A nine-year old female patient presented with a history of trauma to the upper central incisors. She received treatment for apicoforming with calcium hydroxide for a prolonged period, who after root canal obturation presented acute inflammation of the upper lip and buccal vestibule. Treatment included antimicrobial therapy, extensive surgical debridement under general anesthesia, apicoectomy of both incisors, and direct visual obturation of the canals and apical sealing of the teeth with gutta-percha. The anatomopathologic diagnosis was acute chronic osteomyelitis of the maxilla. One and a half years later, clinical absence of inflammatory signs and adequate healing of the bone tissue were observed. It was concluded that, although reports concerning chronic osteomyelitis of the maxillary bone are rare events, this type of infection should be always present at the time of the differential diagnosis for evaluating pediatric patients with a history of dentoalveolar trauma and inflammatory processes in the maxillofacial region.

Introduction: dengue virus is considered one of the most devastating diseases worldwide with 40% of the population living in transmission areas and one of the most climate-related diseases. Objective: to determine the incidence rate of climate variability on Aedes aegypti mosquito infestation and dengue virus appearing in Guantanamo province, period time 2017-2019.Method: a retrospective, longitudinal, descriptive research was carried out, in which 9 municipalities and 10,221 suspected cases of dengue fever were selected (as universe). The variables studied were as follows: infestation in reservoirs by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes according to climatic season, arboviroses risk rate according to stratum, dengue cases, temperature and precipitation. Data were obtained from monthly meteorological records and from the Statistics Department of Centro Provincial de Higiene, Epidemiología y Microbiología. It was used the absolute and relative frequencies, mean frequency, the standard deviation and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: mean annual temperature varied by 1 °C, mean values of relative humidity and precipitation decreased and impacted all stratums. Infestation ascended with the highest dengue risk rate in the tropical savanna climate stratum, rate ratio 0.63 (95 % CI: 0.59-0.67) P=0.000. Temperature and precipitation had the strongest linear association with Aedes aegypti mosquito infestation and dengue risk rate with the linear correlation coefficient of R2=0.9 and R2=0.8. Conclusions: climatic variability has a favorable effect on Aedes aegypti infestation and dengue transmission during the wet season, with a significant correlation in all stratums.

Introduction: the world's population is increasingly aging. Care of elderly demands committed professionals and an educative work with families and community. Objective: the implementation of an educative intervention aimed for preparing caregivers of elderly in the Family Doctor's Office No. 6 of the Policlínico Universitario "Mártires del 4 de Agosto", in Guantánamo. Methods: a prospective, educative intervention-type study was conducted from September 2018 to June 2019. The total of all elderly caregivers (as universe), associated to the Medical office, were enrolled in the study and 38 of them were selected as sample intentionally according to inclusion criteria. The variables studied were: knowledge of risk factors in elderly and their prevention, orientation and control of the duties to be done, necessary means and tools for care, knowledge of first aid. The educative intervention was carried out in three different stages with their respective objectives and methods of execution. Absolute and relative frequency was used as a summary measure. Results: before applying the educative intervention, 63.1% of caregivers showed insufficient level of preparation in their duties; after intervention, the theoretical and practical deficiencies previously arose, so decreased to 31.5%. The 46.9% of caregivers (p<0.05) increased their skills, thus promoting the usefulness of the use of the educative intervention designed. Conclusions: the educative intervention made it possible the improvement on the skills of caregivers.

