The objective of this article is to conduct a comparative examination between the Brazilian literary newspaper Dom Casmurro (1937-1946) and the Chilean publication Aurora de Chile (1938-1940). Both periodicals not only had outstanding communist intellectuals such as Jorge Amado, editor-in-chief of the Brazilian newspaper between 1939-1940, and Pablo Neruda, creator and director of Aurora de Chile, but also sought to express the popular front project proposed by the Communist International in the fight against fascism. I seek here to examine how these publications crystallized some ideas of defense of culture, the role of intellectuals as militants, and the distinct strategies of communists in the face of the singularities of political experiences in Latin America. Methodologically, the publications are approached as documents of culture that expressed a collective political-cultural project.

Resumen
This article examines the journalistic language of the tabloids Las Noticias Gráficas and Última Hora in relation to the figure of Argentine President Juan Perón (1946-1955). Unlike the rest of the Chilean press, both evening papers published in Santiago displayed an articulate defense of the Argentine regime, arousing suspicions among Chilean political circles. The Chilean Congress formed a Special Investigating Commission on Peronist Activities in Chile to investigate the infiltration of Peronism in different Chilean institutions, including political parties, armed forces, trade unions, and journalistic media. The Commission elaborated a detailed report that accredited strong connections between Argentine state agencies and a group of Chilean journalists willing to publish favorable news about the Peronist regime in Argentina.

Resumen
In the early morning of November 3rd, 1974, the body of Lumi Videla was found dead in the gardens of the Italian Embassy. Around it, the press constructed different theories as to the reason for her assassination. All of them, we know today, were false. However, and in a climate of information censorship, it is worth asking ourselves how was this possible? Why do we find different versions of the same news? This article aims to show how, during the dictatorship, information was not always constructed based on a static work, but at times the media was given an 'imagined freedom'. This, in order to rethink, from this journalistic setup, how media censorship worked in the early years of the Chilean regime.

Resumen
This article searchs for inquiere in the processes that led to the growing politicization of television channels in Chile towards the end of the sixties and the beginning of the following decade. In this sense, not only the internal processes in universities and their relationship with national politics will be studied, but also the role of theoretical research linked to the mass media. It is understood here that the interrelation of the three factors (political system, generation of knowledge around the media and Chilean television system) resulted at the beginning of the seventies in a particular state of strong politicization in television, turning tv channels into political actors, where serveral interests were stressed.

Resumen
This article focuses on the analysis of El Colono del Oeste, a weekly newspaper published between 1878 and 1886 in the province of Santa Fe (Argentina). The interest is in pointing out that, as a discourse and as a sociolinguistic object, the newspaper established guidelines for political and citizen participation in a culturally and linguistically diverse community. Thus, it will be analyzed the way in which, through the use of Spanish and the marking of the linguistic norm, El Colono del Oeste configured its audiences and placed them in the public space.

Resumen
This article examines the opinion discourse on democracy published in the Ecuadorian written press between 1968 and 1979, at a time when Ecuador experienced institutional political instability. In this period there was a recovery of democracy, and the assumption of a president elected by popular vote; the coup of the same president; the replacement of him by a military government and the subsequent replacement by a triumvirate. This board began the process of legal restructuring in 1976 that culminated in the re-institutionalization of democratic life in 1979.
