>200 ton/ha-1 yr-1) was concentrated on the steeper slopes (talus slopes) and in the area with slope close to 0 (banks) erosion was minimal (0 and 0-10 ton/ha-1 yr-1). In the Huautla deposit, erosion was high only in a central portion in that year (50-200 ton/ha-1 yr-1). In 1969, the year of a dam break at Los Molinos (1969), the dam had the highest erosion concentrated on its slope (50-200ton/ha-1/yr-1). The oldest deposit, Tlalchichilpa, showed minimal erosion in all years (0-10ton/ha-1/yr-1). Susceptibility to slope sliding was Very High on the slopes and Very Low on the banks of the three tailings dams. The Tlalchichilpa tailings deposit presented High and Very High susceptibility to slope sliding in its southern portion, and the Huautla deposit presented Medium susceptibility in almost the entire tailings deposit, varying only in a small area of its central portion. The reconnaissance of the zone by remote sensing reaffirmed the mass movement due to the breakage of the Los Molinos tailings dam in the aerial photograph (1969), an event corroborated by some residents and by the field trip. The field trips allowed to understand that a hillside landslide of the Huautla deposit is improbable given that they seem to be superficial remnants of the original deposit, no deeper than 1m on a rocky sloping hillside. While touring the tailings deposits, root exhumation and sparse vegetation were observed in the tailings dams and the Huautla deposit, and subway erosion processes by formation of tubes (tubing) and tunnels (tunneling) in the tailings dams. In addition, there were large differences in size between large tailings dams and small unconfined deposits. The tailings deposits showed concentrations of heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu, Hg and As) above the Maximum Permissible Limits (MPL) at different depths. Only Zn, Cd, Cu and As were found slightly above the MPL in the flood zones of Arroyo Grande. Erosion and susceptibility to slope sliding seem to be mainly determined by the slopes of the tailings deposits, the intense rainfall and the lack of vegetation cover in all the deposits. Field surveys verify, complement and/or modify the results obtained in the initial analyses. Heavy metals have different persistence in the tailings deposits, which determines their presence at different depths in the tailings deposits or their mobility towards flood zones in Huautla, Morelos. The joint analysis of the movement of tailings allows a more complete interpretation of these processes.

Over the last few years, the National Earth Observation Laboratory (LANOT) has transitioned to a satellite data processing and distribution system based on free software, with the aim of eliminating dependence on commercial platforms, improving geospatial accuracy, and ensuring technological sustainability in the access and management of satellite images. The methodology was based on the adoption of carefully selected free software, backed by renowned institutions and with extensive operational validation. Tools such as GDAL, CSPP, IPOPP, and AAPP were used, which allow for the comprehensive processing of data from geostationary satellites (GOES-East) and polar orbit satellites (NOAA-20, Suomi-NPP, Terra, Aqua, among others), generating products in interoperable formats such as NetCDF, HDF5, and GeoTIFF. Among the main results are the automated generation of level 1 and 2 satellite products, RGB images, nighttime compositions, vegetation indices, surface temperature, aerosol detection, and active fires. This experience, described here, leads to the conclusion that the use of free software is a robust and scalable alternative for Earth observation centers, aligned with principles of technological autonomy, inter-institutional collaboration, and open science.

Studying hydrodynamics, coastal geomorphology and beach characteristics is important for understanding the processes involved in their morphodynamic behaviour, as well as for territorial planning and managing coastal spaces. This study identified the hydrodynamic and geomorphological characteristics and particularities of the beaches on Cuba's north-eastern coast. This research is based on field studies conducted between 2018 and 2022 on 54 beaches, as well as data from meteorological, oceanographic and tide gauge stations. The author has also made observations over a period of 30 years (1993–2023). It was found that this coastline experiences the highest waves and the largest tidal range on Cuba's northern coast. The most significant geomorphological feature is the narrowness of the marine platform, and the best-represented type of coast is the low rocky terrace. Beaches of limited extension and development were predominant, consisting of medium-grained sands of biogenic origin, mostly preceded by coral reefs. Evidence of sustained erosion was found in 70% of the beaches, which is attributed to a combination of natural and human-induced factors, with natural causes predominating. Furthermore, the potential usefulness of incorporating the results of this research into territorial planning, the integrated management of coastal areas and efforts to control and manage erosion on Cuban beaches is confirmed.