Introduction: technological advances experienced by phones and tablets with Android operating system have enabled the development of countless applications in the field of medicine. As far as we know, there is not reported in our health system the use of a portable device that allows the specialist to wirelessly monitor remotely the biomedical signals associated with the patient. Objective: development of an Android application (as a tool) that can be adapted to multiple wireless monitoring systems in order to capture, visualize and store biomedical signals.Method: the general architecture of the wireless communication system that integrates the tool is shown and the software design of the tool and the interaction diagram of the five activities that compose it are proposed: “Menu”, “Patients”, “Configuration”, “Scanner”, “Graph”. Results: different screens and functionalities of the application were shown, compatibles for two Cuban medical devices (and modes): Biomedical Measurement System for Vestibular Exploration (Reception) and the Wireless Electrocardiographic Monitoring System for Android devices (operates in Transmission/Reception mode). Conclusions: the application provides a simple and intuitive interface, which facilitates interaction with the user. Its qualitative evaluation through rapid tests showed excellent results in both cases.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the health profile of the population that attended an integrated health campaign in times of COVID-19.  Materials and Methods: It was a Cross-sectional, observational, descriptive, and retrospective study. The population is made up of a total of 289 patients who met the selection criteria.  Results: Of the total number of patients (289), 64.7% were female, from this group 8.3% reported having had COVID-19. COVID-19 cases were reported to be between the ages of 15 to 59 years (37%). The most frequent comorbidity was: obesity (26.6%), followed by arterial hypertension (11.8%) and diabetes mellitus (3.8%). The most frequent signs and symptoms of COVID-19 were: dyspnea (4.5%), myalgia (4.2%), cough (3.1%), and rhinorrhea (3.1%). Only 19.7% of patients reported having received the COVID-19 vaccine at the time of the study. The most frequently reported pathologies were: respiratory (26.3%), musculoskeletal (25.3%), endocrinological (12.1%), cardiovascular (11.1%), and infectious pathologies (11.1%). The associated variables were: no comorbidity (p = 0.014; CI 95 [0.208-0.853]; OR = 0.421), obesity (p = 0.010; CI 95% [1.228-5.161] OR = 2.518), and dyspnea (p = 0.000; CI 95 [4,052-22,980], OR = 9,649).  Conclusions: A predominance of female patients was found. Obesity was the most frequent comorbidity. The most frequent pathologies were those of the respiratory system. The absence of comorbidities shows a protective association for COVID-19, while obesity and dyspnea increase this association.

To understand the term genomic heterogeneity in prostate cancer, we must understand the clonal genomic evolution of cancer, as well as knowing that it is a dynamic and evolutionary phenomenon. Knowing the genome of prostate cancer not only allows us to have a vision over time of the genomic alterations that occur during its different stages, but also to learn about the mechanisms of metastasis. In addition, knowing the hereditary component of prostate cancer allows the evaluation of patients and to be able to identify if we are dealing with a family at risk.

The spider bite of the genus Loxosceles is a public health problem in regions of Latin America. In Peru, it occurs more frequently in homes in the coastal region and could have serious consequences, including death in the case of cutaneous and visceral loxoscelism (CVL). The case of a pediatric patient with a suspected spider bite is presented below. The clinical picture developed with marked edema of the face and neck, without developing respiratory distress and without evidence of systemic compromise. The slow resolution of the edema and the lack of response to the treatment of choice for angioedema allowed us to guide the diagnosis to predominantly edematous cutaneous loxoscelism (CLEP), which is an infrequent form of presentation.

Dear Editor Emerging infectious diseases that affect humans commonly come from pathogens whose hosts arewildlife species. These zoonotic disease outbreaks constitute a major challenge to human health. Infact, the current Covid-19 pandemic has evidenced that the activities human beings carry out inecosystems, as well as, the use of wildlife species, have a direct impact on society.

Background. Obesity is a problem present in almost all societies, which has led to the search for different methods to combat it. One of them is intermittent fasting (IF), characterized by periods without eating (16 to 24 hours), limited or no caloric intake, combined with normal eating windows. Target. To determine the effectiveness of intermittent fasting on biochemical and anthropometric markers in obese adults. Materials and methods. A systematic review was proposed that postulated to study blinded or open clinical trials of IA interventions, compared with a control group. The response variables were: systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides, blood glucose, fat mass, weight, waist circumference, BMI and heart rate. The search and identification of studies was masked. The risks of bias for the Cochrane collaboration were assessed. They underwent meta-analysis (random effect), with R 4.0.0. Results. Six studies were included, involving 10-48 weeks of intervention with alternate-day fasting and time-restricted feeding, reporting some statistically significant changes for different variables. Conclusion. Intermittent fasting could intervene in the reduction of cardiovascular risk due to improvement in BMI and biochemical parameters.
